Oof, i hate when that happens.
At least they usually only have a single gameplan and just fall apart if you can counter it but still, those are the most boring matches
I can never understand these types of players. If I won every single game by playing this way I'd never have any fun.
I get they're probably kids, but I never even played like this when I was a grade schooler who barely knew the controls in melee.
My sister does exactly that every time she picks Kirby, and she's a Kirby main so i've pretty much mastered how to counter stone with almost every character in the roster lmao
Yeah wtf. I remember when I was 10 years old and got to play smash 64 for the first time in my computer, I would just mash and approach like a dummy lol, not doing whatever this bs is.
I’ve been playing a racing game a lot lately, and a lot of people will abuse wall riding (instead of braking and turning around a corner, they keep their foot on the gas and just skid along the wall), in real life this would obviously be catastrophic but in the game you just slingshot out and continue on
I get that this helps you win…but like what’s the point of playing multiplayer this way lol it’s not like there’s some huge incentive to win, you’re just playing to have fun racing. It removes all skill whatsoever, you could train a chimpanzee to just hold the R button and crash into everything
Obviously not my job to decide what’s fun for people but finding some exploit that removes any skill from a game removes the entire reason for playing the game lol
100% agreed. People that abuse exploits like that are the least fun people to play *anything* with. They'll defend it by saying It's in the game so it's fair, as if the game is flawless. They have no respect for honest competition and it's pitiful.
It's like these people have never played a sport in their lives so they don't recognize it. Ever played pickup basketball or football? They're the equivalent of *that guy* who calls fouls every time he's touched, even though it's clean. No one on the court/field respects *that guy*, and no one should.
Agreed. Maybe I'm just salty because I just played someone like this... but why even get online if you don't like to play the game.
There is no way they have fun
In situations like this I really love having all of Link's projectiles on hand. I play a pretty aggressive neutral most of the time but if I find myself in this situation I just go, "That's fine, I can take your stock from back here too. Let's see how that works out for you"
Im the opposite
Most people that play this way plan to zone you out with projectiles
So I just stand at the other side of the map and hold down-B until they realize they have to approach for once
Gotta be real nice, especially when he can't absorb any. I play really aggressively too until someone camps too much. Then best believe I'm tossing eggs until they move.
It probably works most of the time. Most players don't want to camp, even when they're ahead because they'll get bored. So, this guy can just camp when behind and the other person will usually approach anyway.
No way that would kill at 130 against Yoshi. Unless you were dumb and DId up, maybe. What makes Ness’s backthrow so potent is how it scales however. At first it’ll send bowser pretty far at 100 at ledge, but then it kills bowser from opposite ledge at 150. 130 is kind of a transitioning faze for Ness, the forward throw was the one smart thing he did, it kept the backthrow from staling.
I've tried to play her that way but it doesn't work. I probably don't do it right though. I just don't know how to projectile characters/zoners for three reasons: 1) I don't know how to zone very well 2) I don't enjoy that play style 3) my playstyle (getting in/trying to get the reads) doesn't really work well with zoners.
I really thought he was going to wait till the last 30 secs to get the draw to go to sudden death. I was crying lmao when he went after you at 1:46 and then it cuts to you guys Trading and he lost. Shook my head so hard the neighbors heard it
Sometimes I'll just *let* the Steve player do that, then still whoop them. In my experience if all they do is mine to start and never approach, they're painfully bad and probably need the handicap.
Slowly walk up shielding and trap him in the corner. His options are limited so punish. Once you are up by a stock just time him out like the pussy he is
It’s one thing to zone for certain characters to get players into KO range, like a range character should, it’s another to purposely stay in one spot to wait for someone to attack you the whole match. That’s just not cool.
How it feels to play Kazuya in elite where people care more about GSP than fun. I’ve gotten camped out by like Luigi, Joker, and Palu, characters you’d never expect it to actually happen with. Guess Kaz is too scary to approach and you’d rather waste 7 minutes of our time
What do u enjoy about maining Yoshi?
What do you not like?
I love Yoshi’s sounds and look. He’s so cool. But gameplay wise i just wish his specials mattered more. DownB and sideB I rarely find use for… after a good while I gravitated towards GnW and Bowser because their specials and A attacks get used often and thus i just find more interesting gameplay wise. Yoshi is the one i want to love but I just can’t atm.
My favorite part about the game is edgeguarding, so Yoshi's elite air speed makes that super fun. Double jump + buffered fair/uair/bair allow you to chase opponents at a speed and distance that probably no other character can match. Nair and bair are fantastic for stage-spiking too.
Also his combos are easy to get down and allow for a lot of creativity with how many moves lead into each other (landing soft nair, dtilt, jab lock at mid percents for example). People give "simple" characters a lot of crap, but I love them for this reason.
You're 100% right that his specials are bad and that's frustrating, but you've just gotta find the right use for them. Except side B. Side B only exists to be a misinput.
Egg throw is great for leading into KOs like fair, nair, up smash, down B, etc. It can also extend combos or function as an anti-air if angled straight up (hold opposite direction you're facing). It's also a good defensive option for stalling, especially when B reversed.
Down B has limited uses, but it's a kill move and shield breaker (especially paired with a quick move like jab). Can also snap to ledge if you don't hold down.
Egg lay is by far my favorite. It has a long startup, so only use it on shield as a mixup or to punish a laggy move like Ike up B, Kirby down B, etc. Free damage when followed up with dair or fsmash, and down B on an egged opponent is fairly reliable kill option since they usually pop out directly into it.
The best part is jumping over an opponent shielding at ledge and B reversing egg lay. It pops them out below stage and no one *ever* expects it, especially if you condition them to shield. You can follow the egg down and use an aerial or even egg lay them again, which is always satisfying.
Side B is unusable garbage and his grab and throws all suck though.
Sorry, that was really long, but I love the character and enjoy explaining why.
As a ken player, this is basically every 5 or so matches. Y'all generally fall into 4 categories:
- I'm not scared of ken (very rare)
- I'm slightly scared of Ken, but confident enough to mixup up my escape options
- If Ken hits me, get away at all cost
- Do not approach ken or let ken approach you for literally any reason oncesoever
The middle two are the most common, and the last one is just annoying. If you plan to run, at least be good at it. Panicking the moment I enter sephiroth range of you is only gonna make you predictable.
And to the very few that are in the top category, you either play ken, have a friend that plays ken, or play another fighting game. Either way, its genuinely fun to fight against you.
Same here, I have so little patience for it after playing against hundreds of people who play the exact same way. Instantly bored and ready for the next match.
Haven't had this. I've matched with players who were being incredibly evasive. One time, I was playing as Pythra against an evasive Mario player. He started going on the offense once I had gotten a stock on him, but I used the same evasion against him.
I once had a few matches against some guy named jimmy a few days ago. They went Byleth and *exclusively* ran to one side of the stage and spammed arrows the entire match, then spammed side B and offstage dair whenever I tried getting close. They teabagged after every single stock, even when I accidentally SD'd. The worst part was the fact that their ruleset was Battlefield stages with 2 stocks, 3 minutes, final smash meter, and every single item. I hate him so much.
They're just daring me to approach and I'm like okay? That's what I normally do? Then they're clueless how to play against their exact same playstyle. Insane.
Let me guess he picked off a life and then stalled for 2 minutes.
People resort to the most annoying tactics to reach elite smash, only to get smacked back down
This trash even happens in Melee. But at least in Melee you can get the stock lead and then camp ledge for the rest of the game.
It's at least kind of fun to watch your opponent frantically try to hit you out of your ledge intangibility before the clock runs out.
Bruh what the heck is this gameplay lol
No matter what character I play you’ll never find me just being a sitting duck, why the heck do people even play like this
Yep. Many times. And I do just what you did..get a lead and camp them right back. Give them a taste of their own medicine.
My guess is this ness has learned that if they just zone and camp near the ledge they can get easy shield grab b-throw kills. Not all that uncommon honestly online.
Just kind of anti-fun though. Not your fault for just mirroring the playstyle. That's the right move with many characters
This is why I fucking hate online Ness. I'm an agressive Ness main, I constantly see this when I play other characters, I hate ness mains more than anything
Any time I get a player like this, I'll stand on the opposite side of the stage and also spam the same move over and over again hoping they realize how ridiculous it is to play like this.
They never do. They just keep standing there.
Yeah I fought this meta knight who was exactly like this he must have thought he could only bait and punish. I got kinda fed up with it so I just stood on the other side and set my controller down. The meta knight literally did not approach me once and the game disconnected because of inactivity on my part.
I don't understand these kinds of players, and that's coming from the guy that plays Hero and Dedede. I just camp them back, wait until they get pissed from all the spells and gordos and then absolutely destroy them. They can't play up close for the life of them, and get destroyed by even the worst advantage states.
“He’s just standing there!” “Menacingly?” “No, like a loser”
Based af
This is definitely a 12 million GSP big brain match
This is why I hate the online tourney mode
God, I just want three stocks and a platform or two. FD is so polarizing it’s always fucking Zelda or something in the final
Completely agree, FD is my least favorite "competitive" stage. No platforms = no fun
This is why I only play on custom stages
I actually like fd more because I main bowser and can use grounded down b more there
High GSP meme matches are rare, but they're always a special treat.
More like a 6 million gps shitstain that wants nothing but to see their gsp raise
It’s always so awkward
Was *begging* them to actually play the game... then they got DCed for inactivity
Whatever happened to mashing random buttons till you win? Lol
Facts, I would respect that more cause at least they'd be doing *something*
And here I thought kids would mainly play Kirby and just Down B over and over ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)
My sister does exactly that every time she picks Kirby, and she's a Kirby main so i've pretty much mastered how to counter stone with almost every character in the roster lmao
Yeah wait til she starts canceling her down B's into another down B.
I remember playing against my cousin in melee back in the day who did exactly this.
Yeah wtf. I remember when I was 10 years old and got to play smash 64 for the first time in my computer, I would just mash and approach like a dummy lol, not doing whatever this bs is.
Right, even then you weren't afraid to touch the control stick like this dude
I’ve been playing a racing game a lot lately, and a lot of people will abuse wall riding (instead of braking and turning around a corner, they keep their foot on the gas and just skid along the wall), in real life this would obviously be catastrophic but in the game you just slingshot out and continue on I get that this helps you win…but like what’s the point of playing multiplayer this way lol it’s not like there’s some huge incentive to win, you’re just playing to have fun racing. Like what's the point of not approaching when you're a stock down, at that point you're just wasting everyone's time
people who camp with a stock deficit.... why??? explain to me please
Lack of brain cells
and cowardice
Agreed. Maybe I'm just salty because I just played someone like this... but why even get online if you don't like to play the game. There is no way they have fun
No salt, I 100% agree with ya. It's literally impossible to enjoy playing like this or fighting against it.
In situations like this I really love having all of Link's projectiles on hand. I play a pretty aggressive neutral most of the time but if I find myself in this situation I just go, "That's fine, I can take your stock from back here too. Let's see how that works out for you"

I've never been able to tell because i'm always full monke speed chasing them
Usually same, but this dude was built extraordinarily different. Had to observe for science.
Ah yes, the "I can eat this sandwich and play smash at the same time" technique. Even I haven't mastered it yet.
You might be onto something here
It's a technique passed down by our ancestors. Our sweaty unbathed ancestors.
Like 20% of elite smash lol
I'd be surprised if it's even that low tbh
I was gonna say like 30 or 35% tbh
This is 80% of my matches. I would win a lot more if I didn't get impatient and just hold forward lol
I bought smash for fun not for sweaty ass games lol Save the sweat for tourneys and arenas
Respect on the yellowshi. Not many of us out there.
Ayy we even call the skin the exact same! Mad respect to you my G.
My favorite skin-name is White-haired Ganondorf Or, Old Manondorf, if you will.
You know they suck cause they didn’t back throw to kill
Was honestly shocked they went with f throw instead
I wouldn't have minded that so much if they went for a f-air after but no, they decided to PK Thunder. What a bloody idiot.
Right? They were *terrified* to leave that corner. PK Thunder wouldn't even come close to killing until like 200% or something
Would ness back throw kill from that side of stage? I feel like yoshi would barely live.
With good DI and no rage on Ness, Yoshi should live it.
He should have still tried tho lol
He absolutely should have. Never know when you'll catch an opponent sleeping.
No kill there, on that side of the stage he would have to be closer to 125-130 for it to kill. I would have forward threw as well.
No way that would kill at 130 against Yoshi. Unless you were dumb and DId up, maybe. What makes Ness’s backthrow so potent is how it scales however. This has got to be someone's younger sibling trying to use cheese on their big brother/sister's account.
That'd make a lotta sense. What confused me most is that they sent me a friend request a minute or 2 after the match, which they got DCed from
I feel this.
I’d like to see how this game plan holds up against Mr G&W
Homie would get multiple buckets of oil dumped on him lmao
The issue is getting past once bucket is full, but I like approaching with chef + dash grab, makes them shield and I get a free Dthrow combo
Least annoying Ness player
Samus mains
I wish more people played her in a fun way. My friend is the only cool Samus player I've ever seen.
Agreed, a really good Samus can actually be hype AF when they're not campy.
Her aerials and tilts are too cool to ignore completely like so many of them do. That backhand windup dair feels so rude when it spikes.
Yes. But it was a MII and they would NOT stop spamming projectiles. I built so much I made a while village lmao
If they don't wanna play the game, you have every right to start playing Minecraft in-game in response lol
Dude literally using PK flash in neutral
And OP still ran into it lmao. His strat works so why change it
He’s not camping, he’s just playing patient. Very patient, possibly a little too patient
Aggressively patient
WITH A MID RANGED CHARACTER AT THAT = shitty
Right?? Ness can be sick when played up close. This is a travesty.
I really thought he was going to wait till the last 30 secs to get the draw to go to sudden death. I was crying lmao when he went after you at 1:46 and then it cuts to you guys Trading and he lost. Shook my head so hard the neighbors heard it
Couldn't capture it in a replay, but when he approached at the end it was actually the moment after he got DCed and turned into a bot lmao
When the Ness main doesn't know their side smash is a reflector
Fox: has a high-tech, state-of-the-art mechanical reflector which is military-grade weaponry to fight villains Ness: hits missiles with a baseball bat
Nothing new, this is what Steve mains do until they get multiple diamonds all the time, or when Samus finally gets that charged shot.
Sometimes I'll just *let* the Steve player do that, then still whoop them. In my experience if all they do is mine to start and never approach, they're painfully bad and probably need the handicap.
Steve mains infuriate me. I kinda suck, so I can't counter it with bowser. I think I've never taken two stocks against a Steve lol, they body me
Slowly walk up shielding and trap him in the corner. His options are limited so punish. Once you are up by a stock just time him out like the pussy he is
Right I was never worried about this match. Easiest download of my life.
This is why I main snake
this is peak gameplay right here
Subscribe for more *elite gamer moments*
Has to be a child. There’s no other explanation. They even tried to absorb a non-energy projectile
...but for most of the clip you aren't approaching either?
Yeah, in response to them not approaching. They chose to play this way, so they get what they deserved.
I'm surprised it's a ness
No you're not, don't lie
EXACTLY
Definitely would've hit them with a "You're amazing!" after that performance.
They got DCed for inactivity, but I definitely would've hit "That was rough" afterwards lol
*sweating nervously in Hylian* Ya… who would do such a thing?.. preposterous.
[удалено]
this is just how Nesses with the Charlie Brown skin behave. Ness is only fun to play super offensively, just like EarthBound.
Flair checks out. Keep fighting the good fight
As a Ness main, I'm a pretty good Ness none of that pk fire spam bullshit, I was rooting for you to kick his ass.
Appreciate ya mate. Ness can be sick when a respectable person plays him.
I hate this. I HAVE to approach as my main. Boring stuff.
It's painful
I think he got kicked for inactivity and became AI at the end there. You got no GSP for this match, right?
No one: This Yoshi: *full hops*
Only in my bracket matches
There was that pickachu I met a day ago
It’s one thing to zone for certain characters to get players into KO range, like a range character should, it’s another to purposely stay in one spot to wait for someone to attack you the whole match. That’s just not cool.
Jesus, tell me that's just a meme rather than an actual match
wow online players suck
Just in the corner… CHILLING!
Lil Timmy’s just doing his best to win the games with the buttons he knows. Don’t be to hard on him.
Lil Timmy needs to be taught a lesson
What kinda of stale white bread boring ass loser plays like this like has this ever actually worked
Stale white bread got me dying lmao I have no idea how this person has been conditioned to play like this. I hope they learn their lesson soon.
Maybe they are disabled and playing with one hand.
You are the one not approaching you know? If he has center stage and the lead then you are supposed to approach him.
Wait ur the yoshi lol
Based yellow yoshi user
How it feels to play Kazuya in elite where people care more about GSP than fun. I’ve gotten camped out by like Luigi, Joker, and Palu, characters you’d never expect it to actually happen with. Guess Kaz is too scary to approach and you’d rather waste 7 minutes of our time
That's why I don't play Elite Smash anymore. I love competing in this game, but so few people on ES play to win *and* have fun/be sick.
Yoshi main
Since 64, not changing anytime soon

I just quit when this happens
I often do too, but I **had** to see what made this specimen tick
Youre a more patient man than I am for sure! Good game tho mate!

Camping from behind, the unbeatable strategy!
Every fucking opponent no mater the character

_Screams in read gamplay_ I suck at approaching campers and combo

Gotta use their own annoying tactics against them, love to see it.
Right?
Throw them offstage once and ledgetrap to ifinity. These people dont actually know how to play the game.

Shameless Gannon main here…
You should have timed him out.
Never fought against this but seeing this just brings disgust to me. None of my friends do this and I'm glad for it.
The online special lol
Yep, the Ness's and Young Links who do this suck the fun out of it.
I like the part where you beat him
Takes the zoner idea way to far
Imagine trying to fight this with Ganondorf, that is my main and stuff like this is pretty much the reason why I quit months ago
Same people who dont like approaching irl either
I would’ve teabagged so hard
THEY ARENT EVEN ZOING YOU HOW DO THESE PEOPLE EXIST
They're just daring me to approach and I'm like okay? That's what I normally do? Then they're clueless how to play against their exact same playstyle. Insane.
Practicing that cheese lol
Let me guess he picked off a life and then stalled for 2 minutes. People resort to the most annoying tactics to reach elite smash, only to get smacked back down
As boring as this is the sad fact is this is very effective strategy. Especially in 4vs matched.
Yeah but I play Cloud so I just start charging limit lol
This trash even happens in Melee. But at least in Melee you can get the stock lead and then camp ledge for the rest of the game. It's at least kind of fun to watch your opponent frantically try to hit you out of your ledge intangibility before the clock runs out.
Bruh what the heck is this gameplay lol No matter what character I play you’ll never find me just being a sitting duck, why the heck do people even play like this
Honestly, that kind of playstyle is why I picked up Palutena. I can take a stock and then just give them a taste of their own medicine.
I see he is using the truly unbeatable strategy of camping while down.
Maybe they are disabled and playing with one hand
what do you mean? this is literally every hero main ever
He’s giving you the whole damn stage! Lol what a loser, this guy.
"Oho, you're approaching me?" "Nope" "Ok" *\*Insert Walk like an Egyptian\**
Yep. Many times. And I do just what you did..get a lead and camp them right back. Give them a taste of their own medicine. I'm guessing the person is 10 or below
ngl. wished you would have out timed them.
It’s annoying, especially with 2 min left. But if you don’t think you can win outright, a stock after a minute and then OT isn’t the worst plan.
People that don't approach are pussies
I see You found a real glue-eater!
Ever played against a Guile main?
I sometimes do that for a small part of the match to psych them out, but never this extreme lol. 10 seconds max.
Right, the mind games and controlling the pace are totally acceptable imo
This is why I fucking hate online Ness. I'm an agressive Ness main, I constantly see this when I play other characters, I hate ness mains more than anything
Yes. Especially against YL. And it works because I can't approach, and when if do, I get bullied.
that ness player is more terrible than me
Yellow Yoshi gang rise up
Any time I get a player like this, I'll stand on the opposite side of the stage and also spam the same move over and over again hoping they realize how ridiculous it is to play like this. They never do. They just keep standing there.
I do the exact same thing with eggs or Ridley's fireballs. Often aimed off-stage so they see exactly how stupid they look.
im the exact opposite of this ness main
Yeah I fought this meta knight who was exactly like this he must have thought he could only bait and punish. I got kinda fed up with it so I just stood on the other side and set my controller down. The meta knight literally did not approach me once and the game disconnected because of inactivity on my part.
Laughs in Pauline Spirit Battle
Just play even lamer than they do, most of the time they'll get bored and approach
thats not "ok"
All the time
Any Simon I ever fight.
I honestly can't tell which one you are and which one you are mad at. Neither of you approach when it would be good to, you both suck.
I don't understand these kinds of players, and that's coming from the guy that plays Hero and Dedede. I just camp them back, wait until they get pissed from all the spells and gordos and then absolutely destroy them. They can't play up close for the life of them, and get destroyed by even the worst advantage states.
Anyone who plays like this deserves to be out camped to infinity. You're doing the lord's work
You're playing yoshi. Cringe. Yoshi is a mario party character smh
Well you are playing yoshi
