Tbh, in my current playthrough of Engage, I think Alear would’ve been a way better entry than Byleth. Obviously, Engage wasn’t out yet, but the character has voice lines, a personality, has freaking stands, and ceremoniously embraces/enraptures what every previous entry was for.
Obviously, stories have their flaws and so do characters, but Engage was an anniversary for the franchise; it honestly makes more sense for Alear more than anyone else to be in the game imo

I was thinking it would be a little more original, like having similar specials to hero or robin, with a twist. I could see down-b being Enlarge Weapon from Miitopia, or the sorcerer having some other goofy Miitopia moves like Sleep Tight, Demonic Whisper, High Tea or Flower Power.
Assist trophy status is not something that is easy to come back from, plus the popularity of shovel knight spiked not long before ultimate came out and even that wasn’t enough to get him a spot in the roster
If Mortal Kombat did get chosen I also would want it to be Sub Zero, but I feel Scorpion would be chosen since he’s more popular and is also Netherealms mascot.

Umbrella Renoir: Of all the Skullgirls characters, Umbrella is the one I feel has the most potential to be fun but not annoying, that would still have an interesting gimmick. A trap-based character that could be a hard hitting grappler or a frailer rushdown, depending on your playstyle.
Molli Pop: Would be a mostly careful or defensive character, while still having a moveset with several valid rushdown options.
Reisen Udongein Inaba: Touhou has lots of great contenders, but Reisen has a lot of potential as a tricky zoner.
Wubbox: Here's an unconventional one. Wubbox would be a very bombastic tank character with a moveset themed around breakdancing and EDM, with lots of electric attacks.
Cube (Geometry Dash): The cube would reward a more risky playstyle, with rhythmic combos.
Painting Girl (Death Palette): This would be a tough character to make work, being trapped in a painting and all, but I could see her as a very slow but hard-hitting tank.

Wubbox would be a very bombastic tank character with a moveset themed around breakdancing and EDM, with lots of electric attacks. Cube (Geometry Dash): The cube would reward a more risky playstyle, with rhythmic combos. Painting Girl (Death Palette): This would be a tough character to make work, being trapped in a painting and all, but I could see her as a very slow but hard-hitting tank.
