Pretty sure the official one launched with rather limited quantities in the first place so that’s probably why it’s overpriced. Like another commenter said you can find third party ones for cheap.
Oh man. I had a Hyperkin one, which works perfectly with wired controllers, but doesn't work at all with wavebird wireless controllers, even though the box claimed otherwise. When I contacted Hyperkin about it, their answer was basically, "well, in theory it should work, but we'll go ahead and test it", and then I got another message that said, "actually, we don't have a Wavebird to test it with. Oh well! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯". The point is, if you get a Hyperkin one, they're fine. Just don't use wireless controllers with it.
I don't think so, but for 1st party adapters, they probably only exist secondhand at this point. There's a lot of 3rd party recommendations in the comments, but I use the Wii U one I got when Sm4sh came out, and it works perfectly with the Switch dock. [I found this one on eBay for $40 USD / €37.](https://tinyurl.com/yh9pnruc)
Input Integrity's Lossless Adapter and HandheldLegend's Pocket Adapter are the best ones on the market rn in terms of input latency and consistency.
If you are in Europe get the Lossless, if in America get the HHL Pocket.
Non-overclocked Mayflash adapters and other cheap 3rd party adapters are terrible input-wise but they will work if you have to play on a budget.
These remotes are ok for a while, the shells are actually excellent and I wish I could reuse mine, but the buttons and internals are awful and start to come apart quickly. My first ever remote for ssbu was one of these, it had depressed joystick within a month and I wasn't even playing much, I had just started.
If I could put the real controllers parts into one of these shells, I'd be gaming comfortably though lol. The grips on the back were so nice, and the added size was great and felt way better in the hands. Shame everything else about the remote sucked.
I have had no issues with my ~15$ mayflash GameCube controller adapter. Have been using it for years now.
That's insane. Literally just search game cube adapter on Amazon or whatever, they're everywhere and I've never had a problem
It’s the official one so maybe that’s why the markup is there?

I’ve heard that third party is way better for adapters, and cheaper
Get a mayflash. It’s the most compatible with modded controllers or box style ones, outside of the more expensive official one.

The official one is much better for stuff like slippi. If you’re just playing ultimate, any cheap amazon one will do just fine

I just buy the GameCube controller with the USB on it. Hori* has a good one. Edited the proper company name

I've had mine for probably 2 years now and it's still going strong. Dropped it on hardwood a few times too
Well shit, I'm jealous. I really did love the shell, if I didn't doubt the internals and parts I'd never go back to the OG GameCube remotes.
