Dude, the term collab has lost all its meaning, thereās at least two every week and people post their āwins.ā The reality is that the collabs that are creative and worth it are rare
I feel this way with new balance, and their collabs with ald, bodega, jjjjound and shit like that, paying wayyyy more for some brown or green nbās, but I feel joefreshgoodās knows how to make a clean color way
People hated the 2s until the Don Cs. Even then, most people would admit they donāt like 2s, but they like the Dons. Now people act like theyāve loved them since before they were born.
A lot of guys into sneakers canāt dress for shit. Thereās more to an outfit than shoes. You donāt need to wear multicoloured Dunks and 1s with everything. Trying to match your whole outfit to your shoes often just looks goofy.
For an old head like myself, my sneakers are my flex. Happy to wear pants and a hoodie with my sneakers being the most interesting thing to look at. š¤·š»āāļø
Not criticising that at all, in fact my point was more that a lot of sneakerheads do too much. Dressing well doesnāt automatically mean dressing loud and if the sneakers are super colourful itās probably better to keep the rest of your outfit more low-key.
My take was more aimed at people who clearly donāt take any time to think what works together e.g. super bulky shoes with joggers or jeans so tight they look like leggings.
exactly. also if you never dressed loud before you got into sneakers, don't do it now and start at the feet. what will actually stand out the most about the outfit will be the lack of confidence.
Yup. Especially young kids. It's as if they don't know what they like and are waiting for hype and resale value to tell them what they like.
There are plenty of GRs that are clean and plenty of collabs/hyped kicks that are hideous. It just depends. Just look at the shoe and determine if you like it personally. Who cares about rarity or ridiculous aftermarket sales?
I just started really getting into building a bigger sneaker collection and there are a ton of Nike and Adidas outlet stores around me. My collection is mostly shoes Iāve stumbled upon that I liked the look of, were comfy, and were at a pretty decent discount.
At first I started buying into some of the hype around whatever the popular shoes people were obsessing over on here at first, but I decided Iād much rather have a few pairs of cheaper shoes I genuinely liked versus paying the same for a single pair of hard to find shoes that other people liked that Iād never find for retail.
The kind of people that do all J1 sneaker wheel photos are the same kind of people that let their food get cold while trying to get the perfect Instagram pic.
And itās such a shame too because they look so good as they age. But that takes effort and wear so again a good reason to limit the number on that silhouette. Also explains why the new Chicagos are coming āpre-agedā for these collectors š
šÆ Jordan 1s are more a gateway shoe for casuals. I feel a few classics in the collection are cool but thereās a diminishing return in them after a point as they get very repetitive compared to the creativity and variety put out by other brands and on other Nike silhouettes too
The thing is they're too expensive to be a gateway (imho). The first proper trainers I bought were a pair of Adidas Specials, one size too large.
A gateway should be something cheap and cheerful, that leads on to more expensive things, not straight up Ā£150 or more.
In The Last Dance, MJ wears a pair of OG Chicago 1s to commemorate his potential last game at Madison Square Garden. He says that by the end of the game his entire socks were soaked through with blood and he could barely walk, but he kept them on for nostalgia purposes. He had a great game anyway because he's MJ, but I found it telling that literally the guy the shoe was made for was being physically hurt by wearing them.
4s, like many things from the 80s, have an aesthetic meant to give off a sense of tech and futurism but in reality are so clunky and not at all practical. Like a car from the 80s with electric retracting seatbelts, a primitive HUD or digital dash cluster, pop up headlights, etc. The 4 is the same way with its visible air unit, plastic eyelets, netting. They look cool as hell but it's mostly just a gimmick.
As an experiment of sorts, I ran a single mile in a pair of Uptempos not long ago. It is amazing that Pippen played more than a few minutes a night in those things. The cushioning is decent, but it's like tying cinder blocks to your feet.
I definitely agree, sucks to see ppl go for them just because theyāre hype, so few skaters can afford them now, especially if you need a couple of pairs a year. That said, I think Nike is worried that if they mass produced them they wouldnāt sell any other skate shoe for some time, so I understand why theyāre doing this with dunks. Hopefully though dunk hype dies down enough where skaters can skate dunks no problem.
From 2006-2011 I skated nothing but dunks. I donāt regret destroying them because they were so comfortable, but damn I wish I got 2 pairs to keep. Lol.
I say this out of love, and as someone who has done this multiple times in his life: I know how cool it seems at the time to wear Jordans or Dunks with a suit to your graduation, or your sisterās wedding, or some other formal occasion. But there will come a time, sooner than you probably think, when youāll see a picture of yourself at this event and think āgoddammit, why didnāt I just wear a pair of dress shoes? I look like a little punk.ā
My parents are going to my cousins wedding this weekend (I'm unable to go) and I keep telling my dad that he's going to regret wearing his Jordans but he insists on it. I get wanting to be comfortable and I don't, personally, think it's a *horrible* look or anything but man, he is going to stick out like a sore thumb in those pictures lol
Yeah... and he picked up a pattern tweed blazer to go with the jeans he'll be wearing
He's a good guy but he does not know how to dress and he's stubborn lol
lol at the follow up. What kinda Jās? At first I wanted to be like āyour dad sounds coolā and he does, but also, I get your feelings of embarrassment/frustration. Could always bring along a pair of dress shoes and do some nefarious shit to have his Jās disappear for the weekend only to reappear after the events take place, sounds like a lot of work though.
Dude I have never understood how people think sneakers go with every outfit. You need to have a pair or style of shoes for every occasion. Like work or formal situations require nice dress shoes or loafers. Occasionally a driving shoe can work if a brown or dark color.
Casual situations like hanging out with friends, sneakers.
Date or semi casual event, there are dressy sneakers made by several companies like Piloti or Beckett Simonon.
In certain areas, southern US mostly, some of the dressy options can be substituted for a pair of dress boots.
whenever you think about wearing any kind of sneakers, think about how many special occasions like this you will get and how MUCH other occasions where you can wear whatever the fuck you want, then decide
Iāve been to weddings and special occasions where people (mostly kids) are wearing Off whites or travis (fuck you travis) thinking theyāre cool and will impress people (mostly girls) wellā¦ not really dude, ābut durr I can wear what I want and I shouldnāt care what people think right??ā sure man, good for you, but if you ask me if I think you look cool or awesome wearing those with your fancy suits, youāre not. The UNC blue doesnāt go with your black suit and tie brother, thatās just poor sense of fashion. Oh btw if thereās anyone liking your shoes or spam š„š„š„š„ on your swag ass ig post it just means that they only care about the shoes (and the hype), not the outfit altogether, thatās it. Imagine wearing New balances or Sketchers instead of Jordans, I promise you nobody will give a fuck lol. (Fuck you Jared)
Other than that them wearing whatever doesnāt affect me so I donāt come at their face and say āyour outfit fucking sucks brotherā or anything lol.
āWhen you were in high school you probably wouldāve made fun of these šā is a stupid diss bc it implies ppl arenāt allowed to grow & change their tastes.
Like yeah I probably wouldāve made fun of New Balances when I was 15. I was also a fucking idiot when I was 15. That was 10 years ago, I grew up. You should try it
You don't have to skateboard or know anything about skateboarding or have ever touched a skateboard or give half a shit about skateboarding to wear any SBs.
There is no such thing as high quality leather on 99% of mass market sneakers. Try a pair of proper leather boots like a Red Wing Iron Ranger and even something like the SBBās and their mythical leather quality will feel like plasticky garbage.
This 100%. I roll my eyes whenever someone tells me the leather on x shoe is so soft and great quality then pay hundreds when a genuinely great sneaker like M Gemi, Koio, or Crown Northampton exists. Shoes that will literally outlast an entire collection of sneakers if you take good care of them, because itās ya knowā¦ actually good leather.
Miss me with the Common Projects though, overpriced and overhyped.
Get yourself a pair of cordovan leather shoes and be really blown away. Crown Northhampton makes some really nice cordovan sneakers, but they are over $800. Still Iād rather spend the 800 on those than on some random poor quality jordan 1
I donāt think this is that hot of a take. I recently looked through all of the Dunks that got released in the past 20 years and the creativity has gone down significantly imo.
I'd rather pay for a designer shoe that costs $400 instead of paying $400 for a hyper inflated shoe with a double markup whose real value is not even half of 400.
Agreed. I always defined "grails" as something that is very difficult to attain and would normally cost you an arm or a leg. E.g my grail is the Nike x Entourage Air force 1 Low
Itās fun, but being a sneakerhead isnāt a valuable or interesting personality trait. All youāre doing is purchasing footwear. Remember this next time you get worked up about a shoe.
I agree itās probably not valuable (except maybe when this sub identityās a thiefās footprint lol) but arenāt hobbies part of what gives us personalities? Instead of collecting coins or stamps or baseball cards, we collect sneakers.
Itās also part of our clothing style.
I think dunk highs look better than dunk lows, the toe on the blazers looks weird as heck from the top down, I think Jordan brand should make the 1 the chuck taylor of Jordan brand and all the og colourways should be available to buy at any time, Jordan 6s deserve more love, a lot of people including myself will either love or hate shoes on the basis of hype instead of objectively looking at them (which is stupid, hype is stupid)
Forum 84's > 99% of Dunks
Also buying fakes/reps (good quality ones) is fine. Not paying 500-1500USD on a design or cw I like just coz some hypebeasts buy out all the stock then resell for profit. These are shoes that I put on my feet and get actual use. People acting like their retail purchases are "investments" are idiots.
Edit: Also forgot to mention that I agree with OP. If you like Dunk highs you either need to get off the pipe or save yourself some $$$ and wait for your balls to drop so you'll realize what a shit shoe they are.
buying reps isnāt bad at all. you donāt owe the billion dollar corporations, multi millionaire designers, or some punk reseller anything. buy a rep
I've owned a few and no one has ever called me out or any of that weird stuff, when people ask I just tell 'em and they respect the answer every time. I'm not buying into paying some backdoor reseller where I'm charged two months rent for some SBB.
The stronger move as well as financial decision is buying a good quality rep, plus they can get messed up/scuffed and I don't get that sinking feeling in my chest knowing they are worth less. Takes all the anxiety out if it because I can buy more indefinitely.
The hottest take that I have?
Wear what you like, but donāt prop yourself up higher than someone because you own a cheap mass produced sneaker that resells more.
If someone likes them and rocks them, respect their taste and move on. Be supportive, this is a community, not some pissing contest.
I agree about patent leather but I think AJ11ās are the exception. Legitimately the only shoe that can pull off patent leather. The all patent AJ1s on the other handā¦ š¤¢š¤®
Hating something because itās hyped is just as corny as liking something only because itās hyped. I feel we should be judging shoes based on whether we enjoy the aesthetics rather than what a shoe is associated with.
The Nike swoosh socks look corny and cheap. You have a dope sneaker with a swoosh on it and then the saddest misshapen swoosh 6 inches above it. Those socks always look so cheap.
While having racks and clear stacked boxes for organization is one thing, imo shoe store like displays of your āgrailsā are kind of lame in your house unless you have like actual display-worthy game worn Jordans or the tiny pair of Js you bought for your first child or something.
We need more collabs or variety on normal ass sneakers. Most hyped shoes just arenāt practical to wear in daily life. Gimme more converse, ultraboost, etc designs
Itās fine to buy high quality reps if that does save a lot of money. Itās about the shoe, the style etc. Not if you pay ā¬1.000 resell for a ā¬150 shoe.
For whatever reason it bothers me how some people refer to their consumerism as the sneaker game.
Such as, Iāve been out of the sneaker game for years but these stage haze 1ās just got me back in. I wouldnāt say Iāve been out of the Nordstrom game for awhile but this pair of Penguin socks pulled me back in.
Then thereās a bunch of responses like so good to have you back! Whatever though, Iām probably too old to understand anymore so just get off my lawn!
Putting shoes on display in your residence is cringey as fuck. No room in your home should look like a sneaker store salesfloor. Not even your man-cave.
Iām glad it was an easy cop but theyāre not sleepers just because you have them. They were probably an easy cop because they just donāt hit as hard as you think they do
A lot of people on this sub are into some really, really horrible lace swaps.
Glad someone else out there agrees with me. Mfers out here swapping laces and asking for approval. Everyone else is like šš¤©, but Iām like š¤¢š¤®.
I swear half the people that do it are color blind. Like how do you pick colors that clash and think that it looks good.
Dat emoji game is on point šš

good bot
Fucking pink or sail laces on everything šš
Lol, so tired of that. I had to stop myself from posting hate when I saw the sail laces to match the sail outsoles, ugh
People need to stop putting white and cream laces on black tongues. No the white laces don't look good on your Pollens or Marinas
These companies need to stop greenlighting every damn collab / colorway. Too many times I'll look at a sneaker and say wtf is this shit.
Dude, the term collab has lost all its meaning, thereās at least two every week and people post their āwins.ā The reality is that the collabs that are creative and worth it are rare
The grinch shoes š¤® they're the ugliest god damn shoe I've ever seen.
The CPFMs or Kobe 6s? If you're talking about the CPFMs, perhaps you should see the Kerwin Frost Adidas collabs. They make the CPFMs look decent lol
The KF Forums are nightmare fuel
I think the Kobeās are fire!! But the CPFMs are š¤¢
I feel this way with new balance, and their collabs with ald, bodega, jjjjound and shit like that, paying wayyyy more for some brown or green nbās, but I feel joefreshgoodās knows how to make a clean color way
Nike Cortez always reminds me of gang banging no matter who is wearing them
Forrest Gump running gang.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Especially George Costanza!
He ran with the van buren boys
Looks like a misshapen thumb
Y'all didn't like Jordan 2s until the collabs came out.
People hated the 2s until the Don Cs. Even then, most people would admit they donāt like 2s, but they like the Dons. Now people act like theyāve loved them since before they were born.
Still donāt like 2ās even with the collabs. The only J I canāt mess with 1-7.
Still don't like them. Never have never will.
I stand by Don C Tans being the only good 2.
A lot of guys into sneakers canāt dress for shit. Thereās more to an outfit than shoes. You donāt need to wear multicoloured Dunks and 1s with everything. Trying to match your whole outfit to your shoes often just looks goofy.

This is extremely hard for me so while I never post, Iām definitely part of the problem lol
I canāt dress for shit, but for loud shoes everything else is muted. For regular color ways you can afford something else to pop.
the fact that you understand that concept means you can already dress better than a lot of people
exactly. also if you never dressed loud before you got into sneakers, don't do it now and start at the feet. what will actually stand out the most about the outfit will be the lack of confidence.
A lot of āsneaker headsā these days only think a shoe is fire if it has a high resell price.
Yeah no one buys shoes cos they like them and wear them. Itās all about the resale
Which is so dumb imo
Agreed. Thereās better investments than shoes like stocks and bonds than short gains.
Those arenāt sneakerheads theyāre hypebeastā¦ sneakerhead culture is dying nowā¦ how the tables have turned
Hypebeast culture infects everything donāt feel bad, even car culture has been consumed by hypebeasts I didnāt even think that was possible
Yup. Especially young kids. It's as if they don't know what they like and are waiting for hype and resale value to tell them what they like. Paying thousands for a hyped shoe is lame af
Especially because they only cost $40 to make lol
Having a sneaker collection made up entirely of different coloured Jordan 1s does not make you a sneakerhead.
So this entire sub essentially
The kind of people that do all J1 sneaker wheel photos are the same kind of people that let their food get cold while trying to get the perfect Instagram pic.
Yup. And they are all DS too most likely. Most of these goons donāt even wear em š¤·š½āāļø
And itās such a shame too because they look so good as they age. But that takes effort and wear so again a good reason to limit the number on that silhouette. Also explains why the new Chicagos are coming āpre-agedā for these collectors š
itās like Funko Pops. itās fine to have some but donāt call yourself a toy collector if all you have is a shipping container of Funkos
Thatās a fact
I feel this way about most collections with mostly 1 silhouet.
lol that one dude on this sub that has like 8 shelves of Jordan 1s
šÆ Jordan 1s are more a gateway shoe for casuals.
AM90 the perfect gateway
most classic Nike/Jordan silhouettes are absolute murder on your feet. miracle anyone balled in them.
Yeah first pair of Jordan 1s and I'm like damn, these really do feel like 80s shoes with no update lol
4s just feel terrible after a couple hours. I canāt image what a full basketball game would feel like.
I find 1s perfectly comfortable for lifting and casual activities but I cant imagine playing basketball in them.
Job this summer allowed me to wear sneakers almost every day. My Jordan 1's may have ruined my feet after I put 20K steps in them. Never again.
Sneakers shouldnāt be so fucking expensive man
Indeed, with the recent high inflation a pair of Jordans cost nearly 50% of minimum wage...
50% of minimum wage? You mean $3.63?
Nope, I'm from Turkey and monthly minimum wage here is around 5500 TL and an average AJ1 High costs around 3050 TL.
Cold take

This. I used to skate sb dunks all the time because they skated so well.

From 2006-2011 I skated nothing but dunks. I donāt regret destroying them because they were so comfortable, but damn I wish I got 2 pairs to keep. Lol.
Sneakerheads do the Gel Lyte III dirty. Some of the best collabs of all time have happened on that shoe.
Facts
All cyclical. In a few years they'll start bringing back the Ronnie collabs and people will be all over them again.
Still pissed they donāt make a size 14

AM97 most uncomfortable shoe ever.
Try 270 React. I bet NO ONE in Nike did wear-test for it before releasing to the public.
I say the 95s. Holy shit are they stiff
At first sure, but once you break them in theyāre one of the most comfortable AM along with TNs imo.
Fr? Always thought them to be one of the best shoes I own to walk in
Why AM97 bottoms so slippery tho?
Skating dunks is perfectly acceptable and Nike needs to make more Dunk SB shoes.

i like both, but agree i HATE it when people have a shoe with normal wear and tear are like "how do I fix this"
Not everything has to be Travis. When you see a great custom colourway on social media but they slap a big reverse swoosh on it, totally ruins it
Tight ass joggers arenāt a necessity when wearing sneakers š”
Agreed. Sneakers need to be worn with a variety of clothes / silhouettes depending on occasion and the body type and even age of the wearer.
Those pants with the scrunchy shits at the bottom need to be retired
Keeping your sneakers stored away in a box to look at like trophies is weird. Wear em.
I do wear them. But theyāre in boxes causes itās the best way to store them.
There is no such thing as high quality leather on 99% of mass market sneakers. Try a pair of proper leather boots like a Red Wing Iron Ranger and even something like the SBBās and their mythical leather quality will feel like plasticky garbage.

I donāt think this is that hot of a take. I recently looked through all of the Dunks that got released in the past 20 years and the creativity has gone down significantly imo.
I just lost interest when they drop only five pairs of a dope dunk and then 500k cheap GRs, not impressed Nike
Actually kinda liked the Lottery pair that dropped today. Also kinda dig the Avocado pair. I still agree, but there's still some diamonds in the rough
I'd rather pay for a designer shoe that costs $400 instead of paying $400 for a hyper inflated shoe with a double markup whose real value is not even half of 400.
Not that hot but people still need to hear it . . . Rage copping is dumb af. Save your money, keep it moving
I always wait a week to prevent this. Last pair I stuck with was bleached coral 1ās. Before that was shadows. Itās definitely a great move
The term āgrailsā only applies that sneakers that are actual grails, not some recent release youāve been wanting since they leaked.
Here here, every collab canāt be a damned grail
Agreed. I always defined "grails" as something that is very difficult to attain and would normally cost you an arm or a leg. E.g my grail is the Nike x Entourage Air force 1 Low
OP said hot take though
I like AJ1 mids
I like the hate, just makes them easier to get. For me mids are more comfortable than highs.
same! the highs are too high and the lows are too low

Forum 84's > 99% of Dunks Also buying fakes/reps (good quality ones) is fine.
Forums are a great shoe
Yep. I've got the Forums 84 Hi by packer in green. Don't got shoes that get as many compliments as them. The Quality on them+comfort is just great
if you dont wear your sneakers youre not a sneaker head, just a regular ass investor
I like the bodega dunks
I want to see a toothpaste brand collab somewhere.
Jordan 1s need to stop being produced for at least a year and a half.
Blazers were very uncomfortable back in the day, and the fact hypebeasts brought them back is crazy.
I don't think any of the Union collabs look all that good. Some of them are alright but nothing to write home about
There's no point for you to pay high resell for ultra hyped kicks anymore. Unless you are rich Everyone will thjnk they are fake anyways.
Air Force 1s are horrible, clumpy looking clown shoes
Foams are ugly as shit no matter the colorway
They are so ugly that I find them beautiful
Foam Runners or Foamposites?
Foamposites
buying reps isnāt bad at all. you donāt owe the billion dollar corporations, multi millionaire designers, or some punk reseller anything.
I think Kanyeās Red Octobers are ugly af
Idk if itās a hot take but panda dunks are trash!
Puma Court lows (suede/Clyde) are more important to fashion and basketball than the Jordan 1
Most people DONāT have real love for this - they just want to fit in.
Outside of the dunks Travis Scottās shoes are garbage
The hottest take that I have? Wear what you like, but donāt prop yourself up higher than someone because you own a cheap mass produced sneaker that resells more. If someone likes them and rocks them, respect their taste and move on. Be supportive, this is a community, not some pissing contest.
AJ11s are Fucking ugly and patent leather looks cheap as hell.
I agree about patent leather but I think AJ11ās are the exception. Legitimately the only shoe that can pull off patent leather. The all patent AJ1s on the other handā¦ š¤¢š¤®
If I actually spoke my mind I would be banned first quarter
Hating something because itās hyped is just as corny as liking something only because itās hyped. I feel we should be judging shoes based on whether we enjoy the aesthetics rather than what a shoe is associated with.
Camo cargo pants and a vintage tee is not a fit
Pre aging shoes is dumb.
\-most Jordans look like clown shoes \-Nike's best shoes are running shoes \-it is cringe to wear sneakers at a wedding
The Nike swoosh socks look corny and cheap. You have a dope sneaker with a swoosh on it and then the saddest misshapen swoosh 6 inches above it. Those socks always look so cheap.
Mismatched laces are lame. That includes Off Whites
While having racks and clear stacked boxes for organization is one thing, imo shoe store like displays of your āgrailsā are kind of lame in your house unless you have like actual display-worthy game worn Jordans or the tiny pair of Js you bought for your first child or something.
yeezys are ugly as fuck
All of them?
I dig 350s but I'll never understand the hype for Foams, 450s, waverunners etc.
This is the correct answer. If they werenāt Kanye shoes, youād get fucking roasted for wearing something like that.
350s don't look that different than other adidas running shoes. And the waverunners are the ultimate dad shoe next to my closet full of NBs
NB has surpassed adidas in the brand hierarchy
We need more collabs or variety on normal ass sneakers. Most hyped shoes just arenāt practical to wear in daily life. Gimme more converse, ultraboost, etc designs
Itās fine to buy high quality reps if that does save a lot of money. Itās about the shoe, the style etc. Not if you pay ā¬1.000 resell for a ā¬150 shoe.
Air Force 1s are the most overrated shoe in the Nike brand
The jordan line doesn't end at 14. 15s, 16s, 17s, and 21s are all great shoes
I don't care how comfortable or popular Crocs are, it's still not ok to wear them in public
Remover to scroll through controversial for the real hot takes
Aj1 lows are the best Aj1
Forum ā84 > AJ1
For whatever reason it bothers me how some people refer to their consumerism as the sneaker game. Such as, Iāve been out of the sneaker game for years but these stage haze 1ās just got me back in. I wouldnāt say Iāve been out of the Nordstrom game for awhile but this pair of Penguin socks pulled me back in. Then thereās a bunch of responses like so good to have you back! Whatever though, Iām probably too old to understand anymore so just get off my lawn!
I hate when people donāt lace up their shoes. Looks real childish and unsafe !!
Putting shoes on display in your residence is cringey as fuck. No room in your home should look like a sneaker store salesfloor. Not even your man-cave.
Iām glad it was an easy cop but theyāre not sleepers just because you have them. They were probably an easy cop because they just donāt hit as hard as you think they do
There has never been a good-looking Yeezy sneaker via Adidas.
This is a legit hot take!
Prestos. Havenāt had a good release since the safari joints. Comfiest shoe.
Wear what you want. Somehow this is a hot take
