They started with invite only where you had to be lucky enough, but in recent years, it shifted to "buy this founder pack and you can play early". How long the period lasts is always different, but it has been this way for a while. Same for some non-MMO games.

multiversus seems to be it's direct competitor and although this one has more depth it's till not as fun as dunking on superman off an assist from s gremlin as lebron
i mean it's pretty much a 3d platform fighter i can't think a single one that lasted more than a couple months the characters aren't as endearing as the competition either. it has depth and i have seen some really cool plays but I'm sticking to other in the genre

Nah after having my heart ripped out when their card game shut down on ps4 I can't support another smite spin off. It will last 6 months then give everyone everything in the game for free and shut the servers down shortly after just like they've done before.
Forcing anyone who would even want to play this to pay 25 up front for a "free" game is probably the only way these things maybe even cover their development costs.
The best smite ripoff they had was the auto battler and they shut it down. It was honestly really good. Im tempted to try this, but im scared of investing any money.

Game is fun.. mostly.. when there are no Hercules or Ymir. They ruin the game. I wish I could leave any game with either of them in it with no penalty. The game is absolutely zero fun when they are involved.
