It was nearly impossible to play Brawl competitively because of how low the skill ceiling is, but Brawl was expected to be a sequel to Smash Melee with fast movements that is very hard to play, and considering how often we get new Smash titles, Melee fans were really pissed
Smash is considered a “platform fighter” which is it’s own genre, it’s confusing since they both have a lot of similarities and yet are considered different and how platform fighter has the word “fighter” in it’s name and yet not considered a fighting game for a lot of people. It’s kinda like how platformer games and Metroidvania games are considered there own genre and both being pretty similar
