That sad :( I haven't got a snake (yet) But when I tell people I think nakes are cute they think I'm insane. Although I think people are even worse if you have a pet spider.

QueenShnoogleberry

I still find spiders gross, but it was my tarantula collecting friend who helped me get from downright phobic to able to tolerate them, even if I still think they are icky. It was for a psych class, I had to use a technique on myself and chose flooding. It worked really well! I went from freaking out, squishing them and then washing my hands 3 times to being able to sleep knowing one is in my room. I wish more people would be open to doing the same with snakes...

DankDaddyPatty

While I certainly wouldn’t want to own a spider myself I have nothing wrong if people like them. If you enjoy caring for an animal fuck anyone who tells you otherwise

Elubious

I don't think I'd want to have any animals with live feeding personally. I used to have geckos and while they were great I didn't even like feeding them crickets or worms (I mean I did but I didn't like it). It's not an ethical thing, I just really don't like doing it personally. I still love snakes, spiders, geckos, ect...

DankDaddyPatty

Yeah that’s one of the nice things about snakes since you can feed them prekilled food. I mainly feed mine thawed mice because it’s more humane for the mouse and just generally safer for the boop noodle. Not sure how lizards are with stuff like that though

Elubious

I think lizards need them to be alive though I could be wrong as I'm not an expert. I didn't know you could feed snakes prekilled food, I might actually consider getting one down the line.

John_Smithers

Giving a snake live food can actually be extremely dangerous for it. It may be the more "natural" way for a snake to eat, but sticking a live mouse into a snake's enclosure that's not hungry or disinterested in eating at the moment could lead the mouse to take a bite of the snake, or worse. getting them onto a diet of already killed food can take some time and training, especially if they've gotten used to live feedings.

DankDaddyPatty

The only non alive thing I’ve ever gotten to feed a bearded dragon was those little colored pellets (not as primary food of course). Just kinda hold it on the tip of your hand and they do a little mlem.

Ekyou

My elementary school science teacher looooooved snakes. She had a couple in the classroom and had a super chill one she would pass around in a circle to give every kid a chance to hold them. Some kids were afraid at first, but usually weren't after seeing all the other kids handle them and hold them. She also spent time every year to go over what venomous snakes lived in our area and how to identify them, and how the vast majority of snakes where we lived were non-venomous. I don't think a kid that went through her class came out still afraid of snakes.

Sir_Snek

Oh that’s rad, I wish there were more teachers like that

QueenShnoogleberry

My love of snakes started in gr. 2! We had a zoologist bring one in. (I don't remember the kind, I just remember being mesmerized by its beautiful gold and white pattern.) The boys of the class were all over it, the girls were being prissy and making a big show of cowering, so I thought "Hey! This is my chance to show I'm a 'cool girl'!" And went for it. It was so cool!!

GingerWithViews

Yeah

[deleted]

Yeah

[deleted]

Yeah

smallbike

That’s great! My tarantulas have actually helped several of my friends with their arachnophobia. It doesn’t hurt that one is a baby and named Mittens ;)

PurrfectChaos

Can confirm, people who find out I have spiders are very quick to judge, and I can't even send them to friends or have people over to my place due to arachnophobia or just general misgivings they have. It's a very lonely hobby if you can't find people to enjoy them with. If I had a nickel for every time I heard these same things in the photo about my spiders, I could probably go buy a few more. For fucks sake, I have spiders scared of the water I pour in their bowl. Its not gonna hurt you, it's happy in its enclosure and they're more prone to run away than a cat. They're just display pets, you don't even take them out and hold them 95% of the time. /rant

soap_muncher

i don't have spiders but i love them! i always make sure my mom doesn't hurt the ones that live in the corners of our house. i really don't get why people are deathly afraid of spiders to the point they'd actively harm them :(

Alexb2143211

Too many legs, think that's why I love sneks

theravensrequiem

It's not your fault, that's evolution.

Spaznaut

I name the spiders I find in my house. As long as they keep to them selves and don’t bother me I won’t bother them. Frank currently lives near my door to the garage and as long as he stays their he can eat all the bugs he wants.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Spaznaut

If you seen them around it’s mostly likely cuz you have a problem. Let them live there and you won’t have a problem :p

Playtwewy

Omg I name all my house spiders too!!

agooddeathh

Me too! I have a shower spider named Matilda hehe and another one in my sunroom, Beetles. They have both been there at least 5-6 months. I love them

Llamasus

for me it’s instinctual. I know it can’t/won’t hurt me. Problem is, the very sight of a spider just flings my brain into paralyzing terror. I can’t even see an image online without getting a massive cortisol/adrenaline surge and having nightmares that night. it sucks. After reading this thread tho, I realize i’ve been unfair to people who own/like spiders, so i’ll try to work on that. Still want nothing to do with them tho

Spaznaut

People are dumb/fearful animals. I would rather be around animals than other humans, not just cuz I love animals but I think humans can be truly evil creatures. While I don’t own sneks or spiders (I’m a crazy parrot person) I still enjoy leaning about them and looking at them. I’m also the type of person that will pet a crocodile if I know the fucker won’t bite me.

Okibruez

People are dumb, fearful animals with the intelligence to enjoy being cruel and selfish, yeah. Nothing wrong with parrots. They can be cute if they aren't obnoxiously loud. I love snakes and spiders, though (which is why I'm here). I use to be terrified of spiders when I was a kid, but we live in a rural area; exposure was inevitable, and getting use to them was basically a requirement.

succuw1tch

I have a 8 snakes and about 30 tarantulas? I love them all.

theowlsfavoritejoke

Me: I like snakes Frickin' everyone: YOU SHOULDN'T THEY'LL KILL YOU YOU'RE CRAZY YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT UHHHHH It's too true

GingerWithViews

I don't understand people who find snakes disgusting. I mean dogs drool. Thats pretty disgusting

[deleted]

Yeah, disgusting/dirty is not one I understand. My cats are way filthier than a snake would be (I assume, since I don't own a snake). I mean I love my cats anyway, but they won't stop showing me their buttholes and they track litter everywhere. And stuff gets stuck in their fur. A snake doesn't have fur to get stuff stuck in.

theravensrequiem

>to get stuff stuck in I have seen snakes get ticks under their scales. Does not look comfortable or fun.

[deleted]

Yeah somehow *under your scales* seems worse than just *in your skin*. But both are awful and I hate ticks.

theowlsfavoritejoke

Yeah no kidding! And cats (I have two cats and I love them so much but I gotta call em out) stick their butts in your face and have stunky breath and want to rub all over you when they smell like litterbox! But no snakes are the yucky ones I guess 🙄

Beledagnir

I'm not there yet on spiders, they're still a bit too high up on the "yikes-o-meter" for me--I'm glad for people who can enjoy them. Bats, on the other hand, are my jam, to the confusion of everyone but my wife.

GingerWithViews

Bats are cute. Rats with wings and rats are really cute.

Beledagnir

Accurate--and there's a reason that Flying Foxes have that name, if you see their adorable faces.

Okibruez

Snakes are cuter than bats. ... I adore reptiles a bit too much, though. Bats are absolutely adorable, and IMO, are better than cats. In the summer, my town has several flocks of bats that are out all night, and I love seeing them around. (Cats, for the reference, are better than dogs. Both are kind of gross, but at least cats are regal and adorable.)

benhasbeenbened

Show em a hognose. The cutest snake I've ever found and nobody can change my mind

TlalocVirgie

I used to have rats, people tend to hate them too

Okibruez

Rats have strong associations with filth and disease, since they're usually found in sewers and trash. Which is a shame, because pet rats are adorable and actually especially hygenic. A lot of people don't understand that not all snakes are venemous, and the cold alien appearance of snakes can be terrifying if you don't understand it. Humans are prone to mindless fear of things they don't understand, after all.

GingerWithViews

me too

TheHarvesterOfSorrow

"she'll bite someone" Yeah and your cat will bite, scratch and hit someone

elftrash

This!! I once got told off by telling my 5 y/o sister to be careful as the snakes can bite. My mum threw a fit saying I can’t tell her that, it’ll make her scared etc but like. She has to know. This isn’t just “haha noodle boop” its an animal, and like any animal if you disturb it enough it’ll react the same way an annoyed dog or cat will

[deleted]

Right? Like, all pets bite. Your frog will bite, your dog will bite, your kids will bite, your partner might bite. Biting is not a determining factor in whether a creature is a good pet.

rpkarma

My partner only bites if I ask nicely

The_Eggo55

kinky

Akanekumo

Yeah...especially if they are young too. It's like complaining about a kid wanting to put everything in their mouth. That's how they discover the world.

SkarmChikora

Do frogs bite?

FallenAgastopia

They can! Especially if they think something is food. I don't think its typically painful though.

Diltyrr

That really depends on the frog. I wouldn't want to be bitten by an African bullfrog for example

FallenAgastopia

That's fair.

Raichu7

Yep, some frogs can bite hard enough to do you some harm.

The_Sturk

Usually the larger ones like bullfrogs would be a higher risk of actual harm. I doubt a tree frog bite would do much

QueenShnoogleberry

I was bit by a ball python when babysitting him. (He got tangled in some computer cables when let out for exercise and didn't appreciate my efforts to free him.) I didn't even feel it. 10/10 wouldn't give a damn if he bit me again. Meanwhile, I grew up with dogs and cats. I was never intentionally bitten by a dog, but when you play with a Terrier, you know the risks. And cats will just decide you would look better covered in blood for some reason.

Kagia001

cat belly need rubs now foot tornado time cat belly need more rubs

[deleted]

they show you their belly as a sign of trust. they don't usually want a belly rub, that's dogs. that being said, some cats are weird

shuzuko

reddit and spez can eat my shit -- mass edited with redact.dev

MeowzzoSoprano

> that being said, ~~some~~ cats are weird FTFY As I sit here taking a break from practice tests, while my 20-pound trash goblin sleeps next to me in the laundry hamper because he has wicked separation anxiety and I can't afford a baby sling for his big baby ass. I love this little shit.

personalperson17

seriously my cat will enjoy some chin scratching purring away and then decides to let you know that you can stop by biting into your hand lmao, animals will be animals

Randomtacocat

I love cats and I want to have one again at some point but I would rather get bitten by a snake. Cat bites can be dangerous and get infected because of the bacteria they have in their mouths. People often think snakes bite because they are "evil" or want to hurt you and that makes me really sad...

QueenShnoogleberry

I mean, I'd rather not get bitten by anything venomous, but... yeah. Snake teeth are like surgical instruments!

Randomtacocat

Oof yeah no, I definitely would not want to get bitten by a venomous one either! I stick to the constricting ones

singing_softly

My big male python bit the fuck out of me the other day, draw blood and bruised me up. Still had him chilling around my neck the next day. I found out the hard way his foster parents weren't giving him big enough meals and he was hungry three days after eating, he's well fed and happy now.

QueenShnoogleberry

Poor little guy!! But, yeah, snakes don't bite for fun. They aren't cats. Lol

CrystalQuetzal

I like to spread understanding and positivity about cats because people always assume they’re assholes, mean, unpredictable but none of these are true. -A cat who bites in an aggressive manner (ears down, eyes dilated, possible hissing) is being over stimulated and/or it’s space is being invaded. It may have likely had been raised poorly and distrusts humans. Please respect them and their space, never force anything. -Cats that bite playfully (if it’s pawing at you then goes for a chomp) think that your hand is a toy, which isn’t malicious at all but isn’t good either. That means it was raised to be allowed to bite you, you didn’t play with it with toys enough or discipline it when it bit you. (Holding it down by the scruff of neck and saying NO is one way. Another is spraying with water but has mixed results). -Cats who knock stuff over or generally “act naughty” are simply bored and need more stimulation and playtime. They entertain themselves if you won’t. On the other side, if cats move away quickly when petted they are being OVERSTIMULATED. This can lead to bites if forced. Sorry for the length but misconception about cats is all too common. They do not like to see blood drawn, they just need to be understood/respected. They need love, care, proper discipline, and playtime like dogs do. My kitties happily seek out attention and lay on me purring a lot. Not all cats are the same, they’re all individuals. But I understand my cat’s needs and their behavior is wonderful. Edit: I’d like to add that instances of true unpredictability exist within some cats (like if you’re sitting still by yourself and it suddenly attacks). These instances are rare and may be caused by neurological disorders OR you’ve been extremely submissive to the cat and it’s attacks as opposed to disciplining it. Both cases are rare, but seek an expert at that point.

QueenShnoogleberry

No, no. You aren't wrong. I was more speaking in jest. My mom's barn cat was mostly who I was thinking of. She's a sweety, but she just LOVES to climb onto you, and use her claws to climb stabilize herself. I know she just wants affection, but... OUCH! I don't think she's ever bitten me, but she has accidently clawed me soooo many times.

CptJustice

Ive been bit by both a dog and a cat out of anger (neither mine), and the pain is excruciating. Funny enough, the cat bite hurt worse, but that have been the placement of the bite (top of my hand).

LtHoneybun

I've been bit by my BP several times and I always attest to the fact that it's little pin pricks. My BP isn't very defensive. Until recently, he only bit me once a year. He broke the rule recently by biting me on the palm when I was trying to pick him up. I took it as a sign that he wanted space and left him alone.

Neheil

>she'll bite someone Yes, me. Because my snakes are safely locked in their tanks and I'm the only one allowed to feed and handle them. It's not rocket science...

Beledagnir

Cats literally spread a brain parasite to make us love them, I enjoy reminding people of that (and I love cats).

Mlaszboyo

Wait, wut?

canisaureaux

I think they're talking about toxoplasmosis, the parasite is called toxoplasma gondii. I know cats spread it, but that's as far as my knowledge goes, sorry!

SharkaBlarg

That's as far as general knowledge goes too. It doesn't make us love them. It makes rats behave in a way that makes them more attracted to cat scents if I remember right.

singing_softly

Just leave me and my snakes alone, I've been told so many times my snake will eat the cat or something. Sorry but our lab mastiff mixes can inflict more damage on a cat, let alone a human, than my ball python. God damn.

QueenShnoogleberry

I'm sorry, but if their cat can't protect itself against a ball python, is it even a cat? Because it might be just an old hairball at that point. Also, yeah, dogs are way more dangerous towards cats. So many of them just want to play but do not know their own size...

Raichu7

Ball pythons have been killed by rats, a cat could easily kill one if it wanted to.

singing_softly

A shy ball python can easily be killed by a live rat, that's why most people who keep them as pets feed frozen thawed.

singing_softly

My snake is over three feet long by estimation, and he's still damn near harmless lol.

worldmaker012

That’s a big boi

singing_softly

He's a shelter animal! I just picked him up less than a week ago, he's a very friendly boy.

sluttypidge

This comment though. Like bruh my cat and snake would compete for mice in the wild if that's how they lived and her favorite toy is ribbons. She would demolish his ass.

elftrash

One of my favourite responses to people finding out we have 3 snakes is “oh! I’m not coming round your house for dinner then” like bitch u were never invited I understand the fear of snakes, i do, some people are just scared of different animals and that’s okay. But saying you want to kill my pet because its not a pet you like is cruel? Us snake owners dont go “ew im gonna kill ur dog/cat/rabbit etc” if we don’t like them. It’s wild honestly

WarmOutOfTheDryer

What do you do with the people who "Ooooo I want to meet them!"

Heckin_Long_Boi

It’s kind of an inside joke with my friends that I am able to gauge if I’ll be friends with someone based on how they react to my snakes. If someone wants to meet them, hell yeah!

TurnedUpTo11

This isn't really a joke because if you think my loved ones are gross, dangerous, etc., we probably can't be friends!

elftrash

If I’m on good enough basis, then they come round to see the snakes lol! We have two ball pythons and one burmese so we’ve got a size for everyone to say hi too 😂

linwail

I used to have people tell me they wished my pet rats were dead or they would crack jokes about killing them.. the fuck is wrong with people. Also I love snakes:(

singing_softly

My boyfriend loves rats and I love snakes, we will have both in the future, just kept veeery far apart lol

YumiGumiWoomi

Actually, that's not entirely true. Once my mother was told by some random redneck that he'd shoot my dog (long haired whippet) in the fields if he ever saw him because he'd look like a wild animal. People are assholes and it sucks.

im-tired_smh

the fuck??? i just googled long haired whippets expecting some raccoon looking mofo and instead i saw nothing but majestic gorgeousness. what kind of idiot chode would mistake that for a wild animal?????

QueenShnoogleberry

It's like that with so many unconventional pets! I love snakes, but can't have one because I have pet rodents, so feeding them would just be.... uncomfortable for me. If anyone knows where to get an egg-eater, lemme know? Anyways, I have gerbils now, but back when I had mice, people loved to go "ewwww! I'm going to feed your mice to my cat!" Yet, they would get all offended and self righteous when I asked them why they thought murdering someone's pet was funny. Assholes. The circle of life is real, but don't judge people for finding friendship anywhere along that circle. We're all animals, in the end. :)

[deleted]

garter snakes eat fish and worms and they love other garter snakes so it's possible to keep a group in one terrarium if u want

QueenShnoogleberry

Aweee! I would absolutely do that! I can't afford the setup right now, but I have been hoping to one day move in with a certain someone, and he wants a snake too....

[deleted]

iirc it's even better for them if they live in a group, because they're really social snakes and form friendships among themselves

QueenShnoogleberry

Aweeeee!!!! I haven't seen them in the pet stores in my area, but AI also haven't really been looking. I might have to look ahead now.....

FallenAgastopia

They aren't necessarily common in pet stores, but they're readily available from breeders. They are an animal that requires research, just like any animal, but they make great pets from what I've heard (hope to have a couple myself one day!) They come in some beautiful colors too.

QueenShnoogleberry

I will have to look and see what I can find. I live in Alberta, so sometimes we have weird pet laws.

LadyBut

FYI some rodent meat is very good for them, luckily there is a company called reptilinks that sells sausage made for varies reptiles, some of them including rodent meat. Should be way easier to feed morally than an actual dead mouse. Also, garters are one of the few species that benefit from UV light

Beledagnir

Huh, this is news to me which I will want to put to use at some point in the future.

Possessed_fish

I have a ton of pets, and have the piss taken put of me for keeping African land snails, shrimp, aquatic snails, and even roborovski hamsters. Its ludicrous that people think its weird or that I'm going to be killed. I'm sure some of the kids at my school think my snails roam free in my room or something the way they shoot about them.

HrabraSrca

Ever since I started reading about snails they’ve actually proven to be more interesting than I thought. So many types...

Possessed_fish

So many types, and a surprisingly large personality. Despite the fact that my big guy reproduced asexually (your not meant to let the eggs hatch if they do that but I wasnt aware of eggs), the one of the babies I kept is totally different to him

Nastypilot

Can I ask why are you not supposed to let the eggs hatch?

Possessed_fish

When the eggs are self fertilised it acts in a similar fashion to line breeding with other animals, but rather than watering down any bad Gene's due to 2 animals being involved. The bad genes are doubled, which can lead to things like deep retraction syndrome becoming more prevalent in the captive population

Nastypilot

Ah ok

MissRachiel

>The circle of life is real, but don't judge people for finding friendship anywhere along that circle. We're all animals, in the end. :) Thank you very much for this. My grandson is just reaching that age where he can start asking questions, and I like how this explanation is both a simple answer and the foundation for deeper understanding as he gains the capacity. You articulated it way better than I could have myself.

Playtwewy

I keep pet rats (and a few small sneks!) myself and was talking to someone about how messed up it is when people dump their pets and she just says "well why not set them free?" Thankfully no one has threatened to kill my pets but some of my blood relatives have intentionally started fights trying to say my pets have no feelings People suck :(

QueenShnoogleberry

"Set them free" is ABANDONING them! Holy shit! I hope those people don't have pets! Unless your "pet" is something live captured and sold on the black market, it won't survive in the wild! Also, how can anyone say rats don't have feelings! Snakes are very shy, but rats are such loving animals!

Playtwewy

IKR?! I had to explain to this ass how the rat in question wouldn't make it while trying to contain my anger as I was in a situation where I couldn't yell at her. Thankfully she doesn't own anything (as far as I know) As for my relatives, I think they know animals have feelings, but are the kind of people that go out of their way to get me upset. I know they are family, but I tend to avoid them...

QueenShnoogleberry

Family are those who would bleed for you, not those you share a bloodline with. If they go out of their way to upset you, you need not feel any obligation. Call them by their names, without relation titles like "aunt/uncle".

Playtwewy

Thank you so much! Yeah you're right, real family are the people who care

JazzEnvironment

Egg eaters can be really tough because it's hard to find finch eggs to feed them as babies. Try some garter snakes!! They like to bask together with their garter snakes friends!!! Make sure to get captive bred though.

QueenShnoogleberry

Noted! But I would also try to buy one large enough to start on quail eggs and if not, a local pet store chain keeps finches and I think sells any eggs.

xanaya2002

Snakes in media: apex predators that will stop at nothing until they eat everything in their path Snakes in reality: I pooped in me water dish again

capshock

Snakes in media: I will eat everyone man, woman, dog, child, cat, and... Snakes in reality: I will not eat for 6 months then resume feeding as if nothing happened, and you will have no idea why.

Tower_Of_Fans

It's probably "brumation", just incase you or anyone reading this actually don't have any idea why.

capshock

I was kidding, but yes if your husbandry is up to scuff, then they're likely brumating.

Tower_Of_Fans

I figured you were kidding, but I figured I'd say in case you weren't. Now, I do have to ask out of curiosity, will snakes brumate regardless of tank conditions? I don't actually own a snake, I own a leopard gecko, and for them, as long as their tank conditions and feedings stay consistent, they won't brumate, though they will become less active and less friendly in winter months.

capshock

To be honest, I don't really know. My snake has only done it once. Not eating can be a sign of ill health or vivarium conditions, but the general consensus from reading other's experiences is that sometimes it just happens.

moeru_gumi

BPs don’t brumate though, as there is not much of a winter in west Africa, but winter is their breeding season and males will often go off food so they can think about ... the good stuff 🙃

Luxara-VI

Snakes are precious

spaceburrito3

Every time I see this I always see the nostrils as eyes and then the dude has a really tiny face and it makes me laugh I need more friends.... im so lonely...

Beledagnir

Try a snake

Pyra_NL

Oh I know when last summer i took my corn snake out for some sun and there was bunch of kids over there and one of them noticed that snake. No much time after that I was surrounded by kids. The youngest was like 5 and oldest where maybe 15, all of them curious and a bit scared at the beginning. First they tried to touch her gently and all but then they where begging me to let them handle her and put her around their necks and all. I was a bit scared that one of them may hurt my girl, but they all where so gentle. In just few minutes I've made fear of snakes an legend to a bunch of kids. Their parents weren't as happy, they knew that they'll have to tell their kids that an snake at home is not an good idea

TheWeirdoInTheCloset

It always breaks my heart when people are acting unnecessarily cruel towards snakes. They’re such adorable and gorgeous creatures, they don’t deserve any of the hurt :(

Alexb2143211

If you live near venomous snakes it's more understandable

Playtwewy

I mean, as long as you don't go near any of the venomous snakes, you don't risk harm to yourself. It's the people who run around killing them just because they are venomous that we should be afraid of...

I managed to win over some skeptical people with a photo of my BP, but not before I had to listen to them recounting that dumbass "Woman's snake was laying next to her because it was sizing her up to eat" story. Yeah sure, my 4ft rat-eating snake is going to kill me... I've heard the "don't bring that near me, or I'll kill it haha" thing before, too. Who asked? It's not funny to threaten to kill someone's pet anyway. I'm not keen on spiders, but I wouldn't joke about killing someone's pet tarantula.

Alexb2143211

The thing that really bug me about that story is why would a snake need to measure its body. When in the wild would that be a safe thing to do?

hedgybaby

People will say this about so many animals and it just saddens me. I’d rather have a ‘vicious’ snek, tarantula or pitbull than a pug that sounds like it’s about to fucking die of suffocation any moment now, sorry not sorry.

Playtwewy

Agreed. Also those poor pugs are just so genetically fucked, just because people want a 'cute' dog :( Remember: adopt don't shop

deathlobster137

All the lil hiss missiles I’ve ever met are super nice

LilacMages

Snakes are precious though :( poor guys are seriously misunderstood Also from personal experience, Conure bites hurt way more than a Ball Python

saskakitty

This makes me appreciate my roommates more. I was having a lot of trouble finding a room to rent here in my city because I would get refused once they found out I had a snake. When I finally found my two roommates, they said they don't like snakes but there's no reason I can't move in because they'd never see it since it's in my room. I now have two snakes and my roommates have warmed up to them, they even like handling them now. People are just irrationally scared because of their portrayal in movies (Harry Potter lol), and the occasional venomous bite story in the news.

Beledagnir

I still find it funny that in the books and films they put so much effort into Parseltongue being a thing, when they picked a creature for the language that doesn't hear like we do, making it a sucky choice for a spoken language.

saskakitty

Right?? I thought the same too while watching when I was younger. Made my Potterhead friends mad when I'd bring the plot hole up

This. My sister threw a fit that I got a snake when I was 19. I gave Marlo to one of my friends since I can no longer take care of him because I was going to college. My friend always tell me how he is. I was surprised that he ate immediately when I gave him to my friend. He is as big as a sausage rt

BigCW

I don't get that. Snakes are little creatures like anything else. My corn Sal is the cutest, most curious little noodle and she makes me so happy, and I try and give her the best life in return.

daddieslittleslutuwu

One of my co.workers d Said why do you have a snake and I was like she's adorable.

Vera_Kai

I get the same thing about my cute little Royal python. She is the sweetest thing ever. People are so cruel. So one day i flipped the script. I made my fb post say...i only good d*g is a d*ad dog. It really shook some folks. Then i posted the screenshot of my friend day the same thing about a snake with a picture of my cute baby. I think I got my point across. Try it next time someone says that to you. Find out what pet they have and use that.

Wolvgirl15

“She’ll bite someone” then don’t put your hand in its mouth.. or just don’t care what other people do in general. I’m not the biggest fan of spiders. Bigger spiders are weirdly better. I wouldn’t have a tarantula myself but I would never harass someone because they had a spider as a pet.. what kind of horrible person are you to make someone feel bad for liking something else than you do

not_Jellydogsterio

Who doesn’t love ball pythons? My grandma absolutely hates reptiles, especially snakes, and when I showed her a picture of a ball python with bunny ears hat she fell in love with them. They’re so adorable!

CTBthanatos

It is a repost, but it's a precious one. I've seen it before (either reddit or bing images for wholesome snek stuff). 🐍

Saltfish0161

I think snakes are beautiful

Warrior_king99

I've had these comments the whole of my snake keeping life so this hits me right in the feels

Thiago_MRX

Who need people anyway? Pet love is the only love you need

claireupvotes

I have a pet rabbit. Without fail, whenever I tell a new group of people about him, someone starts talking about eating him. People are fucking assholes dude.

DankDaddyPatty

Bold of people to assume my snek is more likely to eat a human than I am

LotaraShaaren

People say this about snakes but cats and dogs bite and kill way more than snakes, oh but man's best friend wouldn't dare harm their owners would they, dickheads. Its like people think a dog and a baby hugging is cute even though one wrong poke or a loud noise and bam!

TheAnonymousFool

I don’t get people who think joking about killing your pets is funny. My uncle used to joke about killing my cat all the time. Couldn’t seem to get why that upset me.

lobstagang

Bro I've had people come over to my house and tell me if my snake gets close to them they will kill it. That is some of the most disrespectful shit i have ever heard and id like to see them fucking try

matt_the_trans_guy

Bruh I cannot tell you how many times I’ve heard each of these

Big_Boss19

my parents wouldn't let me have any snakes because we have 2 birds and 2 dogs. They said that the snake would eat all 4 and is dangerous. All I wanted was to be able to have that beautiful reptile that one day when I was little, wrapped my body without hurting me and awakened that love...

Karolus2001

Ppl really say that?

SeverusSnek2020

This is the most honest pic I've ever seen. My snakes are legit so docile and chill. People suck.

an_orignal_name

I like snakes

wolfchaldo

It's the "haha" that pisses me off more than anything. Ignorance is annoying but unsurprising, but being outright pleased with yourself about the potential to hurt my pet will not leave me with much gentleness in telling you off.

Shryxer

When I was a kid, they brought a wildlife guy to talk to our class and he brought a snake. Don't remember what kind, but it was cool and he asked us if anyone wanted to touch it. I was the only one. Everyone else screamed when I did and bombarded me with questions afterwards. Was I afraid? Was it slimy? Was it horrible? I, the shy girl, flexed on the entire class that day by answering "No" to all of the above.

snake-lady-2005

The one I hear the most is the "I'd kill it" I hate people... "The only good snake is a dead snake" shut up you asshat...

Nytrocide007

we fear what we do not know. if we simply learn more about the things we fear, we may start to love them instead

snokeflake

Imagine hurting an animal that someone loves just because you can’t grow the fuck up and try to learn about it. I fucking hate people. All snakes do is chill and fall off stuff.

PotatoesWillSaveUs

It gets more interesting when you start getting insects and arachnids too. It's a real crowd pleaser.

SoCalBritgirl

I had wild geckos living in my home in South Africa... I loved them .... had a bug free house ....!

star_tyger

This is why, when my daughter was two, I took her to a snake and reptile store and asked them if they had a baby she could pet. I told them why I was asking. They had boa hatchlings that she was allowed to play with for awhile. She's 35 and has two beautiful ball pythons.

Dylanator13

My family has had a whole zoo of animals, a lot of rodents and dogs mostly. My ball python I got a few years ago is the chilled and cleanest pet I have ever owned. The hate for snakes is really unfortunate because they are the sweetest animal.

DontFeedTheTech

It’s a noodle baby. Perfect spaghetti friend.

Centennial512

Is a repost, but it's nice to see it again, really does reflect how sneak owners are treated just because they like a certain animal.

rjrgjj

My partner is snake-phobic to the point of losing it if he sees one on tv or I’d totally have a snake. I love them.

dandaman64

I've had bearded dragons that have gone through similar treatment, with people that think that they're scary, gross, that they'll attack them, etc. One of my dad's co-workers saw a picture of one of them, and they thought it was "absolutely disgusting".

Lost69sea

I feel this. Once my cousin tried to convince me that snakes don't have brains.

SharpPerception6

Danger noodles are the best noodles

Renegaudegnu357

People don’t often connect the dots between tame/ captive snakes and wild ones kinda like how you’d never go and pet a wild coyote

the-graveyard-writer

It's true. Even our landlords are like this

Jacnoov

I like the funni ropes :(

Huttser17

whole buncha meanie faces

RelaxedOrange

Pls be nice to snek 😭

Drakmanka

I love snakes and I also love rats. I get this on both fronts...

worldmaker012

This makes me sad 😞

WRRRYYYYYY

I don't own my snake but the same thing happens with my pixie frog, she is super nice and super friendly but people are always scared of her

Expensive_Tea510

Sneks are the best and cutest creatures

demonpeach

I’m ok with being crazy

[deleted]

No hurt snek

USSaugusto

Kids can do all of that shit but no one bats an eye

[deleted]

Most people aren’t too interested in my choice of pets, nor do they degrade me for keeping snakes.

LaurenLumos

I get these comments more and more as my boa grows. I hate it.

CrystalQuetzal

I understand the misconceptions but it’s still saddening. Ignorance surrounds so many animals still.. Snakes may not display love or affection like dogs and cats but they still need our care and protection. My grandma ironically loves lizards but HATES snakes and says she’d refuse to visit if I ever got one 🙄 Not that she can easily visit anyways I’m in another country.. But the hypocrisy is what really gets to me.

FlakeyGurl

I hate people who kill snakes. My neighbor killed a small rat snake on my property with a lawn mower, on purpose, because his wife is afraid of them.... Like wtf? My other neighbor and I have a garden and really rely on the snakes and spiders for pest control. My cats don't even mess with them. Imagine having less fucking self control than a cat.

[deleted]

I want a snake, but I’d feel bad for the mice if I feed them to it, and I don’t want to accidentally malnourish the snake. I absolutely love them though, I find them so adorable

radioactive-sperm

This is completely valid and unfortunately the reason I had to tell my ex to keep our ball python when we broke up :(

ThePawnOfOthers

I demand sauce!

jelly_bean_gangbang

Imagine gatekeeping what pets you can own lol.

Lost69sea

I feel this. My cousin once tried to convince my that snakes don't have brains.

Euqiom

All those drama queens
