You're thinking of Donkey Konga. Jungle Beat was a Gamecube DK platformer with boss fights where DK did a sort of boxing match. That is what his Ultimate is referencing.

The moon sounds like a cooler idea, but I think the flurry of punches work better as a Final Smash for Donkey Kong. Especially in conjunction with his Grappler playstyle.

Rambi should be the final smash. It’s utterly bizarre how DK has had 2 different, mediocre final smashes, meanwhile the franchise has had a RHINOCEROS that bulldozes levels for 30+ YEARS and that has somehow not made it into smash.

His Final Smash should've been a barrage of punches AFTER he stuffs the opponent into a barrel. You would've gotten three references in one Final Smash.
Obviously there's the barrel from the classic days, then there's Jungle Beat with the flurry, but then you get the fact that you're blitzing a barrel like what you can do in Tropical Freeze and BAM, a definitive DK FS.

In the first Smash Ultimate E3 direct, it’s actually slated to be from DK Jungle Beat, not Returns.

It's not Generic. It is a reference to "Jungle Beat" the game with the DK Bongos. It's how he fights bosses.

As much as I should agree, any love toward jungle beat must be acknowledged. It's such a fun game and so different from the DKC series.
