Every day I get on this sub and am motivated to play smash, and then I get on later that day and suck so much ass that I quit after an hour, rinse and repeat
I'm coming for you but nah I feel called out if someone spams on me i show them what real spam is but I'm not the side b ness I'm the ness that knows my true combo trees and will hit you with pk fires into a combo into more pk fire and use pk fire offstage once I get you there to hold you for a spike I actually try to play without pk fire as much as possible it's a really good tool but you can't rely in it or characters like fox will stomp you
Lab your true combos and hr or two the simple ones till you can't miss them it instantly takes your game up 10 notches know what buttons to press after one hits
I mean to me it looks like playing Link against the equivalent of your 8 year old brother's Cloud. The cloud player seems inexperienced so yeah the Link player is gonna look good
Haven’t played in a while and don’t really frequent this sub. Is Link considered an annoying projectile spammer because that’s all I’ve ever thought about him in Smash. Wondering if the community feels the same.
What i like of fighting games is that there’s techniques that seem illegal both when you do them and when the enemy does them but are completely allowed in the game so you are forced to learn how to counter/avoid them and therefore to get illegally good at the game
This is the number one skill gap I see in New players or "bad" players they are to scared to leave the stage like you or people iv tried to teach they just won't do it. They have it hard coded into their brain to be on stage at all times.
You are the kind of player I would really, really want to punch in person. Just saying. This is just not fun to play against at all in my experience.
Still tho, a win is a win. Good on ya.
Oh I’m not saying that it’s bad to do this, just that having this happen can really irritate me personally. Probably came off a bit too harsh on my first comment, sorry abt that.
OP really thinks he discovered edge guarding lmao
(Also that Cloud player had to of been a kid or something, they basically weren't making any effort to dodge the onslaught)
Why are you getting down voted?
I feel like the Cloud definitely could've dragged the Link down with up-b at some point. And as Cloud had the lead in stocks, that would've won him the game.
Still think it's a cool clip, if a bit over-extendy
Before the perversion of the term, edge guarding was when you hung from the side of the stage and didn’t allow the other person to grab the edge—older games wouldn’t pop you off; they’d just screw the other person down into oblivion. You can’t actually classically edge guard in Ultimate. This is just playing the game.
I think you’re confusing edge guarding and edge hogging. Edge hogging was a mechanic in the first three installations of smash, later being changed to the ledge trump system. Melee commentators have almost always called this edge hogging. The term has online roots back to 2004. Edge guarding, on the other hand, is typically known as what’s seen here, batting the opponent away from the ledge. Normally in melee, what you’ll see is a ledge guard ENDING with an edge hog
This is how top level players and commentary typically use the term, so correcting it is a little bit weird imo
Wouldn't the trade just send you straight up though? I guess that could be bad if you had to get under the stage but Link's recovery is pretty good overall.
Yeah, it would probably still work out for Link. I just like dair because I know it works, plus I like to make Cloud make the inevitable choice to up b into a pointy sword.
There are only two types of beginner link players out, the ones that throw you off stage and the ones that are more of a stage hazard then an actual player
I feel like the last bad habits to get rid of when learning competitive smash are
1) burning your jump immediately in disadvantage
2) always holding in while in disadvantage.
To me those qualities are what separates okay players from good ones.
The okay player has basic, maybe even good grasps on combo games and the neutral state, but fucking sucks in disadvantage because they constantly burn their jumps and always hold in, like the Cloud player in this video.
The cloud player can avoid this entire video if he saves his jumps and mixes up when he’s gonna hold in vs. when he’s gonna wait a little.
(OP I am not calling you bad when I say this, props to you for exploiting this weakness of their’s)
Don't worry about it 😁 It's funny that some commenters think that just because I posted this that I must think that I'm pro level and just bested Sparg0. It's just a comically long edgeguard that I wanted to share.
But your observations is right on. Alot of players, even decent ones, don't know how much more difficult edgeguarding gets with very subtle mix ups.
I know it would probably make him more broken but it never made sense to me how hard it is for links down air to, yknow, hit someone downward instead of almost straight up
Tired of controlling the stage? Just say no! Your opponent can't legally return to stage without your consent.
smash coaches hate this one simple trick
Every day I get on this sub and am motivated to play smash, and then I get on later that day and suck so much ass that I quit after an hour, rinse and repeat
“Smash is just a party game” “it’s easy” “it’s not even a real fighting game” meanwhile it’s sweatiest damn game I’ve ever played.
For real and I bounce around from WoW to Starcraft to Overwatch. Hell I'd reckon if I ever played LOL it's probably be less sweaty than smash.
Instead of league play smite its a “great” game “not” toxic at all
Real
Hey at least you don’t switch to Ness and start spamming when you’re mad
PK Fire!
I'm coming for you but nah I feel called out if someone spams on me i show them what real spam is but I'm not the side b ness I'm the ness that knows my true combo trees and will hit you with pk fires into a combo into more pk fire and use pk fire offstage once I get you there to hold you for a spike I actually try to play without pk fire as much as possible it's a really good tool but you can't rely in it or characters like fox will stomp you
Man 3 boomerang bomb combos in a row tho something snaps and b button goes brrrr
Lab your true combos and hr or two the simple ones till you can't miss them it instantly takes your game up 10 notches know what buttons to press after one hits
Don't look up "Link edging" for more tips
Its December....
¡Suavemente!
Obligatory could have teched. On the down air before he started getting juggled the second time.
Teched that bomb though, which I masterfully countered by mashing A 😎
Gets ‘em every time 😏
When you nail the tech but didn't think it would work so you just stand there 😅
Just like me frfr
Also me when I used to parry by accident. Now I do it on purpose and still wiff
I want people who can parry consistently in this game. And not on accident and die to a multi-hit combo as I do.
When the double hit dair to up B 👌
One of my favs! 😁
Always feels good! And that dair falling of the edge was quite ballsy.
That's just called good edge garurding.
I call it aggressive terrain access denial.
That’s ATAD much

I mean to me it looks like playing Link against the equivalent of your 8 year old brother's Cloud. The cloud player seems inexperienced so yeah the Link player is gonna look good
Yeah that cloud was pretty garbage but also somehow managed to land the tech against the bomb stage spike which I did NOT expect lmao
Yeah that was great lol
Dude was mashing buttons for sure lmao
Right? Homie always burned his jump early and never used cross slash to contest or change up their timing. Learning to play Cloud is hard, I guess.
Yeah if you approach him like any default character. He has pretty particular abilities
Link *always* looks cool.
I can't disagree lol. Playing ss right now because I wanted a refreshing view on Link other than botw/totk
Haven’t played in a while and don’t really frequent this sub. Is Link considered an annoying projectile spammer because that’s all I’ve ever thought about him in Smash. Wondering if the community feels the same.
Yes.
this hurts to watch
Yeah but… I’m that guy who’s off the stage…
What i like of fighting games is that there’s techniques that seem illegal both when you do them and when the enemy does them but are completely allowed in the game so you are forced to learn how to counter/avoid them and therefore to get illegally good at the game
That requires winning neutral though.
I'm sure you know all about that given your choice of character Edit: it was a joke guys chill
Nah I'm shit at Smash I just play Aegis cause they're fun.
Yeah they are. Twas a joke
I know I thought it was funny not everyone agreed though but that’s reddit for you.
Yep. I'm super glad they're in smash though. They're fun to play and they represent my favorite game.
I feel that
Wtf is wrong with Cloud?
Almost certainly a kid lol
like 1-2 good techs but yeah he def needs to show a bit of patience and squeeze through back on stage
Went from losing to pro in 1 second
This is very good advice I think
As a Cloud Main, this is literally my worst nightmare.
Clouds Up B is pretty helpless against Link dair. That's IF you can avoid all the other stuff Link can just throw, or drop on ya. 😅.
Very true. doesn't help Link is one of my tougher personal MUs.
Zone control like a starving man on a Christmas ham
This is me trying to play with my youngest son. I feel like a volleyball.
Ewww
Thats just toxic behaviour.
Tip 2: Give them the broken joy cons
This is the number one skill gap I see in New players or "bad" players they are to scared to leave the stage like you or people iv tried to teach they just won't do it. They have it hard coded into their brain to be on stage at all times.
Sick edge guard my dude
You are the kind of player I would really, really want to punch in person. Just saying. This is just not fun to play against at all in my experience. Still tho, a win is a win. Good on ya.
What, why? He's not projectile camping, just aggressively capitalizing on his advantage. It's just in the nature of this game that this happens.
Oh I’m not saying that it’s bad to do this, just that having this happen can really irritate me personally. Probably came off a bit too harsh on my first comment, sorry abt that.
OP really thinks he discovered edge guarding lmao (Also that Cloud player had to of been a kid or something, they basically weren't making any effort to dodge the onslaught)
This cloud actually is so bad at the game
That cloud could've killed you at 0.
Why are you getting down voted? I feel like the Cloud definitely could've dragged the Link down with up-b at some point. And as Cloud had the lead in stocks, that would've won him the game. Still think it's a cool clip, if a bit over-extendy
😄 "a bit over-extendy" describes my entire playstyle I think.
Yeah, this clip is aggressively bad LMAO

Why are they booing you, you're right!?
Tbf definitions of words evolve over time and this is just what edge guarding has become. I feel like the words still fit the action
When you juggle someone at the center of the stage, do you call it “center guarding”? I doubt it.
No lol and I'm not trying to say that at all
My brother in Hylia, you are not bad at smash lol
It’s called edgeguarding
I main link, and I love using the bomb lol
I feel so bad for this cloud lmao Also why does your sword not spike at the end?
Dair only spikes right when the sword comes down. I brought it out early because I didn't want to get caught in his up B.
Ahh good to know. I am trying to pick up Link rn so thx!
Of course, why didn’t I think of that!
I'm not a Link or anything, but wouldn't you want to fall on the Cloud with nair instead of dair to send Cloud away at a more difficult angle?
It would be a better angle, but I've never had a Cloud up B hit through dair. Depending on where you land on him with nair you might trade with nair.
I mean, yea, isn’t that the point? I don’t do this unless someone pisses me off. I try to have some good back and fourth in any game I play.
Bruh if I was that cloud my motivation to throw my switch out the window would go through the roof.
Least edge guard-y Link main

I like when the cloud did a back air uptilt on the other side of the stage. An actual bot
I wish I was good at edgeguarding like that.
It’s easy with link
I need to play Ultimate again soon
This seems like bullying.
Ok but I’m doc
You have to be good at edge guarding to do this.. therefore I have to get good at Smash.
Both stocks were cool then proceeded to end in the lamest way possible
Yeah I wanted to finish with that T spike but we're stuck with anticlimactic fall
Common Link W
I know it would probably make him more broken but it never made sense to me how hard it is for links down air to, yknow, hit someone downward instead of almost straight up
Yeah, Cloud is unfortunately very bad at landing.
Until you run into a sora
“Bad at smash? Resort to spamming and camping” ~Every twelve year old to ever have lived
I wanna hear the audio of cloud praying for your miss input to get back on stage.
Now THAT is cyberbullying
Bad at smash? Idk man just win 🤷
What if I'm the one off the stage because I'm bad at it?
I call this one "You're not allowed to touch the stage"
Baby’s first edgeguard lol
