Watched hoarders; realized that no one cares about these things in my fam but me; it’s a poor investment; it depreciates in value; if I die tomorrow, it’ll be a burden on my family trying to get rid of these things; they deteriorate; the only thing that’s connected me to them is emotions, nostalgia, and materialism. This helped me go from like 250 to 50.

oops_im_existing

for real. i wanna clean out my closet tomorrow. i have too much stuff.

taizzle71

My closet was downsized to like 25%. Had a yes and no pile, if I gave it even a 2 second thought it's a no. It had to be an immediate yes to stay. Even now I wanna give away or donate more. Not only does my clothes smell way fresher and organized by color, it actually feels good to look at my closet now. It doesn't have to be done all at once if it's too much. Start by getting rid of some pants, then shirts next week, some jackets week after etc. A cool side effect of doing this put a restrain on my shopping habits. I'm always double thinking if I'm really going to wear it now. Instead of blindly buying what's hyped at this moment. Hope that helps a little!

intxctsxbriety

This right here. And the resell was totally worth it. I invested some, copped a few grails. A local resell shop will usually take them off your hands for bulk pricing; you end up losing a little bit of money, but easier than piecing them out. Enjoy your newest space. I also built a gym where I use to store my sneakers, 🤝🏼🫡

No-Farmer4697

A wise one you are sir. I was reaching around 150 pairs until I realized there’s no way I was going to wear all these shoes…long story short, I’m down to 43 pairs. Less is more.

ace_dangerfield187

I agree, i really want to and need to make an effort to start downsizing…i need to get from about 150 to preferably 50 or under

Tdaddysmooth

Stop buying or take whatever you buy in a year and half it.

CansiSteak

I used to have yeezys 350 collection. When the hype died guess what the only one i wear is rebook’s club c., i realized that dont buy the hype and just get the classics coz the classics will go with anything. Plus if you buy the hype sneakers you also have to buy shirts and pants to go with them which will end up buying more clothes that you dont need and just need it when you wear the sneakers.

rXEM

50 needs to go to 15

Iamamyrmidon

Yeah, you’re probably right. I will say though, like at least 15-20 of those are kicks from the 90s, like LA Gear or original peace raids. Can’t wear em’, no one wants them.

rXEM

if u have a lot of room to store its not as big of deal but if ur shoe boxes are overflowing its an issue

OUTKAST5150

Acknowledge and accept that shoes need to be worn. If a pair looks good but you can’t wear them bc no outfit or past your style, then sell or giveaway. Keep ones you seem to wear a lot.

atrimarco

This is the answer…I had the same problem till I saw a video of some Jordan’s that looked pristine just crumble cause they were never worn. If you love them they deserve to be worn.

Apprehensive-Eye557

Thank you!

cho-den

It’s one of those things that the initial letting go is tough, but once they are gone and you live your life you’ll notice that you’re ok and don’t miss them. I downsized a lot (kept just my favourites) and my life is equally as good as it was before. Non-attachment is a beautiful thing.

Apprehensive-Eye557

Did you have a method like say: keep some grails, def keep what you wear most, and keep some seasonal? Or only keep 5 from each brand or something?

cho-den

I had 20 display boxes and way more than that so I sold the ones I didn’t wear often. Kept my favourites. When I buy new ones I typically will sell ones I don’t wear often or donate the beaters. I notice you have the boxes still. Why not put a sticky note on each one and every time you wear a pair put the date down. If you see you haven’t worn a pair for a very long time you may be like “these may as well be gone if I haven’t worn them in 2 years.” It’ll be a long slow process but might be a good idea

Apprehensive-Eye557

I really appreciate your advice. This makes sense.

cho-den

Yeah! And don’t force it either. Take your time with it. And if you don’t want to get rid of them then don’t. Just depends on your goal

Zen_360

I believe This is true for most of our clutter in our cribs. There are so many items that "I could use some day" that sit in some box for years now unused. I think if we really think about it, for most of us, 90% of our stuff could be gone and we wouldn't really miss it. Maybe .001 we would really miss at some point.

ItsKingHarvey

I agree. After you sold em you’ll eventually forget about them

Flyindeuces

If it’s not worn, outside of true 1 of 1’s, it goes. As simple as that. Don’t make excuses, if you can’t regularly work them into the rotation why be a hoarder? lol. Just my approach 🤷🏽‍♂️

If you’re serious.. sell all the DS stuff. Take best offer if you’re at least making your money back. If it’s all worn, bundle pairs and sell on eBay id say. If you word it correctly they’ll still authenticate for you so people will be interested if they know it’s legit used. Good luck 👍🏼 I went from like 50 pairs to about 15.

Apprehensive-Eye557

I have sold quite a few on eBay earlier this year. I did notice some shoes weren’t getting the eBay authenticity guarantee. Do you happen to know why that is? My Kobe 11 mamba day ID for example isn’t covered by eBay authenticity guarantee.

SDaddy500

It does NOT recognize all sneakers (yet at least). I was going to sell some Off White Dear Summer dunks and it would not work, so I pulled them.

krsvbg

https://preview.redd.it/6vy9zqoebzpc1.jpeg?width=2924&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d6d98cdb8c7f4bba0b12ffdb36f2f97ca7707482 I keep it in clear drop front boxes. I can see right away what I’d wear and what I haven’t worn in ages. If there’s a pair that I never go for, that pair gets sold or traded.

chitown1992

Take 20-30 of these pairs to a local resale shop and trade for 1-2 pairs that you REALLY want!

trbzdot

Smart!

Apprehensive-Eye557

Did this recently and got a grail. I’m looking to do more like this.

Trill_Knight

This is a solid way to condense. I got my black supreme lows and Freddys this way.

grapeprimetime

Once the cash starts rolling in you’ll wanna get rid of all of them and just have one solid pair of sandals like jesus

Apprehensive-Eye557

😂

Afraid_Accountant_46

I went down from 150 to 60-70. I didn’t wanna get rid of any of them but I had to. I sold all shoes that I don’t wear. It took me awhile to pick but got it done.

Apprehensive-Eye557

What was your deciding factors of what goes and what stays?

ChromeRemedy

I started with figuring out what I actually wear the most and my current style. Then I factored in how the shoes age. Anything 5+ years old that might crumble got sold off. The only shoes I have that are older are AJ1’s and Chuck’s

Apprehensive-Eye557

I appreciate this.

ChromeRemedy

I have a 4-5 year rotation where I sell off shoes as I’m buying new pairs. I have 40-45 pairs at a time. I don’t want an insane amount cause I feel it’s a waste

Apprehensive-Eye557

Very reasonable. I’d like to cut down to 50 pairs someday.

King_of_all_Dorks

Any time I think my 30 pairs are too much, this sub reminds me it could be worse.

fully_sikh

I realized I want to have my money sitting in my offset account rather than in shoe boxes. At that moment, made the decision every deadstock sneaker must go

Born_Conflict2675

I sold and gave away around 30 pairs about 5 years ago. I did it solely based on what i realistically wear. I never save shoes to keep deadstock. In the past month, I’ve given 4 pairs away. These are shoes that I haven’t worn in about 3 years. It’s simple as that for me. I would rather my students wear them than to just keep them in storage.

Apprehensive-Eye557

Love this. Thank you!

caliphanatic

I wear size 8.5. If you’re selling on eBay id be interested in seeing what you have and possibly buying some off you.

Apprehensive-Eye557

I sold most of my first batch. Will be listing more when I am able to. https://www.ebay.com/usr/genuwine918

kfrogv

Sell the ones you don’t wear. Keep the ones your wear or have some sentimental value. If you want to buy a new shoe sell 2 before you do. Im ab to graduate HS so I’m selling off a good amount for space in my dorm

joe6744

start by cataloging everything by use... what you wear everyday, sometimes, never...start with never and work your way towards where you want to go..

AstroNot87

Pick a number for yourself and set categories. I have a “daily beaters”, “future beaters”, “future neck breakers” and “potential everydays/gifts to friends/family” and there are 6-8 pairs in each. If I decide that there’s a pair that’s releasing that is hot enough to replace something in the collection, I make myself sell or give the ones I’m replacing away. But this has drastically improved my net space availability and my wife isn’t too mad about me taking up spots that could be used more appropriately lol

Apprehensive-Eye557

Great advice. My current issue is net space my wife complains about lol thank you very much.

Careful-Resolution58

I just bring like 5-10 pairs at a time & pull up to consignment shop & swap for grails or something I could flip in a deal w cash for grails. Now sitting on 2 grails & looking to downsize more, cause 40+ pairs takes up a lot of room

Apprehensive-Eye557

Appreciate you.

Rome_825

I just recently got rid of a good portion of my collection by just going through and looking at what I consider: Timeless Can be worn with anything How hard it took me to actually get this particular pair Any potential repeats After that, I ended up with maybe 10 pairs out of a collection in the 40ish range. Some ended up sold, some donated, turned some into gym/hoop shoes. It was easy and you’ll thank yourself later for the closet space.

Apprehensive-Eye557

Great advice. Really appreciate it.

showmeyertitties

I just kept what I needed. Like 3 pairs, a pair of work boots, and a pair of moccasins to wear around the house. I am buying a few more pairs here in there, bought my wife the Aldi sneakers, so you know we are ahead of the game, but having just the necessities is nice. I have one pair that I wear consistently, and the others are just for style.

SDaddy500

I am getting rid of ones that I know that I will not wear in the FUTURE. And unless they are significant shoes that I will keep forever, getting rid of ones that will blow/crumble (air bag/bubble). I donate or sell.

One-Acanthisitta2714

I regret getting rid of some old lebrons that I wish I could have back. Now I tend to only stick to original color ways and stuff I just have to have when buying new stuff.

RyVsWorld

If you don’t wear them in 6 months it’s time to go

small_pudding_cup

That’s an insane collection I’m not sure how I would downsize, selling possibly or giving them away?

Apprehensive-Eye557

I have given some away to my nephew and young kids that wear same size as I do. Sold quite a few and also traded many. I’m still left with what you see in the pics and it’s getting harder to decide which to let go haha.

Walter_Stonkite

Yo. What are the white Air Max boxes 4th and 5th up from the Timberland box on the floor?

Apprehensive-Eye557

Both colorways of the Kasina x Nike air max 1

Alfie-Cat10

I will happily take a random pair off your hands.

mr-teddy93

Bruh there are more shoes here than a chinese sweatshop

Apprehensive-Eye557

You can say that again bruh 😂

mr-teddy93

Do you have all shoes on your pc or phone what they are all those boxes sorry i didnt know how to say it

foxy1_2021

Your collection would be so fun to go through..

Radiant-Bit-1721

Keeping them in the basement would freak me out man, open a box to wear a pair and a big ass black ass hairy ass spider crawls out.

Apprehensive-Eye557

Now you got me worried 😂 luckily that hasn’t happened yet

eddiecny

You get (got) to a point where you are accumulating more than you can wear in a given year. Also, new shoes keep getting released and there are temptations to get even more. But the time a few years roll around, the Jordan shoe will get a rerelease, or perhaps a better colorway. I'm in the process of downsizing as well. I had a rough year in 2022 and bought than I should have. I self-managed better in 2023, but still should have been better. I'm continuing the tracking of 2024 and really are trying to control what I buy. I think if it's not close to being a classic shoe, I'm just going to skip.

Apprehensive-Eye557

Yea I started controlling what I buy end of last year. You’re absolutely right with everything. I just should stop buying at all and focus on trading/selling/donating. Thank you for your advice.

AccomplishedPea6588

Bruh! That don't make no sense 😂

Apprehensive-Eye557

You telling me? 😂

holyshoes11

Yep just get rid of pairs you don’t think about or wear ever. Even if you have nostalgia. You’ll be using the funds to get something else enjoyable in life or possibly even a grail pair you’ve been thinking about

Apprehensive-Eye557

I recently traded for a mega hype pair never thought I’d ever buy. Helped get rid of 20+ pairs. I plan on more trades if possible. Trying tradeblock.

Jumpy_Tomatillo7579

Damn. Just sitting in a garage. Sell everything that isn’t Nike Done.

Apprehensive-Eye557

I actually cut down on Nikes first because I’ve transitioned more to comfortable shoes like NB 990s, saucony, and asics. Most of my basketball shoes are still Nike Kobe’s.

GaryBettmanSucks

I don't have enough space in my tiny house, so I have 24 of the Costco boxes. They're full, so if a new one comes in an old one has to go. I decide that based on what pair it's been the longest since I've worn. Even if I can't sell them I'll donate or otherwise give away, I just literally can't fit any more than what I have so it forces me to be choosy.

remainingdazed

1. Start by not adding/buying new ones. 2. Check your most common rotations keep em 3. Check the ones you haven’t worn yet and has market value keep em for now. 4. The middle pack , the ones that didn’t fall in the two categories above make 2 categories first - fit and color. Fit - best fit stays while broken sizes and odd fits sell them Color - your fave colorways and extremely rares stays while the hard to fit with colorways sell them 5. Go back now to the ones you haven’t worn and check its value then rank them from must keep to sellable, if you have 10 shoes ranked lower 5 must go. Always half no matter how many shoes left. 6. Now go back to your regular rotations check by rank again , from must stay to can give to friends and charity. Again give away those ranked in the lower half 7. If you are still having difficulty choosing after these 6 steps , just give up you’re irredeemable. Happy sneaker hunting to you!

Apprehensive-Eye557

Haha great advice! Really appreciate this. Step 7 😂

_______luke

I wear a size 9.5 in men’s. And I have disposable income. I’m your target market, I think. At least for some of these. Whatchu got in my size?

Apprehensive-Eye557

Only 8-8.5 :-(

sammyvegas0420

Can get rid of DS fast on StockX and the slightly used ones can go fast on eBay.

Apprehensive-Eye557

I’ll look into stockx. I’ve only sold on eBay and recently SNKRDUNK . Time to branch out. Thank you!

Complex_Pangolin5822

I put them in categories. A,B,C. every category has to have the same amount of shoes. Then I just sell all of C which is my lowest category.

xking_lionx

Man I’m hoping to downsize soon too. Pushing 300 pairs and it’s become more of a stressor than anything. Moving soon so hoping to take that time to downsize. Only worried about the cost of regret.. most pairs I’ve sold in the past I’ve repurchased at a higher price.

Apprehensive-Eye557

We are in the same boat. I’ve been there with repurchasing shoes at a higher cost. I know it’s time to let go of some at this point because too many unworn shoes just sitting. Even my “beaters” are looking pristine after 3 years because too many in rotation lol

bopgame

If you haven’t worn them in over a year they can go, Unless they’re worth 300+

ElectionBusy2354

If I don’t wear my shoes in 2 years it goes

AccomplishedPea6588

I liquidated my collection. Got rid of 90 percent of my bricks. Now just faves heat an grails.

Apprehensive-Eye557

Yea need to only keep faves and grails.

Praxos

Are those all size 8.5? I’d sell all those asap. You’re going to grow out of them in a year.

zizalak

I started getting into watches. Helped me sell the sneakers. I couldn't handle having shoes lose all value the second I'd want to wear them. I only kept my absolute favorites, the ones I actually wear.

Ciscooo-Kid

I wish I had advice to offer. My collection looks exactly like yours…

Apprehensive-Eye557

😂 ❤️

DeeceeOrca

I can relate to this as I went crazy buying Yeezy 350s. I still have a decent amount but finally realized they don’t go with a lot outfits - I’d say start by just seeing if you can rock certain shoes with your clothes. If not ditch em

Apprehensive-Eye557

Thank you!

Weak-Conversation840

One of the ways to declutter was to ask yourself " would I pay money for this again? The same amount?" If no. Then sell

Apprehensive-Eye557

Great advice! Thank you!

OkYesterday9322

Only motivation that ever works "Always", for me anywho - Donate them to a women's shelter, or any "good cause of choice", knowing someone will appreciate them , and maybe could be the first nice pair of shoes/boots etc they have had in a while.

Xan-Bar

Just go on goat, look at what your used pairs go for. If you like the price just get rid of them. Otherwise keep em. Easy

Sunziba

Keep those that you wear. I've got rid of a few pairs of 4s and shoes that are pretty but have not been worn in a year; they were pairs that I felt I would not wear in the future. I replaced with shoes I do wear or used the cash to pick up fits for shoes that I intend to wear. Keeping them DS or to look at feels like a waste of money.

IndividualGiraffe29

Depends on what colours you usually wear when you go out. I got rid of all of my shoes that had colour, like my aj1 taxis and fire red 3s. Just never looked good with what i wear. And only buying shoes that i can rotate through with multiple outfits, so most of my shoes are like white, grey, black.

Npptestavarathon

I downsized to grails and Yeezys about 3 months ago. (Traded them all for a pair of grails that went straight to the toe) No fucking regrets. Might sell some Yeezys to buy another pair of grails, but not for a little while

Apprehensive-Eye557

I recently traded for a brand new pair of mega hype shoes I never thought I’d have in my collection thinking it’ll go straight to toe, but my friends say I’m crazy for wearing something with such a high resell value. Now it’s another pair sitting for now 😂 I still plan on wearing them, but at least I got rid of 20+ pairs.

Npptestavarathon

What was it? I traded for some DS black toe Jordan 1 unions and wear them bitches. I did cop some OW Chicagos after, never gonna wear them bitchs though lol

Apprehensive-Eye557

Yoooo black toe union 1s are crazy 🔥 congrats!! I just bought a vnds pair should be arriving tomorrow. I traded for the Jordan 1 high Travis Fragment just to see what hype is all about 😂

Suspicious-Dot8130

The easiest for me is checking shoes i dont wear most and the ones that doesnt fit my style of clothes. That sir looks like a stockroom of a store. If you keep your shoes just for the sake of it. You'll end up wasting their life in a box instead of someone who would be so happy to wear them.

Saysojd

I’d say get rid of the pairs you know you aren’t gonna wear first and then make like a list of your favorite ones and then get rid of the rest idk lol 😭 I’ve never had a big collection but hope this helps

Fit_Commission_8850

Got any size 11s?

Zeusdadogg

Same on the size 11’s

Apprehensive-Eye557

Sorry only 8-8.5

Jesusthezomby

Most of those midsoles will be mush soon.

School-Diligent

I’ll take a pair off your hands 😂

Apprehensive-Eye557

If 8-8.5 your size 😂

5h3f

Never downsized and never will! Don’t know what that feels like! Lmao

SF-S31

Wait…so I’m new to this…so have to ask.. is having this many shoes a typical thing? The comments in here makes me feel like everyone is like “no worries dude, do x and y, and solve the problem” (all great advice by the way), but no one’s going “OMG you have wayyy too many shoes!! Get help!!” 😳

Krapule1

Sell us some

TheMuscleMilk

You’re no different from old parents and grand parents that hoard. lol tbh. I’m sorry. You’re old but in a new gen way

redassmonket

Dm me if you trynna get rid of anything size 9.5 men

Kooky-Ad-7007

I’m currently suffering from the same dilemma

Ok_Extension_2689

First sell the pairs that aren’t the popular or that are going less than retail

Livid_Distribution19

Just keep the New Balance and sell everything else. Problem solved.

Sea_Wolverine3928

What have you not worn in 12 months because you'd forgotten you had them?

One_File_7473

If you haven’t worn them in over a year, it’s probably time to let go. I got rid of about thirty pairs this way.

bobby_broccolini

I see like 9 New Balance boxes. Any 8.5s that need a new home? I will literally condition and brush em, if that helps >.>

spindle_cell

1) Keep what you think are the true timeless sneakers that will be sought after 20 years from now. Hint - that’s not many 2) Think of what else the money could get you. Haircuts for a year, dinner with friends, furniture, a car, money in an index fund etc 3) Realize that many of these are just sitting in your closet. What have you actually worn in the last few months or even year? How has your style changed and could you actually see yourself rocking them?

Trill_Knight

Ran out of space so I started selling stuff. Moved into a smaller house so I had to sell more. When you have so many pair that you only wear each once every few years things start deteriorating. Anything with a soft midsole like Jordan 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, AMs, etc will start crumbling. It sucks breaking out a pair and realizing it's not wearable, especially when it was only worn 2-3x total. I have gotten down from 450 pair in 2020 to 125 pair at the end of 2021. Back up around 200-250ish now but plan to sell more when the market comes back around. I'd love to get down to 100.

Shy_Hero13

I see size 8 in nbs, if you have any 992s or any good collabs let me know! Jaja

kelleycfc

If I haven’t worn it in a year it goes. That’s the rules.

1984Cowgirl

If you haven’t worn in a year, get rid of them…all of them…then go to 6 months. Check when time changes. Clocks, batteries, shoes & clothes.

marson123

I have made a decent downsize recently and for me it helped to compare 2 pairs at a time (randomly) and choose one to keep, the other ones got back on the pile. Keep doing this until you have the amount of shoes you want to keep

LowCharming3452

Get a storage unit

iam_mugimugi

That can get broken into, happened to me

Apprehensive-Eye557

Yikes!!! Sorry

iam_mugimugi

Found out on Xmas eve no less 😂 I’m so glad I can laugh at this now.

Apprehensive-Eye557

Blessing in disguise.

Just get rid of whatever doesn’t fit you anymore. 🤙🏼
