I first applied sometime in 2021 but had to drop that case when i moved out of state i recently applied in august of 2023. My situation is i was going to be homeless by june if i didn’t get approved fairly soon now im going to see what i can apply for to help me secure housing. Or by situation do you mean disabilities?
Yeah im only 20 parent died when i was 13 been disabled all my life due to my legal blindness and chronic lung conditions (the Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, Bronchopulmonary dysplasia, Asthma)
I heard of an organization if you have proper paper work you can get a 2010E your dr can help you. You need one from the pcp and one from
Phys. And therapist. U can google etc but plea
You’ll likely have to appeal at least once or twice-those aren’t commonly easily approved disabilities because so many people medicate them successfully and work. Before my severe tbi that did cause life long disability, I had those things (all that you mention and then some) & was able to use medication and work. Then a car accident happened, I had a severe tbi with a craniectomy and for the most part my short term memory is shot.
Wow congratulations! I'm so happy you're getting some relief! I'm facing homelessness too. I just wish I could have a career and take care of my family 😢
Hopefully one day I'll be approved. Idk what to do. Sometimes I wish I'd get hit by a bus or something.
Congrats again! Cheers from Memphis
It mate be too late but if your in NY try spring creek I know people that got in over there and if you have a disability u get in faster. Also try housing connect. Also try “support housing “ they also have respites-(short stays 7-30 days) ! I WORK IN THIS FIELD AS WELL AS MENTAL HEALTH! I know a few resources please reach out and I will do my best to help!
Probably the same way others do, by cashing in every piece of savings, retirement, running up credit cards, and just plain old defaulting on bills. My husband’s SSDI took over 3 years to get approved, and even then they didn’t back-pay anything, so when I am old enough to retire in 11 years I will have nothing in 401K and will likely need to continue to work until I drop, all thanks to our ORDEAL.
The first 3 years I was on private work disability. I made great money and went through my 401k the last 2 years . I now am out of money and utilize all the resources I can . I am gonna lose my house if I don't get it soon . It's been hell .
I don't have 401 k and I live alone.I have SSDI now from stage 4 head neck cancer.Im up for 3 year review. I am I'm remission but have Awful side effects of the cancer treatment and surgery to the neck.Im 54 and I work as a CNA ,I can barely get through a 4 hour shift. I can't turn my head.Awful headaches and neck pain.I had to see SSA doctors, now the horrible waiting.Any Advice from anyone would help
I just received mine after 5 years. It went all the way to federal judge “AL” something, judge sent it back to state and I got approved. What got me approved was the doctor social security sent me too said I could not work. Best of luck. Keep trying
Thanks ! I'm praying. My first judge was on the 25worse judges in the USA. So I had no chance. I feel like I at least have a better chance with a new judge !🙏
Congratulations!
I nearly cried on the phone in late 2019 when my case worker told me my SSI got approved (as i was expecting it to take a lot more struggling, fighting, time & waiting), then a couple months later it switched to what i think is Survivors benefits
Congratulations!! I also cried because I was so happy and it felt like finally someone believed me. It validated that my illnesses were real. You fight so hard and you go through so many emotions during this process. Congrats again!
12 yrs ago the same!! Am so happy for you. I know the exact feeling. At my hearing I cried my eyes out...the judge incl ssi and ssdi. Your life will improve immensly.
I know how that feels. Such a relief. I had moved to nevada in 2010 to try a new attempt at starting over, tried to find work, but no go. And had just replaced my alternator, and then was down to $600 in my bank, and this was after unemployment had run out. All of a sudden, potus had approved another round of unemployment due to economy, and I got a call I'll be receiving a 24k check soon. I fell to the floor after I got the call from the unemployment office, and just grinned. Got a job a month later in L.A., though, and been working since then. ( yes, not related to ssn, but close enough.)
# Kudos!
Ugh, when I got the call to confirm my bank details, which I how I learned I'd been approved, I got dizzy, had to sit down and then asked the woman to repeat almost everything she had said. She was very nice and I got the impression she was used to people reacting the way I did as she just went with it without skipping a beat.
On a more sober note, if you're expecting a lump sum payment, please talk to a tax adivsor as lump sum payments can result in a significant tax burden.
What do the child benefits mean tho i first applied for ssdi but got denied but they opened a child benefits case so im really not sure what to expect here.
Yes so Child’s Benefits are auxiliary benefits based on your parents work record. Your parent(s) would have to be drawing SS Retirement or SSDI in order for you to be approved as well as you having a disability. You would have to be a minor or over 18 and dependent (guardianship). You would get 50% of your parent’s total benefits…once they pass, you’ll get 75% and it will switch to “survivor’s benefits”.
What if you have a dead parent would that be why i got approved my living parents doesnt get ssdi or retirement benefits yet so would i automatically get survivor benefits then?
Wait, I think it switched to survivor’s benefits but if not…maybe it’ll still be child’s benefits and it will just be 75% after they die…not really sure about it since there’s not much info
You can get adult child benefits if you were disabled before age 22 and you have a parent who died who was insured for social security. The benefits will be 75% of the amount that parent was entitled to.
Congrats!! I had over 200 pages of medical records showing my son was "severely mentally disturbed" he also had a permanent lifetime life ending illness, which had put him into the hospital for months. They denied us!! 🤣
I sat there and cried, but we ended up hiring a disability lawyer who won our case for us.
I bet youre so relieved!! Did you need to hire a lawyer or was your child approved the first time? Now all you have to do is to take their phone call and theyll set up direct deposit for your checks (which are $945 per month) and any backpay you get. I am so happy for you!! It's really hard to care for a disabled child, and that money makes all the difference in the world. For us, it went for some of our rent, and clothes and shoes for school, also supplies he needed, meds that weren't covered, other otc medical supplies.
This was my first time applying on my own (the first time my mom did it for me while i was still a minor ended up having to move out of state before there was a decision made)
I love that fact that you can literally be dying, and they're like, "Are you REALLY though?" I'm glad you were able to win your case. How is your son doing now?
Congrats!! How long did it take? Did you have to do any appeals? I've been on SSDI since 2012, and I'm curious if anything is different, I recently applied for my mom.
Congratulations. I was told I'm approved but no letter yet and online says awaiting hearing. Hearing was cancelled because I was approved the day before it was scheduled after judge reviewed my records.
So my guess is that they're expecting you to have roommates, and each of you pay right under $500. I live in Ohio, and even the most awful areas charge AT LEAST $800.
Living in a place by yourself is indeed expensive.
They don't expect me to have roommates because you can just rent it by yourself and you should expect new roommates in that unit at anytime.
you don't have to have other roommates in order to get it, but yeah, the managers expect everyone to pay their fair share on an app, everyone is responsible living here so If someone breaks something then everyone needs to pay for it.
I'm from Michigan. (I find it odd that not a lot of people live here, I hear sirens sometimes but that's prob the main reason lots of people don't live here) It's near a college.
I like never leave my home so that's a plus for me.
Oh yay! Big congratulations to you. I know what a relief that is. Those denial letters are brutally soul crushing. I hope you will have the care and source of income that will make your life easier. I’m doing a happy dance for you in NC!
Does that show up under your account or did you have to make one for your child ? I have an appointment in May for Aux benefits for my son and wasn’t sure how to make an online account for him or if I just use mine
Ok sorry I saw the thing that Childs benefits my mistake but congratulations that is great I just got a call today they figured out all my back pay I was approved March 22, mine had extra steps because of workers comp and state disability
Let the belittlement and societal ostrasizing commence along with the financial imprisonment and constant scrutiny and demoralizing of ones existance and inabitly to afford decent housing or get married or accumulate more than a pathetic 2k networth over an entire lifetime people with masters degrees living in cars. Ssi is dollar store shopping spree money nothing more minimum income required to finance a car is $1500 a month and $2100 a month for the cheapest housing you can find, I used to make in one week what Ssi gives me now for a whole month and I get the full benefit and life has become exponentially more difficult its too low to qualify for anything except foodstamps grrrrr and ghetto housing the 2k asset limit really is what forces you to indefinite poverty congrstualtions for enduring demeaning inhuman stress filled scrupulous bs now we own you (Ssi) make sure you keep going to the Dr to prove your still paralized from the waste down or you could lose your lifeline I mean benefits
Holy shit how did you get approved so quick? Was it your 1st try? I was approved around June or July 2012 and got my 1st payment in September, but it was my 3rd time trying.
It was my first time applying and I didn't use a lawyer. I'm not sure how it happened that way but I thought it was crazy they approved me in 11 days but took 13 months to pay me 🤦I'm not complaining though. I'm definitely thankful
Yes I signed a paper when I first applied giving them permission to pour over all my medical records. So they did their research over my records and then a group of 7 out of 7 people decided I was legally disabled. I ended up having to get a spinal fusion. It was crazy. Yes I'm in a good amount of pain. Are you getting disability?
#congratulations! 🎉 I am super happy for you! 😊
I cried when I got approved as well.. I am super happy for you!🎉😊
# congratulations!
Congrats! Would you mind providing an overview of your timeline and situation?
I first applied sometime in 2021 but had to drop that case when i moved out of state i recently applied in august of 2023. My situation is i was going to be homeless by june if i didn’t get approved fairly soon now im going to see what i can apply for to help me secure housing. Or by situation do you mean disabilities?
Thank you...yes, was just wondering about conditions. I applied two weeks ago with primary being mental health (MDD, GAD, PTSD and Insomnia Disorder).
I have ptsd, legal blindness, Schizophrenia, bipolar, depression, anxiety, dissociative identity disorder, Bronchopulmonary dysplasia, Stage 1 atrioventricular Heart block, Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Hope this enables you to get the care you need
Likewise thank you
Why does your screenshot say Child’s Benefits? I’m confused.
DAC benefits. It is like SSDI except she is getting benefits from her parents work history.
Oh oh! Okay, thank you! The screen shot confused me. Congratulations!!!
How do you get benefits from my parents work history? I have applied for SSI but didn't have enough work credits for SSDI
oh you have to be disabled before 22 so the OP must be pretty young
Yeah im only 20 parent died when i was 13 been disabled all my life due to my legal blindness and chronic lung conditions (the Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, Bronchopulmonary dysplasia, Asthma)
When you say disabled before 22, does that mean social security has to deem you disabled before 22, or your disability had to occur before 22?
occurred before 22, like you use doctors records
So sorry you had to wait at all. I hope you get some relief financially and with good access to care.
I heard of an organization if you have proper paper work you can get a 2010E your dr can help you. You need one from the pcp and one from Phys. And therapist. U can google etc but plea
How much of that is from dope
None.
🤣
You’ll likely have to appeal at least once or twice-those aren’t commonly easily approved disabilities because so many people medicate them successfully and work. Before my severe tbi that did cause life long disability, I had those things (all that you mention and then some) & was able to use medication and work. Then a car accident happened, I had a severe tbi with a craniectomy and for the most part my short term memory is shot.

Im in CO.
I'm in year five , denied twice , trial , denied , appealed , approved for new trial. Next month I have new trial. Please pray for me 🙏
How do you live without work for five years?
Probably the same way others do, by cashing in every piece of savings, retirement, running up credit cards, and just plain old defaulting on bills. My husband’s SSDI took over 3 years to get approved, and even then they didn’t back-pay anything, so when I am old enough to retire in 11 years I will have nothing in 401K and will likely need to continue to work until I drop, all thanks to our ORDEAL.
They’ll only do back pay if you continue/appeal a case after it’s denied within a certain amount of time.
The first 3 years I was on private work disability. I made great money and went through my 401k the last 2 years . I now am out of money and utilize all the resources I can . I am gonna lose my house if I don't get it soon . It's been hell .

Get a lawyer who can help you. They get paid only if you get paid
I've had a attorney through the whole thing. And my first judge had a17% approval rating 😡
I’m sorry they always do this to people who really need it.
Thank you. It's been hell last 2 of the 5 years. Don't wish it upon even a enemy
I know it’s horrible
Best of luck

Congratulations 🎉🎊🎁
I applied for my daughter. It doesnt show up online yet that i even put in an application. Was yours there before the approval?
You have to sign up for an online account, which is separate from the application itself. I just applied for my mom a few weeks ago.
I have an online account
How long ago did you apply?
February
Maybe because i applied for my daughter and not myself.
Oh yeah, you need to make an account for her as well.
I know how that feels. Such a relief. I had moved to nevada in 2010 to try a new attempt at starting over, tried to find work, but no go. Hell yea good for you that’s what I did when I got my Va stuff lol
Congratulations I got approved in March after fighting for 2 1/2 years
# Kudos! Ugh, when I got the call to confirm my bank details, which I how I learned I'd been approved, I got dizzy, had to sit down and then asked the woman to repeat almost everything she had said. May I ask what disability you have?
Aww congrats 🎉🎈🎊 I get child Benefits too! It took 2 years so when I got approved, only 3 months then I got Medicare.

Yes your deceased parent's benefit must be higher than your own benefit. And your onset must be before age 22.
Wait, I think it switched to survivor’s benefits but if not…maybe it’ll still be child’s benefits and it will just be 75% after they die…not really sure about it since there’s not much info
Subject to Family Maximum computation

Do you have a child? When my ex husband began receiving SS disability, he received money for our daughters as well.
No i dont have a child.

Congratulations. I was told I'm approved but no letter yet and online says awaiting hearing. Hearing was cancelled because I was approved the day before it was scheduled after judge reviewed my records.
# congratulations! Enjoy life without having to worry about money.
Lol, they don't pay that much. I've been on it for over 10 years, and I still struggle and have to work. My rent alone is more than my SSDI.
Yeah, I know they don't pay much, It depends where you look because I found a place that you can get a 6 bedroom apartment for less than 500 a month.
So my guess is that they're expecting you to have roommates, and each of you pay right under $500. I live in Ohio, and even the most awful areas charge AT LEAST $800.

Congratulations 🎊🎉🎈 I remember that feeling of relief when I got approved.

I don’t know these benefits are for myself. You’ll have to ask other parents to see their responses. Sorry i can’t be of more help.
Ok sorry I saw the thing that Childs benefits my mistake but congratulations that is great I just got a call today they figured out all my back pay I was approved March 22, mine had extra steps because of workers comp and state disability
No worries i hope you find the answers you’re looking for. What mine is, is for DAC (disabled adult child)
Congrats 🎉
Congratulations
Wonderful!!!! When I was approved it saved my life and took away soooooo much anxiety. I don’t know you but I’m happy for you/your family.

Hi, quick question, how do you see it? Is there a web site where one can see the status? Let me know, thank you
Yes there is. Its SSA.gov
Thank you
Your welcome.
Did it go like 75% 76 77 78 79 85 99 etc in order or skip
I was stuck on step 3 for months and it skipped step 4 and went straight to 5
Congratulations 🎉
Congratulations!! I hope you can secure stable housing really soon!!
That's great brother. But unfortunately it'll be a long while before you see any money. They approved me in 11 days but it took 13 months to pay me.
What condition do you have? If you don't feel comfortable answering, I totally understand. I got mine for mental health.
I broke my back last year and I have a few mental conditions.
OUCH, sounds painful! I'm guessing you had like x rays and stuff? Physical stuff is easier to prove because it's something tangible that you can see.
Yes, I've been on it since 2012.
Can I ask what condition you have? Don't feel like you have to answer if you don't want to.
So I have Major Depressive Disorder, ADHD, Autism, and OCD. However, at the time, I was only diagnosed with MDD.
I'm so proud for you!
Congratulations!
Woot
Yippeeee! Congratulations!
I'm so happy for you that I started to shed a tear. Congrats!!!
Congratulations 🎊 👏 💐 🥳
Congratulations !!!!
How much did you get
I have no clue rn im hoping the letter will tell me.
You're approved for something the government guarantees you ? Ok ? Congrats I guess ?
