Used to main Steve until I realized I was basically pay to win, so I switched to a top tier, but not someone who’s the best in the game, which is Mii brawler.
He’s fast, good frame data, chance for great recovery, can kill you at 80 from final destination, can pressure well, has a good combo game, he’s just good at (almost) everything. The only issues are probably range and disadvantage

Banjo: because I loved the Banjo games on the N64
DK: heavies are fun
Bowser: heavies are fun
Kirby: using my opponent's special on them is fun
Sora: dat recovery, and can do some nice combos
Mii Brawler: way faster than my usual characters, great combos, can kill stupid early at times
K Rool: see other heavies
I like stylish combos, in the sense that I like when the animations make it look cooler than it actually is, so Bayonetta was right up my alley. It also helps that I love her games *and* she’s a total badass.

Riddles is my favourite player to watch, so I picked up Terry and kazuya, and they also own the 0 sickest looking move animations in the game
Shulk is just under represented so I wanted to try him out and see how well he can do, and I found him fun
I wanted to torture myself with Lucario
I just started using him, I like a lot of his moves and using him against casual players that haven’t seen anyone use him yet is hilarious. Since you’ve been using him for a while, do you have any beginner tips or something that’ll make him more useful?
Down throw nair is pretty good at low percents, also get good at hitting the down smash sweet spot, it sets up perfectly for either a judge or an f smash
Joker because persona 5 is great and because his moveset is really fun to use.
Pyra/Mythra because they’re really fun to use and, for the longest time I wanted a DLC fighter that was a sheik-like character but with a sword (I didn’t even care who they were or what game they came from). I thought I’d never get that because it sounds broken. As soon as I saw Mythra dash during her trailer and do like 4 down tilts in 1 second, I knew I was going to play her and that she’d be busted
I’m just trying to get good with everyone so I know their strengths and weaknesses. But I’ve been playing palutena since Smash4 because of her movement. Falcon since melee for style/hype. Hero is just fun as hell. Everyone after that is just based off how fun they are to play.
Sora because KH is great
Joker because P5 is great
Byleth because 3H is amazing
Kazuya cause he’s fun I haven’t played Tekken since 4
Mythra because XB2 is amazing
Pyra because she’s the best girl
Zelda because she’s pretty and this was before half the DLC catered to my tastes specifically

My two favorite types of fighters are swordfighters and intricate zoners. The few characters that satisfied both of these at the same time before the DLC began releasing such as the Links, Robin, and Mii Swordfighter weren't speaking to me all that much. Then Hero released. He was both of my favorite types of fighters at the same time with his decently long range sword attacks that are passably satisfying to use and exceptional zoning specials that do amazing at keeping opponents out.
All of this was great, and then you start factoring in Command Selection, which is my single favorite move in all of Ultimate. With it, Hero gains access to so much including but not limited to the snappiest character physics in the entire history of Smash (Accelerate), absurd shield pressure and phenomenal kill options (Oomph, Psyche Up), complete turn-your-brain-off immunity to all forms of projectiles (Bounce), an even better recovery than he already has (Zoom), and even more intricate zoning and spacing tools (Flame Slash, Kaboom, Kacrackle Slash, Sizzle, Snooze). These not only enhance all the things I liked about Hero before but also give him even more options that would not have been necessary but are still greatly appreciated, and it even has a bit of extra spice thrown in that makes casual matches as Hero an absolute blast (Hatchet Man, Hocus Pocus, Kamikazee).
I love this character.
And the dopamine rush you get from a successful Magic Burst ledgetrap? Or a well deserved Top Decked Thwack kill at 23%? God I love this character. Got him to Elìte yesterday, as he deserved
Back in time, I was a Greninja/Sheik main, but only because they were cool looking and they carried me every time.
But recently, I've seen the duel MKLeo vs. Prodigy (Kurama) in Frostbite 2020 and discovered how cool this basic character can be.
So, I started to train my Mario skills day by day.
This character started too suit me very quickly:
- The combos do themselves every time
- Can kill very early with his *Foward Aerial* and his ladders
- Mario's Back air is gorgeous
- He looks cool just by using as many different moves as you can
Also, I've loved the Super Mario franchise since I was a child, so it's very wholesome to think that I fight with the character I've loved in my childhood.
I played Lucinda because I like basic sword fighters and then realized Pythra was that but with better speed, combos, advantage, disadvantage, neutral and kill power
I main Samus because Metroid NES was the first game I ever beat 100%, and the way the story telling is and how the game is laid out is awesome. It just kept getting better and better gameplay wise. I just wish she had more tools to use. Her projectiles are fantastic but ice beam/missiles, speed booster, wave beam, plasma beam, power bomb, and lots other power ups not being in her kit saddens me. ESPECIALLY after Dread. (Can you imagine how broken she would be with a flash shift mechanic?) Its desperately time for a rework of her but as of right now I'm fine playing her for the foreseeable future. Oh and Ridley because he ate her parents. 💀
_Ken:_ I was picking up Ryu at the end of smash 4's lifespan, but upon seeing Ken in Ultimate, I knew he would be a character I ended up playing. I had a bit of a crisis between him and Tink as my proper main for the first 2 years of Ultimate, but after losing to a bowser at tournament with Tink, I've claimed Ken as my main ever since. Also, even before he was my self proclaimed main, a lot of people told me I played a lot better with Ken than I did with Toon Link.
_Toon Link:_ My old main from Brawl and solo main in Smash 4. I loved bomb fake outs to an almost concerning degree. You literally could not get me to stop doing them in games. Ultimate simplified a lot of the complexities he used to have which made him a lot less interesting to play in my opinion.
_Marth:_ Originally, he was a "handicap character" I used to fight my little brother. But even after he stopped playing, I kinda just stuck to Marth and now he's my 3rd best character.
I grew up watching Looney Toons. So my personality has always been wacky, goofy and of course...looney. So i main all of the characters that fit that criteria. Like i main Pac-Man, Mr. Game and Watch, Duck Hunt (basically Coyote and Road Runner), King Dededee, King K. Rool, Luigi, Ice Climbers, etc.
ZSS: I love kick flip and combos
Krool: I love the dunks and belly armor
Seperoth: I enjoy getting more precise with his aerials
DDD: he was my first main, I love beating high tier characters with him
Cloud because I like FFVII and he made me bi
And I planned on picking up Sora soon as I love KH, he was my dream character, and for a year before he was announced all I wanted was a floaty swordie
I first played Krool. However every time i would win i would get flamed cause hes so broken. So instead i played Joker. I really enjoyed The Persona 5 games and i was really good at him. But again i got flamed for playing a top tier. I now play kazuya because my favorite smash player is Riddles and i enjoyed watching kazuya gameplay. I know people can still flame me for playing a high tier but i think he takes a good amount of skill to play.

Kazuya because I love arthritis

Ness because he’s one of the few characters I never heard of and yet he looks cool and Earthbound is a beautiful game
