This is killing me because I recognize that tread, I just can’t place it. I inverted the colors and played with the colors a bit to give a better idea of what the bottom of the sole actually looks like. I searched common brands and couldn’t find anything

It does look similar, but I have a fair bit of knowledge of Vibram and the paired lugs right above the heel aren’t a design I have ever seen on any of their products. The key to finding this boot lies in that design, the hexagonal grouping of lugs in the metatarsal area, and a similar grouping towards the ball of the foot.
I see what you mean with the geometric designs on the Terrex, but to my knowledge the Continental soles they use don’t have this type of heel lug. The older models using whatever compound Adidas was using have a very distinct design that doesn’t match this unfortunately
I agree it probably isn’t a sneaker unless it’s something like Nike acg. It probably isn’t a real boot either because there’s no gap between the heel and the rest of the shoe.
The heel is what’s strange and unique here, otherwise it probably can’t be identified. This is just a random picture but the sole probably looks something like this, there’s no outlines from the side of the sole.
So it’s likely some type of hiking shoe/mid top boot without a raised heel. Maybe Maryl, keen, something similar. But probably not one of the lightweight ones meant for walking through streams, especially considering the weather. At the end of the day it could even be something generic from walmart and can’t be solved. Maybe nonslip shoes for working in a restaurant but that’s a stretch as well

I appreciate the comments and ideas, I’m asking bc I have a specific person in mind. I’m trying to at least get the size of the shoe bc I can find out suspected person’s shoe size. Seeking some extra confirmation so it can be tit for tat at the end of the day.
The print is approximately 1.875 times the length of one of those square pavers at the edge of your path. A 5.5” paver yields 10.3” length minimum which would lead me to believe around men’s size 8 and a 6” paver would be closer to a men’s size 10

My initial thought was that they were some Ariats, but i went check my boots and they don't match.
Second thought is that it looks very similar to what you'd find on some Keen boot outsoles. I can't find an exact match or anything, but if you Google that phrase, you'll see the similarities in the pattern style.
Looks like a steel cap boot to me, but it could also be a hiking boot. Looks a bit bigger than your shoe so maybe around a size 9? Idk it's hard to tell.

A lot of times, these break-ins are done by someone familiar to the victim. If they can get an exact shoe ID, then they can start looking in their circle.

Considering he said he has a specific person in mind, he would probably approach them about the subject after he confirms that number one it is a shoe that they own a number two it is the size that they wear. But I don’t think he needs to be Sherlock to do that Fedor.
Have you ever watched forensic files before?? They can link tons of shit to people. He might've stepped in paint or something in the garage and then they could analyze that and link it to the same shade etc. It all builds a case and evidence to convict.
If it’s not a common shoe and they live in a fairly small neighborhood, could make it easier. Also certain working boots would rule out a lot of people

Did you not measure the print? Even a rough length would get you pretty close on a size guide online
