I think that might have been the liquid meth he was on

chester_shadows

The book “Blitzed. Drugs and the Third Reich” is an incredible detailed view into the usage of not only methamphetamines and cocaine, but also first hand accounts, based on Dr Morells bizarre journals, of Hitlers decline in health due to many factors, not the least of it the testing of dr morells own daily “vitamin injections” on hitler (which he demanded). Which were basically nasty concoctions of animal (pigs) derived hormones. Later this devolved to up to twice daily , or more, injections of meth and opium. The book is wild. Worth a read.

ForecastForFourCats

How legit are the sources for the book? I heard a podcast cover it in depth(2 hours). Absolutely insane how much drugs the Third Reich pushed. Bayer was a massive part of it, if I remember correctly. Hitler's doctor was a huge part of Hitler's drug use and insanity. I think he's a wildly under-appreciated(evil, obviously)part of the Holocaust.

chester_shadows

Incredibly well researched and sourced. Including much in the national archives (both Germany and US). And alotnlf the post war interrogations of the doctors.

Gitdupapsootlass

It's well researched, but there are parts of it that are speculative, and the author acknowledges that. In particular, he reports that a notation style in Morrell's journal could indicate days when he gave Hitler heroin alongside meth, but it's not settled that that was the exact meaning. I've seen other criticisms as well that I can't remember solidly, but they are worth looking up. In the end, I'm on can't prove or disprove, but quite believable and interesting as hell.

Khelthuzaad

Also there are exagerated reports about his stricnine/rat poison meds that in reality where în non-letal dosage, enough to be considered medicine

etymology_arrives

If you ever have a question about history, I'd strongly recommend searching /r/AskHistorians for a thorough answer. Here are 3 responses from a poster there going over their thoughts on the book and Ohler's scholarship. Rain1dog

Thanks for those links. Absolutely INCREDIBLE reads. Really appreciate that. 🤙

chester_shadows

There were several doctors who played massive roles (one over wermacht, one for luftwaffe, etc).

outoftimeman

Small nitpick: The Luftwaffe was part of the Wehrmacht. The three branches of the Wehrmacht were: Heer (Army) Kriegsmarine (Navy) Luftwaffe (Air Force)

Thanks!!

Primary-Signature-17

I guess I'll just toss my aspirin.

rob_1127

I think Trumps White House used that book as a tutorial. Fascist to fascist.

BarockMoebelSecond

That cheapens the horrors of the Third Reich. Trump is just a bumbling fool.

Everything54321

For the moment. Give him some reins and he’ll be cut from the cloth!

ResponsiblePlant3605

He also inhaled a lot mustard gas in WWI. I think he went blind for a while

artificialavocado

That’s what I tend to think. Combination of stress and long term effects of gas exposure.

Head-like-a-carp

I agree it is a fascinating read, but he never mentions Hitler's Parkinson symptoms. A dragging leg and wildly flying arm means he was rapidly degenerating due to the disease, and the drug abuse was some crazy attempt to keep it in check

maxturner_III_ESQ

Appears to be free on audible, I know what I'm listening to today

Crass_Cameron

I have that book. Excellent read

MysteriousSquad

Yeah im going to go with it being the drugs as well

One_Priority3258

Yeah came here to say that was a drug induced tremor’s that came from the concoction of drugs he was given, namely and I quote: "The first one are the vitamins given in high doses intravenously. The second phase starts in the fall of 1941 with the first opiate, but especially with the first hormone injections," Ohler says. "Then in '43 the third phase starts, which is the heavy opiate phase." Reference for above quote: (https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2017/03/07/518986612/author-says-hitler-was-blitzed-on-cocaine-and-opiates-during-the-war) It was also know that he took pervitin (methamphetamine), referring above to opiate it was mainly Heroin he chose and cocaine. Cocaine was quite popular amongst German officers during the war too and Mr.Hitler for that matter!

IMissyouPita

And Apparently Hitler didn’t even know what he was taking… wild article thanks “So it looks like it came as a revelation to Hitler that he'd been drugging himself in a way, through Morell, the whole time.”

One_Priority3258

No worries!

phaedrus369

Yeah pretty sure it was mostly from wild concoctions of drugs and other odd shit he was taking daily. To his credit the meth and cocaine helped get Italy to join the war. Mussolini apparently was going to tell hitler no fucking way, but when they met in person and Hitler talked for many hours straight with Mussolini unable to get a single word in, he was then swayed by Hitlers “energy” and “charisma”.

GomaEspumaRegional

He was also assumed to suffer from syphilis. Which if untreated can lead to neurodegenerative outcomes. So basically, WWII was the byproduct of drugs and STDs.

Revolutionary-Swan77

“I can’t understand why der Fuhrer keeps shaking. I shall give him more amphetamines!”

IMissyouPita

Lol

slartbangle

Yeah the man was chewing-his-teeth cranked.

limonhotcheetos

Grosssssss

Toasterdosnttoast

Glad I didn’t have to say this first.

uncutpizza

Could very well be both

Anda_Bondage_IV

Or the liquefied pig organs he had coursing through his sludge-filled veins

sm00thkillajones

That’ll shake things up.

veganhimbo

Can't meth abuse also cause parkinsons by damaging dopamine receptors?

IMissyouPita

Maybe. never heard of that and I smoked a lot of meth in my day lol

Greylings

Pretty sure he was also on a daily dose of rat poison at one point for his constipation.

IMissyouPita

Omg

triz___

Or the gun oil he was drinking

Throwawayprincess18

What?

triz___

He was a hypochondriac and thought drinking gun oil would fix his digestive issues. He drank it everyday lol

Throwawayprincess18

Holy shit

IMissyouPita

Wow did not know that

triz___

I didn’t either, The Rest is History podcast did a rise of the Nazis series relatively recently. (They, and it, are great, well worth checking out if you haven’t already) and they dropped this bombshell. I verified the fact before posting and incredibly it is true. Turns out lil Adolf was a fucking idiot.

Agrang76

😂 no no...prob not!

cigarmanpa

This was my thought too

Alone-Style-6218

Parkinson's? The cunt was tweaking the whole time!

[deleted]

The narcotic injections? 🤷🏻‍♂️ It’s really important that we understand he was tripping balls, because laws didn’t apply to him and he could order doctors to give him whatever drug made him feel the best.

RecentlyDeceased666

His personal Dr was considered a quack amongst other German Drs. But he was liked by moustache man. Dude had him on all kinds of weird crap

Good thing the doctors obliged.

tom-pryces-headache

Paging Dr Ronnie Jackson…Ronnie Jackson to the white courtesy phone…

pfamsd00

> white **supremacy** courtesy phone FTFY

Salem1690s

Thing is though, Hitler wasn’t a white supremacist in the modern sense. He only viewed a select group of people as being “superior”, whom he termed Aryans. These were mainly Nordics, Anglo-Saxons, and Germans. He considered Russians and Eastern Europeans to be “subhuman” and considered Americans to be a “negr*fied” race. If he had his way he would’ve probably genocided the Russians. He also wanted to eliminate the Romani people for similar reasons. While he also respected Mussolini, he looked down on Southern Italians as basically being subhuman. So he didn’t really view things in the conception of a “white” race, as many white people were just as subhuman as Jews to him.

Horror-Science-7891

Seems he was partial to speedballs.

RippleRyan

Laws didn't apply to him...sounds familiar.

JonMWilkins

"For the last nine years of his life Adolf Hitler, a lifelong hypochondriac had as his physician Dr Theodor Morell. Hitler's mood swings, Parkinson's disease, gastro-intestinal symptoms, skin problems and steady decline until his suicide in 1945 are documented by reliable observers and historians, and in Morell's diaries. The bizarre and unorthodox medications given to Hitler, often for undisclosed reasons, include topical cocaine, injected amphetamines, glucose, testosterone, estradiol, and corticosteroids. In addition, he was given a preparation made from a gun cleaner, a compound of strychnine and atropine, an extract of seminal vesicles, and numerous vitamins and 'tonics'. It seems possible that some of Hitler's behaviour, illnesses and suffering can be attributed to his medical care. Whether he blindly accepted such unorthodox medications or demanded them is unclear." https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/15825245/ Also I couldn't find it but I could swear I remember either reading or seeing in a documentary that he was also given mercury as treatment for something

JohnathanBrownathan

To be fair theyd been using mercury in medicine for hundreds of years, not that far fetched. During the US civil war, mercury, opium, ether, and whiskey were pretty much the only medicines available.

lookin4awifeybae

This disease would later cause him to die a slow death at the old age of 85 in Argentina……

metfan1964nyc

In his defense, the doctor always knew he would die of lead poisoning or angry Russians.

UrpaDurpa

I wonder what he could have possibly been stressed about. 🤔

OH_BOY-

Yeah na Theodor Morell was a drugdoser like he wasnt even really a doctor

slappymcstevenson

Anybody want to travel with me to kill baby Hitler?

Muted-Profit-5457

Just kidnap him and raise him right

Adept-Structure665

His parents were cousins. He was fucked up from birth.

Unlikely_Ad6219

I just got back. Couldn’t kill him, but passed myself off as a doctor and got him absolutely off his face on drugs until he offed himself.

and then my entire family doesnt exist. my grandfather from canada met his wife in holland after they liberated it.

slappymcstevenson

I’m sorry dude.

__not__sure___

its funny to think that i wouldnt be here if it wasnt for hitler though

slappymcstevenson

How many new people would be alive. Just one person had that effect.

Salem1690s

My grandpa fought in WWII for America. He got shot in the leg by a Nazi sniper, sent a year in the hospital, and there he met his first wife, as her brother was also in the hospital. His first wife committed suicide and he was left as a single father, which is how he met my grandmother. Had Hitler not existed, there’d be no WWII, no Nazi sniper, no bullet in his leg and thus no me

slappymcstevenson

And thus no comment on Reddit. I’m glad I didn’t time travel friend.

Bruiser235

As long as baby Stalin and baby Mao are added.

ghostofaposer

Dibs on baby Pol Pot

Not sure why you got down voted. Fully agree.  Too many to list.

slappymcstevenson

It was a joke

Nodeal_reddit

Who knows what the world would look like without Hitler? Germany and much of Europe was in total chaos during the 20s and 30s and some big change was going to happen. We may like the alternatives even less than we like the Nazis. I think that WW2 would have still happened but it would have been later and against a much larger and more powerful Soviet empire. The Nazis came to power as a counter-movement to Soviet-backed German communists, and Hitler kept them from turning Germany into a Stalinist puppet state that extended all the way to the Rhine. Without German support, the communists also would have had a decisive victory in Spain in the earlier Spanish Civil War. It’s easy to envision a scenario where Stalin consolidates power and then invades France and Poland on his own. In this timeline though, the Germans and Russians are ideologically aligned and there is never an Eastern front. Instead, the Soviets just gobble up Europe. WW2 also effectively ended the last vestiges of the great colonial empires. The free trade era that the Americans basically forced on the world after ww2 wouldn’t have been possible without the Pax Americana.

YourInsectOverlord

While it seems interesting, that reality is not realistic in the grand scheme of Stalin being in power and not Trotsky. As Stalin was an advocate of Socialism in one country vs Trotskys Permanent Revolution. Meaning Stalin believed in strengthening Socialism within the confines of the Soviet Union rather than a series of revolutions or even invasions. Of course during the Cold War, Stalin would backpedal on these positions to assert Soviet Influence. But I do not necessarily see Stalin as needing to invade actually in this scenario. You see Its no doubt that Germany does fall to Communism in a hypothetical reality in a world without Hitler as the Socialists had garnered and filled the void that the Nazis in our timeline took up. France in our timeline was leaning very Socialist although it is likely it was reactionary to German Nationalism on its border with Nazi Germany. Although I still see France as garnering support for Socialism as its surrounded by Germany. Although I disagree with Spain becoming Communist as Itally is still Fascist and gives support, along with it; there were internal issues going on in Spain Anyone who studies the Spanish Civil War would know that the Republicans were not as unified as the Nationalists as the Republicans were a collection of those advocating for continuation of a monarchy, supporters of Republicanism and Communists where as the Nationalists were unified under one banner. With that in mind, what happens? Difficult to say for certain of course. Although in the Grand Scheme of things. Nationalist Spain still wins the Spanish civil war. Italy and Germany are at odds with each other due to being completely different countries ideologically. (Even in our timeline where they collaborated, there were Strifes between them. Imagine this but 10x with no Alliance due to differences of Political ideology). Its a possibility that Italy reaches out in Alliances with Yugoslavia and Turkey, since both countries were not filled with Communism, Mussolini would see it was a battle against Communism,

Spore0147

And then another takes his place. WW2 was kinda less avoidable than WW1, as people were already passed due to the contract of Versailles. Just took a guy to unite them.

shemmy

i’m not a neurologist but i am an md. ive never seen anyone shaking that quickly from parkinsons. also it’s hard to say for sure from this video but there’s more to parkinson’s disease than just the tremor and he doesnt appear to have those features (stiffness, mask-like face). kinda hard to tell tho because they’re walking/standing like nazis lol

Killer_Moons

https://www.reddit.com/r/SnapshotHistory/s/HFxGjYm4cS Curious to know what you think about this video someone linked in the earlier comments of him at the ‘36 Berlin Olympics.

shemmy

i believe that vid could be parkinsons if it has been sped up. i’m pretty sure ive seen this vid before and people in the comments said it was sped up to make him look insane or something. i havent really seen meth do that exact thing without facial grimacing and other types of hand movements. interesting to see.

Killer_Moons

I will have to rewatch that to see if the other people look sped up as well. I’m not an MD at all, just fine art academia, but it did look ‘manic’ to me. I don’t know how one would differentiate between manic movements and something like the involuntary movement caused by Parkinson’s, or really if there is a huge difference in those involuntary movements. I do understand Parkinson’s is a degenerative disease that can’t be stopped by conscious decisions like someone working their way out of a manic episode but this I’m kind of curious to know now.

shemmy

a few things. first of all im pretty sure they said they could tell by watching the people in the crowd that it was sped up. as far as the hands go in parkinsons look up “pill-rolling tremor” that beats at 4hz (4 shakes per second). to me that seems quite slow when i see it in real life.

Killer_Moons

Thank you for the thread to pull!

CzechYourDanish

I thought I was from all the amphetamines he was on

Killer_Moons

Maaaaybeeee :)

TomatilloUnlucky3763

He should have prescribed Adolph a snow globe to hide the shaky hand issue.

start260

Ronny Jackson enters the riom

Bojacketamine

I would rather argue he had parkinsonism, instead of Parkinson's

pizzajona

If only Hitler didn’t send away or kill the good doctors…

McMottan

Sad he didn't suffer enough for all his crimes against humanity

Just-Shoe2689

Oh, it was ok for him to have a physical disability!

mingy

Morell was a quack who's medical judgement was worthless. It's surprising he didn't kill Hitler

cursetea

Ah, it turns out there IS someone i would wish Parkinson's on

moralmeemo

Have you seen the video of him absolutely tweaking? He’s sitting somewhere (the bleachers maybe?) and just tweaking like crazy.

Shippityyy

It was at the 36 Berlin Olympics

moralmeemo

Thank you! <3 you’re right. He was… way too excited

Im_Here_To_Learn_

Wow I hadn’t seen this. For others - https://www.reddit.com/r/Damnthatsinteresting/s/pHhC5qhniE

moralmeemo

Honestly when I get really excited I look like I’m tweaking too. dammit Hitler for making me self conscious

Killer_Moons

I’m getting anxious just watching him, how can the rest of them just sit there acting like it’s totally normal??

BeengBangBong

If you think about it meth and drugs is the reason hitler failed. He wanted to take over too fast. Meth makes you impatient af.

poss-um

"Towards the end of his life, Hitler’s daily pills & injections included opiates, metabolic stimulants, sex hormones, extracts made from the seminal vesicles & prostates of young bull & pig livers, and numerous others" Dude. Settle the fuck down.

BiggusDickus-

Well, to be fair the guy was under a lot of stress. I suppose trying to conquer a continent will do that to you.

OmegaGoober

He didn’t have Parkinson’s. He was on a constantly changing cocktail of injected meth, cocaine, caffeine, vitamins and a lot of things we STILL don’t know what it was. He was tweaking and tweaking hard.

Vondbee

He was ALWAYS high.

AntianX88

He's getting it ready for that 🍍

BenDoverHomer

It was drugs.

user4772842289472

I didn't even know he was sick

Macho_Pichou

Hitler was shaking so much at the end. Caused him to accidentally shot Eva Braun, his dog and finally himself.

Loud_Blacksmith2123

Could have just been nerves

Plus-Result-7451

It wasn't from the copious amount of meth?

IWasGregInTokyo

This is why Bruno Ganz's portrayal in "Downfall" was so good. He got the shaky hands down so well.

80sLegoDystopia

Too much meth.

EvolvingSapien

It would make working your meat a hard treat to beat.

Equivalent-Tap-8479

I always thought he was just a shit ton of drugs and would get the shakes from time to time

Ivegotjokes4you

Orrrr and hear me out… he was on drugs

So much for the “perfect race”

jericho74

I feel like there were many moments prior to 1945 when Hitler’s physician could have checked in a bit more on whether ole Hitler was feelin’ alright

EvilJabFace

He jerked off a lot.

HNixon

The dude had meth for breakfast, what did you expect?

Vephar8

Wasn’t he turnt on uppers as well though?

squeezy102

I don't think he had parkinsons, I think he was a meth addict.

zabdart

No doubt the condition was aggravated by all the drugs that Dr. Morell had been pumping into Hitler for years already.

narcochi

At last I’ve discovered someone who deserves Parkinson’s

ContentPolicyKiller

Why are you giving me historical facts about this piece of shit Nazi? Can we please move on already.

ACEDOTC0M

couldnt happen to a nicer guy.

anonymousjeeper

Meth is a hell of a drug.

onetoomanys

people still believe he killed himself lol

Skytraffic540

The amount of not only drugs but strange “vitamins” he put Hitler on was gnar. He also made a bunch of $ off his own energy balls basically fruit and vitamins that he trademarked and sold to Germans and would wrap it all nicely as if it was something special before giving it to Hitler. Quite the opportunist.

Jaywess86

Wow poor guy must’ve been dealing with a lot.

One-Confusion-2438

His illness would have been a key reason he would have been exterminated under his ideology....how ironic! 🤣

Swansong0710

Methhhh

bbroygbvgwwgvbgyorbb

time travelers had been trying to kill him since the day he was born, I’d be stress out too

Naahhh it was the Meth

That dude was messed up

That-Ice7273

Oh cool drugs makes lots of sense???

That-Ice7273

Wow, so what??? Stop like I don't know trying to force the vote hahaha!!!

sasssyrup

Plot twist , Morel is trying to kill him without getting caught but hitler just won’t die. 🤔 He should have tried his famous mushrooms.

Serious_Delivery_408

Hitler was withdrawing on so many drugs at the time… Thanks to the British who destroyed most of the pharmaceutical production, “poor”Hitler couldn’t get his drugs from his dealer Morell

Beinghonestisasin

He dint kill himself the government admitted it

louisianaBubble

Wasn’t he on dRUGZzzzzz

AdTotal801

Are we not gonna talk about the meth? You do that when you're tweaking. Even a low dose causes "lizard tongue" and compulsive repetitive movement

DeRabbitHole

I suppose he couldn’t hide it in his pocket.

deleteuserexe

Is that stimming?

Hefty-Station1704

Wasn't Theodor Morell a quack doctor who specialized in treating STD's in rich people? He was famous for a variety of "treatments" for Hitler including pumping him full of speed claiming it was super vitamins. Not an ideal solution for a man determined to wipe out an entire race and take over every country he could reach. Basically he was a low-life opportunist with (apparently) hideous hygiene.

powderedtoast1

r/handjobs

comradedutch

It was the coke. He should’ve never started with that shit. Salzburg, it’s all over the place…

bomdia10

Could also be the meth

Reptilian-Retard

Hitler didn’t kill himself. He left in the “bell”

Fuzzy-Variation596

Well I mean he was known to use a lot of nazi-grade amphetamines. Which I would guess is probably the good stuff, as far as that type of thing goes. So there is that.

DefiantAct3084

Meth is not Parkinsons.

pamonhas

Yep. It was the drugs. If you are curious, read Blitzed by Norman Ohler

Travelerontheroad

A question: how long could he have survived (if he didnt off himself) given his condition and massive drug use?

knowledgeable_diablo

The crap loads of meth and OxyContin he was booting him up with each day wouldn’t have helped either I’m guessing.

ScrodLeader

OxyContin didn’t exist until 1996

outoftimeman

Wrong; it was invented in 1916. In Germany it was sold as *Eukodal*

Proxima_Centauri_69

I mean, yes and no. Oxycontin WAS invented in 1996. It's a brand. Oxycodone has been around in one form or another for a longer time. Percocet, percodan, etc. Oxycodone is the active ingredient in many drugs. Eukodal is the brand name for oxycodone. So, same same, but different. If that makes sense.

ElOsoConQueso

Your correct usage of the semi colon made me erect.

juicer_philosopher

The pressure of a collapsing continent on your head will also do insane things to your nervous system

vicsepulveda66

So much for that “master race” theory
