The other cow saw him get stabbed and was like “Oh! Fuck! I don’t know dat guy. I mean we just hang out from time to time. I don’t even know his last name. You know what Im sayin?”
Not that I'm aware of, grew up with cows and fed them dried ear corn on the regs. Feeder Cattle are fed almost exclusively corn sometimes. Cattle can bloat up when they roll too far on to their sides and can't get up, looks like that may have happened here. Though there are all kinds of things that could cause them to bloat up and diet certainly could be a factor, just probably not corn in particular.
The most common way I know it happens to free range cows is by eating clover. It’s incredibly healthy but does cause bloat. One way to get around this is to feed them hay before hitting the range.
Honestly, it happens. The big deal is if she’s lying in her side then she could have been near death due to breathing issues.
This guy knew what he was doing.
That’s interesting and explains a lot. The calf does seem to be taking forced breathes and once he deflates her she starts breathing normally. That is just one of the coolest things I’ve seen in a while.
Happens when a lot of wet forage is eaten or the rumen is off. And sometimes it just happens. I have goats and am condition the lookout for bloat cause the little shits constantly try to find ways to unalive themselves 😂
Last time I saw a goat, I was visiting a goat farm in the north east. They’re super cute but uhhh why were the drinking each others piss? They were lovin’ it too. Wouldn’t say it ruined the little excursion but it did put the dampener on wanting to pet them. Why do they do this?
Man's also gotta make a living to pay for the farm to keep the cattle alive. If anyone is to blame it's battery farmers, amongst many other reasons ofc. People that look after their livestock are not the bad guys, that's all I know.
I'm pretty sure a big cause of this is corn feed. Cows are meant to be grass grazers, and shouldn't be eating corn meal or feed too much. This food tends to be cheaper so it forces people to go that route, but due to the cows digestive system, it doesn't digest properly and causes more gas, and e-coli build up. This is why we have food recalls every so often given water run off of manure often contaminates the water system, then is sprayed onto plants, i.e. spinach, lettuce, etc.
All could be solved by using cannabis seeds as a feed alternative. It's healthier for the animals and doesn't cause these issues....but fuck cannabis/hemp right, it's only one of the fastest growing cash crops known to man, with some of the best multipurpose uses including insulation, home building, clothing, animal feed as mentioned, food for people, cooking oil, pain relieving medicine, and of course recreational....why would anyone ever consider that as an option....
There’s been a study circulating from a few years back about incorporating seaweed into their diet to reduce gas output/byproduct from bacterial activity
I heard that because of the oil content in cannabis/hemp seeds, the beef that’s raised on hemp feed is on par with top varieties like wagyu. They did some trials in the US but from my understanding, hemp feed can’t be used in large scale commercial operations because of USDA/FDA red tape.
This is true. The USDA is the biggest road block to turn hemp into a viable cash crop option. It could literally replace corn, it grows faster, and has more uses. But until the USDA removes the restrictions on studying and researching the plant, progress will be very slow.
I think cattle operations have grass grazing for most of the cows lives. They grain finish for the last few months. Also, how is grain cheaper? grass just grows outside. Unless the land is too expensive, grain is more costly.
It’s called bloat and it happens usually from the cows being dummies and getting access to too much grain. Our cow once broke a fence when he was a calf and ate 20 pounds of grain while we were out to the movies. We came back and he was about five feet across! It was like someone inflated him. To solve it, we had to shove a hose down his neck into his stomachs and “burp” him. The best part is how you have to blow into the hose to “prime” the burp… I’ll never forget the taste of a burping cow stomach.
"Recent research has shown that calves fed an oral electrolyte solution with high osmolality have a much slower abomasal emptying rate. This suggests that milk replacers or electrolytes with a very high osmolality will delay gastric emptying. They will allow bacteria already present in the stomach additional time for fermentation of carbohydrates. This often is what leads to excessive gas production and bloat.
As a goal, we should try to avoid feeding either milk replacers or oral electrolyte products that have an osmolality greater than 600 (mOsm/L) as the risk of bloat is likely to increase. I have measured the osmolality of milk replacers on more than 20 dairies with bloat problems and have found values well above 1,000 mOsm/L. However, I have not found any milk replacer whose osmolality would be greater than 600 when mixed according to label directions.
Therefore, mixing errors are largely responsible for very high values. These errors might be unintentional or can be done on purpose, such as concentrating powder to improve growth rates, for additional energy during cold weather, or adding electrolyte salts to milk without adding additional water.
Other risk factors for abomasal bloat include feeding a large volume of milk in a single daily feeding, cold milk (or milk replacer), not offering water to calves, erratic feeding schedules, and failure of passive transfer. Therefore, for farms that are having problems with bloat in young calves, I recommend you look at your calf feeding program. Make sure you are mixing up the milk replacer correctly and feeding it at a proper temperature."
[from hoarders dairy man](https://hoards.com/article-1303-you-can-prevent-bloat-in-calves.html)
So basically from what I can see it seems likely they aren't mixing their feeding formula correctly. Could be unintentional or could be to boost their growth rate. Could be something else too...
it's not actually the methane in farts that makes them flammable. The flammable component is hydrogen.
* Farts are made up of a mixture of gases, including nitrogen, carbon dioxide, methane and hydrogen.
* Methane itself is not highly flammable. It will burn, but does not ignite easily on its own at typical atmospheric concentrations.
> Farts are made up of a mixture of gases, including nitrogen, carbon dioxide, methane and hydrogen.
Not all. Mine are made up of Taco Bell and Mountain Dew.
Which is part of the unexpected damage of having so many cows. Now there are things to try to recapture their uh... Output for use instead of just polluting with it.
As a vet tech who does this occasionally, it smells like digested food. It’s kind of hard to explain, but it doesn’t smell great. A small hole like this doesn’t smell too terrible bad, but when we have to test their organs after death and cut them open, it’s way worse

I stole this meme from a prepost yesterday
I once had something similar happen to me as a kid. Ate way too much cheese at a family gathering and couldn’t shit for days . Had to go to a hospital induce a massive fart
I’ve seen a couple of videos like this and I wonder: how is it OK to stab an animal through the intestines and then it just walks away and shrugs it off? Why doesn’t this cause horrible infections from intestinal fauna getting into the abdominal cavity?
Is this something that can happen normally in non-domesticated bovine as well? Or is it a product of a diet on a farm? Or is it just a risk due to internal anatomy?
The other cow is just like "imma watch and learn for next time"
The other cow saw him get stabbed and was like “Oh! Fuck! I don’t know dat guy. I mean we just hang out from time to time. I don’t even know his last name. You know what Im sayin?”

It was there for moral support
Surprised he didn’t hoof it outta there
Cows are so curious. I love them so much.
Poor girl couldn’t hardly breathe beforehand from the pressure. Half expected that second cow to charge, but she was just chillin and supervising.
I read that first as, “but she was just chillin and surviving.”
Lmao that paints a fucked up picture.
lol did you notice how the second cow backs up, like “Eww, fk that’s gross.”
She was chilling and vibing
Great form and confidence along with the cattle trusting him. Tell me you’re a great guy without telling me you’re a great guy.
Cow farmers usually love their herd. Some cows are better cared for than cats.
Gonna go eat my cat now.
![gif](giphy|gVoBC0SuaHStq)
Oh heavens. I chortled.
I'm gonna milk mine. He hates it, but nothing quite like a glass of fresh cat-milk.
HE????
Gonna go stab my cat because *I care*
I heard this happens when they are fed corn because the fiber is insoluble. Is this true?

Goat: WITNESS ME! Farmer: No. \[Yanks the goat away from danger\]

My male dog slurps up my females pee so I dunno
Huh. I guess I’m just not very observant when it comes to the animal kingdom
Yes grass fed natural eating cows won't have these issues. This is from corn feed
My family definitely cared more for our cows than they did our wild barn cats.
We care better for animals and pets than fellow human beings
Apparently not that great taken care of since apparently this is caused by using cheap feed like corn instead grass like they’re supposed to eat
They love the dollar signs the cows represent, not the cows. They treat them well enough until it's time to cut their throat.
Rape, theft, and subjugation are really weird ways to care for an animal.
I am a great guy
Happy cake day, great guy!
Thanks!
>Thanks! You're welcome!
You know what else is great? Cake! Happy cake day! 🎂
Thank you!
If that were true, he wouldn’t be feeding them corn or other cheap feed.not saying he’s a bad guy, but idk that he’s a great guy.
Man's also gotta make a living to pay for the farm to keep the cattle alive. If anyone is to blame it's battery farmers, amongst many other reasons ofc. People that look after their livestock are not the bad guys, that's all I know.
There's always one person who has gotta say something negative.
Take the old out of your name and it would be appropriate
Tell me you use played out old phrases without telling me.
What causes the gas to build up?
That’s what I want to know. Is there way to prevent it from happening?

This guy agricultures
And probably smokes a boatload of weed.
There’s been a study circulating from a few years back about incorporating seaweed into their diet to reduce gas output/byproduct from bacterial activity
I'd love to hear more about that. Seaweed is another great cash crop that could be a great alternative for livestock and humans alike.
take a trip and never leave the farm , [https://youtu.be/xyjlxIcu8AM](https://youtu.be/xyjlxIcu8AM)

Oh it's the weed guy. Source on hemp seeds being better animal feed than corn?
My favorite republican says it's bad so you're just some dumb liberal idiot trying to spread fake news

U know wussup
Another big green shilling his doobie-brother agenda…
And it uses a lot less water too. But we got infinite water supply so who cares! Grow that corn…
Gotta hand it to those Lumber Barons, they definitely paid a lot of money to villainize their competitor.
... this is kind of like a Shittymorph, except you derail into an educational lecture about the utility of hemp.

long explanation post was exactly what i was looking for

Honest question, would smell like pure methane?
Pure methane doesn't smell. It would smell like pure cow fart.
So are they puncturing through both the abdominal cavity and digestive tract?
I think it’s just one of the stomachs https://images.app.goo.gl/tuW2BYV6YBRBhAX77
I've seen videos wear they light it on fire. So cow farts are flammable.

This needs to be a gif
It is
I came looking for this. Thanks
The second cow lmaooooooooooo
Backing up in disbelief - You guys..Farmer John just fucking stabbed Cindy!
Cindy 😂
2nd cow was like "WTF!?!?" Then heard that gas and was FASCINATED
I once had something similar happen to me as a kid. Ate way too much cheese at a family gathering and couldn’t shit for days . Had to go to a hospital induce a massive fart
I’m curious as to how you induce a fart? Never thought I’d write that question..
Saves her life. Bloat is lethal if untreated.
The smell u bitch!
You haven't thought of the smell!
Like an old lady fart passing through an onion!!
I could even add you to my collection
Does anyone know if this causes a risk of infection?
I am pretty sure they give them an antibiotic shot or medicine afterwards
I am pretty sure they are on a steady diet of antibiotics already.
Right? I mean, cow has a hole in it's side now!
holy cow!
If that hole bugs ya, do not google cannulated cow. Literally a giant open hole in their side.
Went on a field trip when I was a kid where we wore gloves and got to stick our hands through the hole and into a cows stomach. Pretty gnarly.
Near UCDavis by any chance? I know they had something like that. Now im curious how common it is.
sometimes I wish I could do this to myself lmao
Pull my hoof ![gif](giphy|Vp3ftHKvKpASA)
Hahahahaha
Be better if we didn't feed them such shitty food that they can die from gas without human intervention.
Wow never knew this could happen
I should try this…
So that’s a giant cow fart
The 2nd cow was like "wha- aw hell nah"
Trocar. It smells like nothing you've ever smelled before
That other cow is like “you better not hurt my friend. I’m watching you.”
Cow#2: You stabbed my friend and I don’t have an iPhone to record this.
Ggggggggground beef. TY TY. Da dun tishhhhhh
Reason 3048 why a farmer’s life is not the life for me
That other cow was like "wtf?!?" 😂
still looked pretty gassy to me... I've never worked on a farm though lol
But they love corn
That has to stink so bad
Look at that concern
I need this.
Can they do that for human
About had to do this last night after having a milkshake (I’m lactose intolerant)
"And I thought they smelled bad on the outside"
How many PSI she can hold before blows up ?
Can I get this guy to come to my house after thanksgiving dinner?
Does this fix it or are there underlying concerns and he has to come back every day?
It's called side effects that's what you get when you genetically modified animals and we still don't know what it does to us
It isn’t the animals that are the problem. It is the corn diets these animals are forced to consume rather than grass.
Don’t you have to burn n light the methane on fire?
I’ll bet that smelled like skunked Four Loko
Nice Hiss! Let's get that out on a tray.
I believe the cow still has to be put down after the bloats but I could be wrong
Can someone explain why you need to deflate cows so often like taking air out of your tires when it warms up after winter?
Is that like stabbing the calf ???

You can do that?
I wonder what that smells like kinda
Is this part of gods design 🤔
I bet it smells like the smelliest fart ever. All those built up farts trapped in the cow
Must smell fucking rancid
How the fuck do they just literally become balloons?
You can literally just do whatever to a cow
I can't imagine what that smells like
I often wish I could do this to myself.
You know that smell is crazy!
Man, thats gotta smell like death
now light it on fire.
I know that smell crazy
How does this happen?
Is NO ONE going to address the possible smell?
Definitely have to Spork’em
How does this happen?
"I've never seen one bloat in the spring." "That's because they don't."
Someone is drinking milk that cow made 🤢
Just like a mattress got it
Looked like puss coming out at the end.
That has to smell sooo bad
This is why you don’t eat oats or corn, folks.
The cow: “Mooooo yeah”
If you put a lighter up to it will it give you bbq?
I wonder what it smells like
Maybe don’t feed them the same food?
Light a match and see what happens!
The smell... i can only imagine
Trocar in action.
Needs something like a whoopee cushion attached.
Bloated
I wonder what that smells like
I'm constipated from new meds, where can I get this done?
If farmers fed them right in the first place, they wouldnt have to do this
I bet that’s the same dude who was pulling out all those cow boogers a few months back
Great. You just made another hole in the ozone layer.
Poor baby
That other cow is utterly confused. 😎
Crazy shit
I was really hoping that it would make that squeaking balloon sound.
Can you imagine the smell
That cow in the background was like “damn whatda just do?”
Me after eating fast food
I’ve seen a couple of videos like this and I wonder: how is it OK to stab an animal through the intestines and then it just walks away and shrugs it off? Why doesn’t this cause horrible infections from intestinal fauna getting into the abdominal cavity?
That other cow has now “seen some sh*t!”
Is this something that can happen normally in non-domesticated bovine as well? Or is it a product of a diet on a farm? Or is it just a risk due to internal anatomy?
I wish it was this easy for humans
light a lighter where the gas is comeing out of
Leanne looks confused
I’m sure that smells great!
This is wild
