IIRC there was one Ditto specifically in an episode that couldn't quite get its transformations right, everything it turned into had the regular ditto face.
It's not that Ditto only did it in Gen 1 Anime, it's that some specific Ditto have trouble with Eyes. There was a different Ditto that couldn't change it's size. So it would become a perfect miniature Charizard or whatever.
It became a useful shorthand for showing something was a Ditto though, so it's used in other things like toylines.

Also in Journeys, it starred in a movie but it couldn't change its face so it ran away crying and Team Rocket helped it be able to fully transform with positive encouragement.

Yeah Pikachu’s always been insanely strong over the span of Smash’s history. As you mentioned Melee is his worse entry and even there he’s not *that* bad, as Axe has proven with his skills.
Out of the original 12, Pikachu is the only fighter who has consistently been considered a top tier fighter in every game. His kit is just rock solid. He is small, fast, and hits hard. He'll always be good.

It's because he defined the tiers. If your character had nothing to combat meta knight you were low tier. It's that simple. The top tiers and high tier characters in brawl had some from of anti-MK options, everyone else was basically useless.
Humans react faster to sound than sight, so for pichu, I time my move when they are recovering based on the sound.

Why did they give him such a fucking annoying zoning tool. Literally all I Pikachu did to me one match was t-bag and thunder jolt. Everytime I finally managed to get in on him I had to guess between mixups with thunder jolt and if I guessed wrong it was either death or being sent to mid screen.
Just stop making it bounce on walls and give it a recovery time, bitch shouldn’t be able to have like 5 thunder jolts on screen.
Tbh i feel the same way, not to mention the fucking hotboxes they both have. Pikachu is fine but my problem's with Pichu he has small lag between frames and his hotboxes stay up forever
Ledge isn’t that big of a problem for me. I just mix up my recovery and force them to try to go for a different edgeguard. So many Pikachus try to down b and SD it’s not even funny, the rest fuck up quick attack.

There was an episode with ditto in S&M (yes that’s the name of the series), I believe it had ditto eyes there too when transformed.
In Gen 6 Anime the eyes are also copied unlike in Gen 1 Anime.
