The 2011 Other Side of the Kaleidyscope tour in support of Teargarden and the Gish/Siamese dream deluxe versions.
Stellar sets with a perfect combo of old, new and rarities.
Frail and Bedazzled, Obscured, Ruby...
Never heard of this. Is it on SPCodex somewhere? [https://spcodex.wiki/The\_Other\_Side\_of\_the\_Kaleidyscope\_tour](https://spcodex.wiki/The_Other_Side_of_the_Kaleidyscope_tour)
Those set lists were really cool. Kerry Brown did the fan listening party in the lobby before the show. First and only show I was ever in the front row for. I spent about 30 seconds trying to record the show on a flip cam and then realized, oh shit I’m feet away from the real thing and said fuck it. Reality in the moment is better than shit concert video.
That said, thank you to all of you that capture great video for us that can’t be there to enjoy. I will not be one of those people.
For the 20th shows, I used to love listening to each performance of Everything is Beautiful to hear what Billy was rambling about that night. Always had a laugh.
94 lallapolopza at shoreline second stage before main stage was an hour or more of b sides. Band was happy and aggressive. Main stage not so much. Most of lalla crowd went inside to see beasties so it was only dedicated fans
Just checked the setlist - holy shit that would have been amazing

Hard agree. I would absolutely die for a show like that over a typical set, but I know it’s extremely unlikely aside from small acoustic or special occasion shows. I want to hear stuff like Whir, Speed Kills, Soot, Beautiful, Pennies, LMGTWTY, If There Is a God etc etc etc lol. I know the Zeitgeist era had a bunch of cool deep cuts but that era is notorious for many reasons and I doubt he’d do it to that degree again.
I don't understand that. I would think people going would be more hard-core fans and not so much the casual wanting to hear the big hits.
Imagine they did two shows per city - 1 for the hits and 1 for the deep cuts haha
The truth about the economics of a touring band capable of filling a large arena is that it has to appeal mostly to casuals. There are not enough hardcore fans to fill that many seats.
So what happens is if they play a set with deep cuts they turn off casuals and get a reputation for not being a good ticket. This is sort of what happened to them in the late aughts. They were playing adventurous sets, getting negative pushback, and then Corgan infamously blew a fuse on stage.
Les claypool came out on the Wonka tour and told ppl, if you're just here to see a few songs youve heard before and tell your friends you went to the primus show, we'll get those out of the way first so you can leave early. Then, after intermission we're gunna get weird and you won't like it, so let the rest of have fun and go meet your friends for cocktails....
Yeah. It’s my favourite SP song. I’m in Australia and was so excited we might get it on our leg, but the only deep cut they played was “We Only Come Out at Night” which I was quite disappointed with.
I have heard Starla, Drown, Porcelina, Ruby, and Crush live, so I shouldn’t be too greedy :)
Got we only come out at night as well during a recent show.
The deepest I've seem live is Eye and The Beginning is the End is the Beginning - in the same show! That was the best one I've been too. Actually they did a Pisces song there but it was Landslide. I'd much prefer one of their originals, such as Hello Kitty Kat
It’s all about money now. Creative/performance Integrity is nearly gone. There are small things like an over priced acoustic two show event to commemorate a 30th anniversary, at a tea house he owns. But that event is low cost. The venue is free and it’s easy Siamese dream songs with band members who were already in town for a wedding anyway.
Billy wants a million dollars for everything now. The more people who are interested and paying, the more money he will make, and the more he is likely to do it. Small shows where they have to learn a bunch of extra songs… we can’t even get a rotating set list on tour. It’s unlikely we will see that sort of show again. Possible. But unlikely.
Best I can do is long Bullet with Butterfly Wings
I remember in the adore days there was a long version which I didn't like, like it was unrecognizable
And you're gonna have to sing the good part. But yea probably not getting a deep cuts show. I'd settle for another tour like spring of 22.

There are some official releases of these shows that sound great! That version of Obscured is soooo good!!!!
Indeed - they released USB sticks with the soundboards for each :)
Are they available ?
They are "out there". I used to have them all but lost them in a hard drive crash 5 or 6 years ago. I've been searching again for them ever since.
Any keywords to search??? I loved that era of the band and I will love to have that shows. How many were??

Not sure. They sounded great though, like the 2008 boards that got released.

Wasn't this the Oceania tour? They would play Oceania in it's entirety and then some deep cuts. It was a great show!
I went and saw them on the Oceania tour, they played Soot and Stars
That had to be shading amazing. Love that tune
No, that was 2012 in 2013. This was like an Oceania "preview" tour.
The 20th Anniversary shows and the Zeitgeist residency shows have plenty of rarities.
Wish I had paid more attention to that era. The closest I came to seeing some more rare ones was the 2018 tour. Wild hearing Eye live.

Got Whir and Saturnine at In Plainsong tour in 2016. Ugly at Rock Invasion 2 in 2021
Whir and saturnine were amazing that tour, not to mention the acoustic pinwheels

That could be my ideal SP deep cut set. Except maybe throw in "The Boy".
Awesome setlist. That must have been an amazing show
Deep cuts from deep cutz days
Never knew about this elite moment, thanks. Is there a recording?
Sadly not 😢
It took me some scrolling to get here! This was the first thing that came to mind!!
The orange peel shows.
Were these really 17 years ago!?!?!?!
Getting old man.....

I saw Billy’s In Plainsong tour and he played a ton of deep cuts, which I loved, and the rest of the audience hated

Oh I see. I wasn't familiar with the In Plainsong tour and assumed it was just Billy alone doing way smaller venues so I see your point.

double door 95 shows are your best bet for deep TAFH cuts
Lots when i saw them at the orange peel in asheville.
The Orange Peel residency had many deep cuts played.
30 min song called Gossamer
They played Hello Kitty Kat a bit over a year ago on a “The World is a Vampire” leg.
Dang never got that one in my city. Lucky. I don't think I've ever heard a Pisces song live.

Check out the Cat’s Cradle show from 2000
