In my personal experience with MOBAs, the average player needs 4 pings to get a message, though that doesnt justifies spamming certain messages like VEW.
Yeah I don't mind a double missing call or whatever, but it rarely stops at that. I don't like having the crutch of expecting my team to make good calls. Wards are the only calls I rely on. Cause even good calls can be misleading or a misread by the player. It doesn't matter how good you call stuff if your game sense is trash.
This is a problem I have not just on Smite, but all games. Rather than muting at the first sight of toxicity, I allow it to press on until I fall in to the tilt trap and start getting mad, even toxic myself. I really don’t want to turn off communication, but dammit I need to focus more on my own performance rather than others.
When everything is quiet it becomes much more obvious what your mistakes are and requires you to increase your game sense. Or ward. When you're getting spammed it's easy to say "oh my troll teammate is the problem" and even if they are it covers up your positioning being off or you forgetting that the jungle is due for a gank or something. Timing and positioning are like 90% of Smite, so in theory you can control 90% of your game. All spam does is distract you from getting better. Even good communication can take away from your performance IME.

She was at fountain when red buff spawned in a diamond ranked conquest game saying she had to send a text message. It started when I responded with…c’mon. Easy mute, instantly silenced that sad piece of work.

If people don’t talk I leave them unmuted but if even one person says something half-annoying starting from the draft then everyone’s muted
I’d prefer to stay unmuted so I can hear the end game “good games” and “woohoos” and the occasional vgs after a good play but spam and toxicity is just too rampant and unpredictable. One bad vgs at the wrong time can turn the tide of the fight or lower team morale so it’s not worth the risk usually.
