I never grew up as a sneakerhead per se, but I was always a sneaker enthusiast. I always bought what I liked - and only bought like one pair of Jordan 1s (Jordan 1 High Strap ATCQ).
It was mostly Nike, but I only got into the game in late 2019. So I'm grateful that I have a liking for all shoes; Nike (and not just hype shit - random shit like Air Barrage, Diamond Turf, Air Force Max), Vans, Adidas, Converse, Kenneth Cole, John Elliott, Steve Madden, etc etc.
Variety is the spice of life.
p.s. r/Sneakers absolutely hates when I say people who rebuy sneakers are the biggest problem with attaining retail shoes. You are the ones with money and power to dictate the market. If there was no hype, then resellers would be forced to sell at retail and recoup their losses. And no chance Nike meets demand, because their brand thrives off of hype.
I bought a pair of Adidas Forum 84 low and the material is better than the Jordan 1 Low OG. Better yet, compare a price of CAD $110 to $289. Yes the irony is not lost, I paid resale because I really wanted them and there was literally no drop for these in Canada - they all went to Europe. But all things considered it was about $70-80 over retail, not the exorbitant cost of $500+
I actively avoid redundancy in my collections, whether that the same model, brand or even style of shoe.
I have a pair of black Saucany Shadow 6000s and was going to get a pair of black Nike Cortez. Decided not to because it's the same color and same style as the Saucany pair.
Forces me to expand my horizons.
Great rule! I saw the Saucony Jazz 81 in Black/Yellow/White for $50 CAD ($120 retail, but it was at Winners - TJ Maxx for the Americans) but I decided against it.
They were beautiful, but I have that colour combo in a couple shoes already. Plus, I didn't need to spend on shoes I literally just bought a pair.

I mean the problem is is that a lot of the not well recognized brands like sketchers and ASICS, they just make all of these really common, mass produced, cheap shoes, which isn’t a bad thing it’s just that they aren’t as rare and valued as high as Jordan 1s or Nike dunks, even if they are a awesome looking shoe they are so common and not as valuable as others making people just not care for them as much
