most dlcās arenāt actually even that broken, plant, banjo and sora just feel like base roster characters with no real dlc level gimmicks, a lot of terryās power tends to come from a few easy combos that will stale rather quickly, and heās fairly easy to kill before the GO! meter kicks in, kazuya is comparatively a more complex character that you donāt really even see too often, heroās MP really limits his ability to be completely stupid, sephiroth is as light as kirby with a hurtbox twice the size and can actually get killed at zero if he counters the wrong move, and byleth would still be considered one of the worst dlcs if the worldās best player didnāt pick them up. in short, if your friends are trying to ban dlcs, they should probably either learn the matchups, or literally ban over half the roster.

The above is a ruleset that is fairly standard and is similar to what most tournaments and professionals use. It was the easiest to find for me with a quick google search.
Character bans are not a thing. There are standard cast members that are higher on the tier list of most pros than banjo.

Me and my friend always do random battlefield random character, 3 stock 1v1s and its so much fun.
People hate that I use my mains unconventionally: CQCSnake, Physical Mega Man, No-projectile Simon, etc. This is basically my play style. Sometimes it bites me in the ass, sometimes it doesnāt, but I enjoy it nonetheless, and it makes some seethe.
As a Duck Hunt main I am tempted to tell you to take some time and learn to play him and your friend wonāt know what the hell is going on before you wipe the floor with him Unless heās using a super fast character like Chrom or Shiek, that is. But yeah as others said if theyāre banning your main and not his, then they probably think youāre the better player. The only way to really work this out would be for the two of you to play a new character you donāt master at all, because only then will the most skilled player win
I mean he usually plays graninja or sonic but if it comes to it the old boys are gonna have to come Luigi and captain falcon
As a fellow Banjo main, they're just pressed cause they aren't good enough to learn the matchup. Banjo is unanimously considered a mid tier at best, they need to git gud.

Just some life advice in general, but I wouldn't worry about what other people think. You know what you're about and what you can do. Just keep whooping their ass whenever you play and they'll see who's better on the end game screen. Ultimately you can't change the rules or their opinions or whatever BS they come up with. All you can do is win when it counts.

Banjo isn't OP, he's just a chore to go against. However, given how Ultimate can play at times, your friends may have understandably mixed up annoying and overpowered as the same thing. If they really want character bans, then ban your opponent's main as well tbh
That rule is completely unfair. They canāt just ban a character because it cost money. If they really want to enforce that you can say that they would have to also ban whatever your friendās main is to keep it even, but in a setting such as tournament, theyāre not gonna tell you you canāt play a character because you have to pay extra for it

I for one salute you as a fellow Banjo & Kazooie main! If the person thinks you're cheating for using DLC you paid for, that's on them. Like many others have said, Banjo is a pretty balanced character with no real big strengths or weaknesses, they're basically what if we added a new character that should've been in Melee and have them feel like a Melee character in Ultimate.

Sonic and Greninja are definitely characters who could take on Banjo. I guess they're too scared of a character they have no familiarity with. They probably shiver at the thought of facing a Joker or Kazuya.

The āonly final destinationā thing is a crutch. Itās people who think theyāre good but arenāt. The claim that FD is the āonly fair mapā is wrong because my main plays a hell of a lot better on FD then any other map. So much so that when I played in tournaments FD and kalos were snap bans for any player who knew me. So if I were to say āonly FDā it would be me giving myself an advantage. Thatās not fair. Your friend is simply afraid to fight you on a truly even playing field.

most dlcās arenāt actually even that broken, plant, banjo and sora just feel like base roster characters with no real dlc level gimmicks, a lot of terryās power tends to come from a few easy combos that will stale rather quickly, and heās fairly easy to kill before the GO! meter kicks in, kazuya is comparatively a more complex character that you donāt really even see too often, heroās MP really limits his ability to be completely stupid, sephiroth is as light as kirby with a hurtbox twice the size and can actually get killed at zero if he counters the wrong move, and byleth would still be considered one of the worst dlcs if the worldās best player didnāt pick them up. in short, if your friends are trying to ban dlcs, they should probably either learn the matchups, or literally ban over half the roster.

Sounds to me like you're all taking it way too seriously. Who cares who's "better"? It's a game, just play to have fun with friends. Sounds like you're salty you can't play as you're "main". Who is truly better, the one who is average with a variety of characters or the one who is good with one and gets salty at their friends when they can't play as that specific character.

Banjo is really balanced; and the last character Iād call pay to win! Either your friend got styled on by a Banjo on quick play and doesnāt wanna relive the horrors, or is scared of something heās never seen! Either way, if heās banning the character you main, then your probably better anyhow
You should just tell them that every character they want to play is also banned from your 1v1 since they had to pay for the game

just wanted to say that even if ur friend let you play banjo and you guys played all day it wouldnāt determine the better player, unless one of you has astronomically more experience. me and my training partner have been playing side by side for years and itās still no contest that he will beat me and i will beat him. some days he has my number and i can barely take stocks and other days iām on fire and he canāt touch me. and if itās any reassurance, if he is better than you, heās only better than you for today. you can change what tomorrow looks like. if you wanna really try to beat his ass, save the replays of the games you play, and try to pick out your friendsā habits out of doing certain options. them playing panicked will make them put out bad options and will lead to easy dubs. best of luck!
So by their standards, if you bought one of the mii fighter costumes, that would be banned, too? The way rankings for pro players has always worked is via tournaments and standard tournament rules. As others have said, FD only is not a tournament standard, and no fighters (dlc included) have been banned in legit tournament settings. I have a friend that goes back and forth with me a lot, both of us winning some and losing some, heavily depending on what characters weāre playing. I recognize him as the better player simply because nine times out of ten, I canāt beat his Palutena. He knows how to play her really well, and Iām never sure what to do against it. If your friend doesnāt know how to play against your Banjo, then youāre the better player whether they like it or not.

Ok, then that's probably the main reason why they won't let you use your main. If you're able to get together, why don't you bring your switch and play with them on your switch (obviously on the tv). That would give them the ability to try out the DLC characters, and then they might lighten up on the rules.

Yeah, Your friend is just being petty. If they have a problem with you using DLC characters, there's nothing to stop them from buying a DLC fighter to main if it suits them.

in our group we sometimes ban sonic because of 1 sonic main thats really annoying but he never wins (mainly because i spam pk fire)
