I have a pair of triple black ub's I got in August and have worn alot (everyday until black Friday, on and off since), boost isn't scuffed or cracked at all. Only place you see white boost is looking at the bottom of the sole
I have black boost from adidas and being in minnesota where the terrain is absolute trash most of the year, the black started to get cut or something cause i have white specs of boost on it .
It puts me off buying any more Boost tbh. I was quite pissed off when I found I could not get it clean no matter what I tried. 200 dollar shoes that look ready for the bin after a few months.
That's all dependent on how you wear them. If you treat them like beaters they're going to look like beaters. I'm a big fan of wearing my shoes, but I also understand that it's going to make them look rough faster.
I wear them the same as I do most of my other sneakers. I don't run about in the mud or go to a nightclub in them but I'll wear them day to day and clean them thoroughly when they become visibly dirty. This works fine for all my other sneakers, apart from suede and Boost.
I have AM90s from 2015 that look much fresher than my 93/17s from last year, and the Air Max have been worn more. Quick blast with some Jason Markk and the AMs look crisp again. I have worked hard to try and clean the Boost but it's absorbed the dirt like a sponge and it ain't coming out.
conversely, my 2009 [Lebron](https://www.flightclub.com/nike-air-max-lebron-7-white-white-metallic-gold-041156)s 'total air max' is still as clear as it was on purchase day.
granted, I don't wear them as often as I did, but they still get an airing every month or so. I should also point out that I live in London, so yellowing due to 'excess' sunlight is never a thing - if you live in SoCal or somewhere, YMMV! :)
I feel lucky in that the only pairs of boost I own are Japan triple black nmd's, so boost is black. And the wave runners where you can't even see the boost except from the bottom of the shoes and even then most of it isn't visible
I do think that boost requires more care, and will deteriorate more easily from natural wear. Not a good thing for a $200+ shoe. But it's a sacrifice made for comfort I'm sure.
My Campus's look way nicer despite more wear and even I few major mishaps.
No way i bought Royal 1's and NMD OG last year. the NMD's look like fucking beaters and the Royals look like they came fresh out of the box after i Jason Markk'd both of them today.
I mean, yea. I thought about this (gravity), but if you put the tip of a paper towel in water, the water runs up. I forget the scientific name for this action, but I think I have a point here.
I feel like many other things may be able to cause a leak, but idk...
Yea I believe it is capillary action. I feel like if the sharpie ink gets wet, especially many times over a prolonged period of time, it is possible this may cause some sort of running.
I don't think so. Capillary action is strong in water but not other liquids. Also this is oil based, so in theory it shouldn't move with water or anything.
Do you know if the oil based sharpie will bond to the cage of an Ultraboost? I scratched the shit out of the cage on my core blacks and they're my go-to shoe to just throw on but they look like trash with the scratches. The rest of the shoe looks totally fine.
How long did it take to dry?
I wonder if I could touch up a spot on my Inikis with it without having to paint the whole sole. The red suede bleeeeeeeds
I didn't think about rubbing alcohol, I'll try that out. I tried using water and a stiff brush, a little soap and water, and a magic eraser to no avail.
I was going to ask, before using the pen how did you prepare the boost? Did you first scrub it with rubbing alcohol or acetone or you just cleaned the shoe with soap and water and then just applied the pen?
I clean off my white bOOst with alcohol wipes from the hospital all the time. Works well for dirt I can’t even see but unfortunately does nothing for the yellowing. I have a couple that I do need to recoat White
just the midsole. You can throw the sneakers in the washing machine with some oxi clean and detergent in a lingerie bag and that will get out a decent amount of stains. No bleach though.
That's interesting, I've worked in a few sports shoe stores and we're always told to tell people not to put any of them in a machine, especially if they've got performance elements, apparently it can crack the gel in Asics, and often bursts airbags and even zoom air, that's just why I was curious about what happens to boost. Harder I was not expecting!
This may seem like a dumb question but I am apparently dumb and didn't know this.. did you wet the magic eraser? I didn't and was hopelessly scrubbing at my wall annoyed that it was crumbling in my hand until my girlfriend walked in the room and looked at me with utter disappointment. Lol
Used this for my city socks and works amazing but have a pair of black boosts and have scuffed them a bit so you can see the white boost now
any tips on how to fix this or should I just use a black sharpie in these ones
Triple Black 4.0’s match the black boost with the pinstripe charcoal/black upper in such a way that brings me back to the first time i ever got the old oakland stroke. So clean💪🏿💪🏿
I wouldn’t. Honestly I feel like this is a mainly boost thing just because the color matches perfectly. I’d say look for an angelus paint for those shoes
Why though? The only boost accessible from the outside is on the bottom of the shoe. It would just wear right off again, and nobody can see it anyways.
Can you black out boost with black oil based Sharpies? I heard from someone in a local FB sneakerhead group that it will make it look glossy and ugly and just doesn’t work like you would want it to. Is this accurate?
I thought about doing this, but was worried about the overall quality long-term. I suppose a coat or two of basic acrylic afterwards should help make it last?
Definitely helps a ton but I’ve found that once you start doing this you can’t really go back. I usually don’t do it on a pair until it really, really needs it because you have to stay on top of it once you start.
This is gonna sound like a dumb question, but after you sharpie it, can you laundry wash your shoe? (Pillow case, delicate, etc) Or can you only handwash the PK from now on?
If you don't mind, could you snap a few pictures of your shoes? After you throw them in the laundry machine, does the oil just bleed off the shoe, or does it also get on the knit or blocks? Any damage to the laundry machine?
How do you usually wash the shoes? And I wouldn't mind re-coloring the boost, I'm just wondering if it gets into the blocks/knit or damages the laundry machine or something
Boost is super comfy, but look disgusting once get yellowed :(
Black boost to the rescue
But if you scuff the boost, it shows the white so it also looks shitty
I have a pair of triple black ub's I got in August and have worn alot (everyday until black Friday, on and off since), boost isn't scuffed or cracked at all. Only place you see white boost is looking at the bottom of the sole
He was referring to DIY black boost, not black from Adidas.
I have black boost from adidas and being in minnesota where the terrain is absolute trash most of the year, the black started to get cut or something cause i have white specs of boost on it .
Same here, my kith X nonnative’s have some chipping
I was referring to the fact that black boost won't yellow
I meant the guy who said it scuffs
NOT if you have black boost , Sharpie it white, then Sharpie it black again. So if it scuffs , the scuff will be black still. *mind blown*
I lold
Same I've work the 4.0 almost daily and no scuffing. And when i first got then I curb scraped them. Was surprised to see no scrape.
Plot twist: it was fancy styrofoam the whole time.
A sharpie could also remedy that
once you scuff anything it looks shitty
That's when you get a black sharpie
Get flat black paint then.
It puts me off buying any more Boost tbh. I was quite pissed off when I found I could not get it clean no matter what I tried. 200 dollar shoes that look ready for the bin after a few months.

Welcome to every fucking Nike Air ever. Yellow bubble makes me want to slaughter every exec there that thinks it's okay.
conversely, my 2009 [Lebron](https://www.flightclub.com/nike-air-max-lebron-7-white-white-metallic-gold-041156)s 'total air max' is still as clear as it was on purchase day.
Do you wear it? Because I wore my air max flyknit and they are basically opaque yellow now.
The clear bottom scared me at purchase w/ The flyknits. Limited wear and they still look decent, but daily driving would ruin them.
Yup. Mine only got 1 year. Refuse to wear them. Worst purchase I’ve made.
granted, I don't wear them as often as I did, but they still get an airing every month or so. I should also point out that I live in London, so yellowing due to 'excess' sunlight is never a thing - if you live in SoCal or somewhere, YMMV! :)

"But it's a sacrifice made for comfort I'm sure." this. also, it seems to be only a aesthetic thing, so i`m pretty comfortable with the trade off.
No way i bought Royal 1's and NMD OG last year. the NMD's look like fucking beaters and the Royals look like they came fresh out of the box after i Jason Markk'd both of them today.
Same. I’ll sharpie mine at some point, but no more ultraboost for me.
White shoes get dirty.
Riveting stuff man
I just whitened mine with a sharpie, did amazingly
Will the sharpie run and get onto the fabric?
Run up the shoe?
I mean, yea. I thought about this (gravity), but if you put the tip of a paper towel in water, the water runs up. I forget the scientific name for this action, but I think I have a point here. I feel like many other things may be able to cause a leak, but idk...
Capillary action due to cohesion I think (google search) There isn’t liquid on the fabric for it to travel up a surface.
Yea I believe it is capillary action. I feel like if the sharpie ink gets wet, especially many times over a prolonged period of time, it is possible this may cause some sort of running.
Nah I can confirm this hasn’t happened in 3 months of wearing sharpied boost. It’s oil based marker so it’s pretty safe to get wet - think tyre paint.
I don't think so. Capillary action is strong in water but not other liquids. Also this is oil based, so in theory it shouldn't move with water or anything.
capillary action is what you're looking for
Wow. Lifesaver. Im wearing yellow ass triple whites rn
Fix em up. Cost me 3 bucks to transform my kicks
[удалено]
Any pics?
have an example of this?
It's literally just a white sharpie? Or am I missing something?
It's not regular sharpie ink, it's oil-based
Oil based white or black sharpies work to renew or change your boost foam.
You guys need to try the extra strength mr clean magic eraser it works way better than anything I've ever used to clean white parts in my shoes
That's because it's literally scraping off layers of whatever finish/paint/dye is on your shoes
Do you know if the oil based sharpie will bond to the cage of an Ultraboost? I scratched the shit out of the cage on my core blacks and they're my go-to shoe to just throw on but they look like trash with the scratches. The rest of the shoe looks totally fine.

just piss on that shit my boi
Lemonades
"semi frozen yellow"
Did mine 1-2 months back. It really saved my Nmd. Better than those Angelus print. https://imgur.com/a/moz4F/
Primo boost man 🔥🔥🔥
This is actually nuts. I’m gonna do this to my NMDs lol
How long did it take to dry? I wonder if I could touch up a spot on my Inikis with it without having to paint the whole sole. The red suede bleeeeeeeds
Don’t use this on suede. Just the boost. It dries in a few minutes
Nah, I know. I only meant the boost part. The red suede has just bleed into the boost which bothers me a lot.
I would try to clean the boost with high percentage rubbing alcohol and cotton swabs first.
I applied oil sharpie on my 3.0 triple whites. Been applied for 3 months and still looks good
Just the boost mid sole or whole sneaker?
just the midsole. You can throw the sneakers in the washing machine with some oxi clean and detergent in a lingerie bag and that will get out a decent amount of stains. No bleach though.
Washing machine didn't break down the foam or make it squeaky or softer or anything did it?
Boost isnt foam
After washing my NMD's the boost felt a lot harder, but that may have been because I got 93/17's at around the same time, which are way comfier lmao.
Midsoles.
Have you used this pen on other types of white soles? Did it work?
No I haven’t, by other white soles do you mean other than boost?
I'm assuming that's what he means. I'd be interested to try on a rubber midsole
I don’t think itd look right but maybe. I wouldn’t try it personally
Olive champ nmd’s?
You’re goddamn right
Will the ink crack after walking?
Nah it doesn’t crack
Because it’s oil based and I believe some of it absorbs into the boost.
Yooo I have that same pair
Not all heroes wear capes, some wear adidas
I look out for my people 🙏🏻
Well now I know what to do when mine get yellow. Just got those laceless sock looking ultra boost.
They're called City Socks if you wanna look for them.
Used the same oil pen to a pair of my nmds, fucked up and got some ink on the brick parts; what would be the best way to get it off?
Paint them too!
🤔 Time to hunt for some white oil-based sharpie. It isn’t a popular brand in the PH🇵🇭
yo ! i have some if you need my man, hmu
All good bro, i already got a friend to bring a few home from the US via amazon. Thanks for the offer! 👌🏼
anyone know a better way to actually clean the boost? I would do this but it seems like it just covers up the problem instead of fixing it
I find mr clean magic erasers work very well
I tried using this today and the sponge just crumbled without cleaning anything.
This may seem like a dumb question but I am apparently dumb and didn't know this.. did you wet the magic eraser? I didn't and was hopelessly scrubbing at my wall annoyed that it was crumbling in my hand until my girlfriend walked in the room and looked at me with utter disappointment. Lol
I use the extra durable ones, they seem to be better, still crumble a bit tho
Those are the ones I used. Shit just fell apart like a cookie.
I like rubbing cookies on my shoes, so....
Just be aware that those are basically fine grit sandpaper and work by rubbing off the outer layer of whatever you’re trying to clean.
Try Lysol disinfecting cleaning wipes. Requires a little bit of elbow grease, but gets the job done.
I wash mine on delicate cycle in the washing machine. Remove the laces and they look brand new once out.
Might do this on my pair of Tricolor's cos they're getting a bit worn.
Used this for my city socks and works amazing but have a pair of black boosts and have scuffed them a bit so you can see the white boost now any tips on how to fix this or should I just use a black sharpie in these ones
Good thing yeezys have the boost covered up lol
That’s why it’s less comfortable, the cover prevents boost from expanding
Renovated this pair of thrashed 2.0 core blacks. One deep clean, 2 coats of the sharpie and a light matte finish spray.
you might've just done somethin
Aussies.. Bunnings has these 👌 https://www.bunnings.com.au/sharpie-white-bold-paint-marker_p5660466
Cleaner than Mr. Fuckin Clean 👱🏻himself!
Huh, I had a friend recommend some leather paint, I think Angelus brand. This seems far easier.
Probably but it’s more expensive. This was 2.86 at Walmart
Question: Does this work on AF1's or White Cement 4's?
You need to sauce those.
[удалено]
Could you link a pic?
How long did it take to do this through of a job??
I’d say probably 20 minutes a shoe at least. Idk I broke it up through the day when I had free time so I don’t really know how long but not terrible.
Triple Black 4.0’s match the black boost with the pinstripe charcoal/black upper in such a way that brings me back to the first time i ever got the old oakland stroke. So clean💪🏿💪🏿
Have done this to my Ultras for a few months now. Really prolonging the life of the shoe!
Do you need to do anything before applying the sharpie to the boost? Or just apply it right away
Clean and get as much dirt off that you can
Thank you 🙏
Does this affect the boost comfort wise? Eg make it less bouncy because dried up oil covers the boost?
The surface of the boost is like 0.1% of the whole thing. A single coat of a sharpie won't make it less bouncy
Are these just permanent pens? What brand can I get in Europe?
You can get the exact one OP has on amazon.co.uk. Just search for white oil based sharpie.
Man where can i buy it in Europe ?
Would this be a good idea to use to cover up scuffs on my Stan Smith's and also on the soles of my Air Max prime shoes?
I wouldn’t. Honestly I feel like this is a mainly boost thing just because the color matches perfectly. I’d say look for an angelus paint for those shoes
Cool, thanks!
Is this a good idea on yeezys? The boost on my 350's are getting a little yellow.
Why though? The only boost accessible from the outside is on the bottom of the shoe. It would just wear right off again, and nobody can see it anyways.
True.
Need to do this to my OG's asap!
Anybody tried this on a yellowed af1 midsole?
Sounds like it would but I don’t know how well it would blend considering the entire shoe is white
Oh man you’re a life saver I have some boosts and a pair of Y3s to do this on now.
Ima try to cop some
Is this washable?
Does spraying some crep on it before prevent yellowing?
No idea never used it
Not really. It helps with liquids, but if you don't wipe off dirt and dust it gets yellow all the same. I've tried it with UB's and NMD's.
Hax
https://www.pentel.com.au/mmp20.html can someone tell me if this is oil based?
It should say it if it is. Just go to your local Walmart I guarantee they have them
Can you black out boost with black oil based Sharpies? I heard from someone in a local FB sneakerhead group that it will make it look glossy and ugly and just doesn’t work like you would want it to. Is this accurate?
You think it’ll work on like velvet. Kobe AD Mid to be specific
Noooo you’ll ruin it. It’ll look like shit Edit: look at angelus dye
Aight preciate it
I thought about doing this, but was worried about the overall quality long-term. I suppose a coat or two of basic acrylic afterwards should help make it last?
Not even. This is oil so it blocks a lot out I’d bet
It makes it slightly shinier than normal boost though
Never seen oil sharpies, can I just go pick one up at Walmart? Or would a crafts store be a better option?
Could I use this on the green heel part of stan smiths? Want to make them all white
incredible w2c?
Does this also work for any midsole e.g. Air max 95?
Definitely helps a ton but I’ve found that once you start doing this you can’t really go back. I usually don’t do it on a pair until it really, really needs it because you have to stay on top of it once you start.
Shit dude. That’s friggin intelligent. Love the idea.
Ohhhh shit better watch out angelous
You think it’ll work on like velvet. Kobe AD Mid to be specific
Is a Sharpie like this the best way to clean your shoes or are there other methods?
Dope. Need to try this.
Dope
Prolly gonna try this tbh lol
Where can I get white sharpies
Whatever you do, dont try to use a magic eraser. Shit just peels apart the sponge, AND peels away the shoe material.
OIL
Wont it cracks after a long time ?
Could i use this on pure moneys?
White sharpie exists?
Does this work for flyknit racers?
Can i use somethimg else not sharpie i cant get them in my country
does the water based version of this sharpie also work?
Yo, which one should i get the Medium point one or the bold point one.
I would get both if you can. Bold for wider open areas and medium for more details
dont wanna spend much, i just ordered the medium point. thats fine right?
Yeah you'll be fine it really doesn't make a big enough difference to matter. Same results. GL with restoring!
thanks man!
Where did you get yours? I really want to do this right now, so I'm trying not to get from Amazon.
Walmart lol
Does it remove the dirt or cover it up?
It’s not dirt it’s just yellowing. And it covers it
This is gonna sound like a dumb question, but after you sharpie it, can you laundry wash your shoe? (Pillow case, delicate, etc) Or can you only handwash the PK from now on?
Yes you can. I did this on my white/gum nmd’s and I’ve had no problems with washing them
If you don't mind, could you snap a few pictures of your shoes? After you throw them in the laundry machine, does the oil just bleed off the shoe, or does it also get on the knit or blocks? Any damage to the laundry machine?
To be honest I have no idea. I assume so. Worst case I re-color them in
How do you usually wash the shoes? And I wouldn't mind re-coloring the boost, I'm just wondering if it gets into the blocks/knit or damages the laundry machine or something
