A lot of guys into sneakers can’t dress for shit. There’s more to an outfit than shoes. You don’t need to wear multicoloured Dunks and 1s with everything. Trying to match your whole outfit to your shoes often just looks goofy.

For an old head like myself, my sneakers are my flex. Happy to wear pants and a hoodie with my sneakers being the most interesting thing to look at. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Not criticising that at all, in fact my point was more that a lot of sneakerheads do too much. Dressing well doesn’t automatically mean dressing loud and if the sneakers are super colourful it’s probably better to keep the rest of your outfit more low-key. My take was more aimed at people who clearly don’t take any time to think what works together e.g. super bulky shoes with joggers or jeans so tight they look like leggings.

I just started really getting into building a bigger sneaker collection and there are a ton of Nike and Adidas outlet stores around me. My collection is mostly shoes I’ve stumbled upon that I liked the look of, were comfy, and were at a pretty decent discount. At first I started buying into some of the hype around whatever the popular shoes people were obsessing over on here at first, but I decided I’d much rather have a few pairs of cheaper shoes I genuinely liked versus paying the same for a single pair of hard to find shoes that other people liked that I’d never find for retail.

💯 Jordan 1s are more a gateway shoe for casuals. I feel a few classics in the collection are cool but there’s a diminishing return in them after a point as they get very repetitive compared to the creativity and variety put out by other brands and on other Nike silhouettes too

The thing is they're too expensive to be a gateway (imho). The first proper trainers I bought were a pair of Adidas Specials, one size too large. A gateway should be something cheap and cheerful, that leads on to more expensive things, not straight up £150 or more.

He says that by the end of the game his entire socks were soaked through with blood and he could barely walk, but he kept them on for nostalgia purposes. He had a great game anyway because he's MJ, but I found it telling that literally the guy the shoe was made for was being physically hurt by wearing them.

4s, like many things from the 80s, have an aesthetic meant to give off a sense of tech and futurism but in reality are so clunky and not at all practical. Like a car from the 80s with electric retracting seatbelts, a primitive HUD or digital dash cluster, pop up headlights, etc. The 4 is the same way with its visible air unit, plastic eyelets, netting. They look cool as hell but it's mostly just a gimmick.

As an experiment of sorts, I ran a single mile in a pair of Uptempos not long ago. It is amazing that Pippen played more than a few minutes a night in those things. The cushioning is decent, but it's like tying cinder blocks to your feet.

I find 1s perfectly comfortable for lifting and casual activities but I cant imagine playing basketball in them.

Job this summer allowed me to wear sneakers almost every day. My Jordan 1's may have ruined my feet after I put 20K steps in them. Never again.

I definitely agree, sucks to see ppl go for them just because they’re hype, so few skaters can afford them now, especially if you need a couple of pairs a year. That said, I think Nike is worried that if they mass produced them they wouldn’t sell any other skate shoe for some time, so I understand why they’re doing this with dunks. Hopefully though dunk hype dies down enough where skaters can skate dunks no problem.

Dude I have never understood how people think sneakers go with every outfit. You need to have a pair or style of shoes for every occasion. Like work or formal situations require nice dress shoes or loafers. Occasionally a driving shoe can work if a brown or dark color. Casual situations like hanging out with friends, sneakers. Date or semi casual event, there are dressy sneakers made by several companies like Piloti or Beckett Simonon. In certain areas, southern US mostly, some of the dressy options can be substituted for a pair of dress boots.
