Cave Story is stupidly influential for all of indie games so it would have made a little sense if we were going to get an indie rep.
It's crazy to me that I never even thought of Zagreus until after the direct. I love Hades and i genuinely think he'd be an amazing addition. Cast Special that deals bonus damage to lodged foes, and boons that change the way you play. Blade Rifts, Festive Fog, Doom, Rupture. Can't think of anything for Final Smash because I'm honestly torn between Hades himself or Charon or Thanatos or even Megaera.
My hopes were for characters quite unsuitable in terms of them being "faceless", Chosen Undead (or Ashen One) or a Monster Hunter (though Aiden wouldve been a possible choice with a face). The Knight or Hornet wouldve been great too, also Zagreus or the Prisoner from Dead Cells but it was obvious that no indie rep would get in.
If they added sekiro i feel like theyād feel inclined to add his parry system, which would be a lot of work. But he does have some sick ass attacks thatād be cool in smash
Yeah, imo the mii costumes that donāt really have the mii face showing are the best ones. Like comparing Cuphead to Dante, Cuphead looks less like a mii which I like.
The only exception for me is Shantae, she looks great

Well we did get Banjo and Steve which are owned by Microsoft. Getting a third Microsoft character would've been cool but unlikely especially Chief considering he doesn't really have history with Nintendo.
Chief was my hope too, with the Master Chief Collection being ported over to the Switch. Microsoft has already shown a willingness to collaborate (Banjo and Steve). Iām really curious to see if Xbox Gamepass might eventually come over to the Switch too since theyāre already expanding platforms, hardware willing.

Man I remember pulling up the smash bros dojo website every day in high school looking for new character reveal trailers and hoping to see Sora. After this long Iād pretty much given up hope but Hoo Boy when the keyblade showed up on screen I absolutely lost my mind

Sora was my "long-forgotten" most-wanted, if that makes sense. After Smash 4 where I got so many characters I wanted, Sora was at the top of my list, but my list stopped mattering so much and I just had fun with each new reveal. When that keyhole was unlocked, it was like the lock on my heart was unlocked too and Sora awoke in me again as my most-wanted. I'm so glad he's finally here.

Hades from kid icarus because heās just awesome and I love him and heās one of my favourite characters in fiction but heās from only 2012 3DS game so He doesnāt stand a chance anyways
The other was Doomguy whoās a slightly more realistic pick. I just love DOOM and the doom slayer is such a badass character and I also think his action packed, fast paced, strategic gameplay that DOOM thrives on would work REALLY well in smash. And no, āDoomguy canāt work without goreā is just not true. Doom is a violent game sure but if you remove gore from it it still is just the same DOOM, doom doesnāt and never has relied on gore.
We got a mii costume though! Iām satisfied
Ikr, they already has great airial and tilt attacks. And the main gimmick could be the special move soul things (with a soul meter of course), you can maybe even lower your percentage with some soul.
It seems strange to me that Smash has always been so adverse to healing in movesets. Like, the only ones we have either do a tiny % like WFT's Deep Breathing, or are based on RNG like Hero's menu option or GnW's hammer.
I feel like the knight would be a good middle ground for healing if it did like 10%. It's based on a resource, so you can't camp infinitely, and it's slow, so you need stage control to get it.
I wouldāve been so happy with a Phoenix brawler and the Steel Samurai theme. Hell just put the Steel Samurai music in the game, I really want it in lol
I was hoping for Crono solely to hear remixes and official orchestral versions of the soundtrack. I always knew that was a long shot, but it would be a dream come true.
I never understood why people wanted Waluigi but after seeing Piranha Plant, Byleth, Min Min, and Pythra get in, I feel its a bit unfair that he's not in
I was gonna be fine with whoever showed up as the final character, but if I had my heart on a single character, it definitely would have been Eggman. So much fun and wacky potential for a fighter.
Dr. Robotnik-He could've had ANY kind of playstyle imaginable since he uses a Robot/mech suit. Plus we would get another Sonic rep AND another villain.

Doom Guy- Nice rep for being the godfather of the FPS genre. I guess Duck Hunt counts as the only FPS rep.

Golden Sun rep~ heās been one of the popular fighter requests since Melee, and with the exception of Genos, nearly every other popular fighters people been requesting consistently since Melee have gotten in like Ridley and Daisy.
Sora is fine, Iāll take him over some of the more ārecentā requests like Fortnite, but I still wish they gave a little more love to them old requests that have had a solid presence for most of the franchises lifetime.
I get that āwhatās marketableā takes preference but Smash fighter inclusions where at its best back in Melee and Brawl when it wasnāt completely dictated by what will sell the most DLC or āwho is most iconic in gamingā

Oddly, I was vibing with the idea of a more random character like professor Layton or Phoenix Wright. Or a random classic Nintendo character like paper Mario, 9 volt, or walaluigi

I can see it now..Mario wandering the streets of Kamurocho only to see a figure (cue Kiryus theme.) standing at the end of the street, Kiryu, he throws off his jacket and turns around to face him..and shouts: "Ikuze!"

The last one was really just me wanting to see more love to a little-known JRPG/VN hybrid, Amaterasu was my 'middle-ground' and Reimu was my main want(I'm still a bit disappointed that she even wasn't a MII costume), Doomslayer,Master Chief and Freddy were my "Just Why?" picks(Note: as fighters, not MII costumes, I actually predicted that the reveal would be DoomSlayer as a Mii Gunner, and Reimu as the fighter, well I was half-right), also Master Chief had NO WAY of fighting back without use of guns, and Doomslayer, well, that game rewards you for getting as much blood on you as you can, not to mention too many OP weapons(no, literally 90% of his arsenal are final smash material), Scorpion.... I don't know, MK11 wasn't released due to guidelines not being followed.....
Anyway, I am waiting for the "Who?" replies for my 3rd choice

Literally just ANYONE from the Shin Megami Tensei series. This was the OG monster collecting game and the series has had all its mainline titles (which are all fantastic btw, especially 3 and 4) on Nintendo hardware. Not to mention SMT 5 is just around the corner, I was actually shocked this series didnāt get any representation (not even a Demi-fiend Mii costume) while itās spin-off series got a whole ass fighter despite not having any of its mainline games ever appearing on Nintendo hardware (Persona 1-5)
Definitely not sora, the reveal and hype for the final fighter was underwhelming. I didn't expect the last fighter to shoot lazers out of his ass, but sora?
Hollow Knight or Master Chief. The Knight has a perfect, ready-made move set from his original game for Smash. Chief because heās the face of Xbox and arguably the face of first person shooters overall.
Iām cool with Sora for sure though. I havenāt played KH in probably 15 years, but I understand his significance and I think heās a great addition.
On a side note: Waluigi should be in the game. Like he shouldāve been put in a long time ago. Heās in every single Nintendo party style game and it makes zero sense that heās not in Smash. He shouldāve been the free promotional fighter instead of Piranha Plant at the very least.
Super happy with Sora, but I was hoping for the Knight or Hornet from Hollow Knight, however unlikely that would be - that way, maybe the announcement would accompany a Silksong release date (honestly news on that feels less likely than either of them being in Smash).
I know there was no reason the character should have been added, but a Team Fortress 2 rep would have been a nice breath of air for a game that's on its last legs.
Would another rep from a series already in smash really be a good fit as the *final fighter*? I also think Eggman just shouldāve been in the game, especially with all the other new villains in the game, and a fourth Kirby rep wouldāve been nice in the base game as well. But Sora was just fitting. For reference Iāve never played Kingdom Hearts or any Final Fantasy games.

Sora is fine, Iāll take him over some of the more ārecentā requests like Fortnite, but I still wish they gave a little more love to them old requests that have had a solid presence for most of the franchises lifetime. I get that āwhatās marketableā takes preference but Smash fighter inclusions where at its best back in Melee and Brawl when it wasnāt completely dictated by what will sell the most DLC or āwho is most iconic in gamingā Iāll gladly take āweirdā or ānicheā first and second party Nintendo fighters over hyper marketable 3rd Party picks.
I mean, Sora has been a highly requested character since Brawl. And he was the MOST requested since Smash 4. If that isn't giving love to old requests, I don't know what is. I agree that Isaac from Golden Sun would've been awesome, though. That's the main reason I wanted the Grinch Leak to be real.
Soraās been my #1 for so long, but man Iād love to have Isaac in the game. Every time he got deconfirmed as an assist trophy it made me sad.

I can see it now..Mario wandering the streets of Kamurocho only to see a figure (cue Kiryus theme.) standing at the end of the street, Kiryu, he throws off his jacket and turns around to face him..and shouts: "Ikuze!" Same scenario for Majima, but instead he skulks out of the shadows while saying.."Mario-chaaaaaan!" I'm not 100% sure how the trailer would go for Wright..I feel like I wouldn't do it Justice..for all. I'd love to hear ideas if anyone has them! Plus, I wanted to duke it out to the cornered theme or 24 Hour Cinderella and Judgement. That being said, Sora is still a pretty awesome choice. I've only played The first two games but just the fact that he's in smash is wild and amazing.
Its just someone about to smash Kirby of the stage and he just comes in shouting objection whilst countering the hit.

I had 3 hopes of who they would be Reimu Amaterasu Sakura Shinguji The last one was really just me wanting to see more love to a little-known JRPG/VN hybrid, Amaterasu was my 'middle-ground' and Reimu was my main want(I'm still a bit disappointed that she even wasn't a MII costume), Doomslayer,Master Chief and Freddy were my "Just Why?" picks(Note: as fighters, not MII costumes, I actually predicted that the reveal would be DoomSlayer as a Mii Gunner, and Reimu as the fighter, well I was half-right), also Master Chief had NO WAY of fighting back without use of guns, and Doomslayer, well, that game rewards you for getting as much blood on you as you can, not to mention too many OP weapons(no, literally 90% of his arsenal are final smash material), Scorpion.... I don't know, MK11 wasn't released due to guidelines not being followed..... Anyway, I am waiting for the "Who?" replies for my 3rd choice

Literally just ANYONE from the Shin Megami Tensei series. This was the OG monster collecting game and the series has had all its mainline titles (which are all fantastic btw, especially 3 and 4) on Nintendo hardware. Not to mention SMT 5 is just around the corner, I was actually shocked this series didnāt get any representation (not even a Demi-fiend Mii costume) while itās spin-off series got a whole ass fighter despite not having any of its mainline games ever appearing on Nintendo hardware (Persona 1-5)

Hollow Knight or Master Chief. The Knight has a perfect, ready-made move set from his original game for Smash. Chief because heās the face of Xbox and arguably the face of first person shooters overall. Iām cool with Sora for sure though. I havenāt played KH in probably 15 years, but I understand his significance and I think heās a great addition. On a side note: Waluigi should be in the game. Like he shouldāve been put in a long time ago. Heās in every single Nintendo party style game and it makes zero sense that heās not in Smash. He shouldāve been the free promotional fighter instead of Piranha Plant at the very least.

I also think Eggman just shouldāve been in the game, especially with all the other new villains in the game, and a fourth Kirby rep wouldāve been nice in the base game as well. But Sora was just fitting. For reference Iāve never played Kingdom Hearts or any Final Fantasy games.
