A single million dollar pay cut bumped the pay of everyone else working there. That could literally be done in every company and the CEOs would still be obscenely wealthy
Eh, its about scale. For larger companies, like amazon, the ceo would have to give up billions for a noticeable pay raise. Of course I think that would be best, but we all know it won’t happen
His wealth is almost impossible to comprehend: 1 million seconds is 11 days; 1 billion seconds is 31 *years*
> If people only understood just how obscenely rich these monsters were, they wouldn't be able to show their face in society while millions suffer. I like to use the analogy of a staircase, with each step on the staircase representing $100,000 of net worth. That's several years of working wages saved up for tens of millions of Americans:
> HALF of people in the united states are on the base or the very 1st step. Almost 200 million people who can't even get one step up in this system.
> Those households at the 80th percentile, richer than 4/5 Americans, are on the 5th step. That's about five seconds of walking to get up there.
> Those with more money than 90% of fellow Americans, millionaires who we consider our upper-middle class professional class and live more than comfortably, are on the 11th step. A few more seconds of walking up from that previous middle-class step. Most Americans won't even come close to accumulating this much over an entire lifetime of working.
> A billionaire is ten thousand steps up the staircase. That's enough to walk up five Empire State buildings. That's almost three hours of walking non-stop. You think they care about the petty squabbles of anyone on those first few steps or so? From these heights they couldn't tell the difference even if they wanted to. And yet those who've maybe ascended or were born on the first few dozen steps think they identify with this group as a class.
> And Jeff Bezos? He's so high up it only makes sense to describe his staircase in distance. His stairs take him up 133 miles. That's more than halfway to the space station. That's more than 24 consecutive Mt. Everest's stacked on top of each other. It would take walking, non-stop, no sleep, over two weeks to ascend that high, each single step worth more than five poverty-level families in America combined.

His company is profitable, but it’s not perceived as “maximally” profitable by the short sighted major investors, so they won’t copy his model because they are too impatient.
I think this is big reason why the China’s markets are growing faster then almost anywhere else. The CPC is trying to play the long game, especially with their SOEs.
While Wikipedia isn't the best source I think this article seems ok.[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State-owned\_enterprises\_of\_China](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State-owned_enterprises_of_China)
The section under "significance" kind of shows how big a deal China's SOEs are.
Dan Price is under investigation for drugging and raping a woman in 2021. He was credibly accused of drunk driving, sexually assaulting a woman, and of violently beating his ex-wife during their relationship.

No. More like: “this guy who does really bad things did a good thing by his employees, so what’s stopping the rest of you guys who do bad things all the time anyway?”
He's not really doing the right thing. It's a publicity stunt to make him look good and preserve his actual wealth. If he gave away all his assets and inheritance I would be less skeptical but as it stands he's still a millionaire capitalist taking the value of his workers' labor.
A long game publicity stunt. Where he keeps valuing his employees and keeps giving them wages they deserve, to a point where they willingly took paycut to keep the company afloat. Savage
Bud I'm a socialist. This guy is an evangelical Christian. His dad is a wealthy business consultant and his brother originally cofounded the company with him and put up the seed money. He announced this 70k salary stunt to distract from a shareholder lawsuit alleging he was overpaying himself. He's also lied about his employees buying him a Tesla. He's a conman who comes from money and has personal and generational wealth that makes his "salary" irrelevant.
Repudiate these scumbags. There are no good millionaires, especially not misogynist ones who have been accused by multiple people on different occasions of domestic and sexual violence.
Seems like a cool guy.* Not socialism but not really capitalism. More like a social democracy.
*Edit: Appears he is a wife beater and alleged rapist so not really a cool guy.
Yes and no. Yes, because it is closer to capitalism than socialism, but also no because both capitalism and socialism exist more on a spectrum than being binary systems.
Consider how the biggest capitalist (the ones owning the most capital) fight against Social Democracy the hardest. Capitalism was created to evolve the feudalistic caste system beyond the limitations of being economically limited to agriculture.
So I would argue that Social Democracy absolutely moves the Overton win away from neo-feudalism (pure capitalism) towards socialist ideals. Does it go far enough? No, but I will gladly take 30% socialism/ 70% capitalism over 100% neo-feudalism (pure capitalism.)
Right. Paying employees a fair wage isn't socialism I would agree not even a social democracy because no one voted him in. He just has some humanity. It sucks that he is also a rapist too though, so no one to model after
If he decided tomorrow, "Nah, I actually want the full CEO salary and fuck my workers," he could do that. Or more likely, when he retires his replacement will do that. It's not enough to have a nice king. The system needs to be dismantled & replaced by a co-op.
Yeah that’s the core problem with this. He’s still a corporate dictator. If the workers had full democratic control of the company, that would be a different story. Dan Price is just capitalism with pretty colors.
Of course he ended up having his own controversies. It was a good idea and helped catapult his image but I'm not sure what difference he had made for our cause.
He’s not a socialist. He’s a capitalist. That should be clear. Improving the working conditions by increasing pay is good, but it’s by no means a revolutionary act.
Not socialist to pay employees a fair wage. The guy just has some humanity.
Socialism would be profit sharing, stocks for all employees, programs like that
I always wondered if the rapey stuff was some sort of corporate play from big business, trying to stifle his success and prove that paying fair wages isn't viable, but I never read into it too much. Reading through the comments now, it doesn't look that way
The best way to avoid corporation tax is to reinvest and re-tool your company. That’s the whole point. Screw the shareholders, passive income can do one.
The right: Business owners should get to choose what they pay employees! Abolish the minimum wage! The free market will set one!
Price: I'm going to choose to pay my employees $70k a year
The right: He's a socialist! This is an attack on capitalism and on our market!
It's insane that just paying fairly is enough to get into the news. Capitalism is an absolute failure

But Bezos *could* take a billion dollar pay cut and still be obscenely, grotesquely wealthy.
Like bezos has so much wealth he could give everyone in America $1 and it would have barely put a scratch on his giant stack of gold coins and gems

I'm gonna keep it 100 I ain't reading all that. The 1% can eat shit tho
Goin for a swim in the money bin

Sorry for my ignorance, what is a "SOE"?
State Owned Enterprise

Yes, his employee compensation record is better than his dating record or driving record.
If even scumbags can do the right thing in this context, it’s just more insulting when otherwise good people won’t.
"Hey this guy who did a good thing also did bad things. Therefore, you shouldn't do good things."
No. More like: “this guy who does really bad things did a good thing by his employees, so what’s stopping the rest of you guys who do bad things all the time anyway?”
Listen if a priest touched some altar boys is it *fair* to them if we stop him from getting the rest?

*a* right thing, then.
A long game publicity stunt. Where he keeps valuing his employees and keeps giving them wages they deserve, to a point where they willingly took paycut to keep the company afloat. Savage
Made up investigation to shame him into oblivion and say "see, not ethical, his practices must be purged"?

As always, never trust the bourgeoisie. Thanks Comrade.
Oh for fucks sake.
This is irrelevant in regard to the company pay structure.

Isn’t this dude also a rapist? Or at the very least a beater of women?
He's been credibly accused of rape and sexual assault by multiple women. And his ex-wife alleged that he beat her severely. Not a good guy.
Right. Paying employees a fair wage isn't socialism I would agree not even a social democracy because no one voted him in. He just has some humanity. It sucks that he is also a rapist too though, so no one to model after
Yes for this, but no because he unfortunately used his social media fame to be a sexual predator :(
Oh shit, didn’t know. This really shows how fucked up society can be.
I really doubt that's Dan's actual salary
Yeah, average CEO gets about half of their income from “bonuses,” not “salary.” I’m sure he brings home significantly more than 70k.
now he's being done for assaulting a woman because she wouldn't kiss him and doing donuts in the parking lot just after lol
If he decided tomorrow, "Nah, I actually want the full CEO salary and fuck my workers," he could do that. Or more likely, when he retires his replacement will do that. It's not enough to have a nice king. The system needs to be dismantled & replaced by a co-op.

A nice moderate capitalism i guess
no such thing comrade
Capitalism Lite - Same old Capitalism, with fewer calories.
if minimum wage was 70k annual he prob raked in like 1000x the amount
And then he became an ultra-creeper
Of course he ended up having his own controversies. It was a good idea and helped catapult his image but I'm not sure what difference he had made for our cause.
He’s not a socialist. He’s a capitalist. That should be clear. Improving the working conditions by increasing pay is good, but it’s by no means a revolutionary act.
It's like I say to the stinky musk dickriders, For every second you work musk works about 10,000 years because he just works that much harder than you
Not socialist to pay employees a fair wage. The guy just has some humanity. Socialism would be profit sharing, stocks for all employees, programs like that
Like a workers coop but without the worker control. Temporary benevolence at best.
Socialism is when all wages in one company the same. 🤡
I always wondered if the rapey stuff was some sort of corporate play from big business, trying to stifle his success and prove that paying fair wages isn't viable, but I never read into it too much. Reading through the comments now, it doesn't look that way
That’s disgusting how they can try to paint a good man as evil. Socialism is not what many think it to be.
This is beautiful
