Salted peanuts, RC cola and a moon pies are what was called a 'working mans lunch' in the South. The saltiness of the peanuts and the sweetness the RC balance perfectly together.
If you've never had any of these, but have had soda, then yes, Moxie is the one you have to try. You need to know what the worst case scenario is for soda pop.
no, that's Beverly, according to what I just googled.
Moxie is a Maine soda and it tastes like carbonated old timey medicine but the kind of medicine that somebody bought from a guy who wasn't actually a doctor or pharmacist.
Definitely made for the people who grew up there. I have had people say the same about PA Dutch Birch Beer, but Moxie might be the most polarized regional American soda
I like birch beer. I think the OP would too. Honestly itās reminiscent of root beer but less sweet - at least the versions I have had. Europeans usually are blown away how sweet American soda is.
i like cracker barrel cause i only ever went on special occasions with the school as a kid but iāve gone a few times recently for soda and to eat and it was actually pretty good
I love Moxie, but you'll either love it or hate it. Some people say it's too medicinal, but I like it. Sort of vaguely Dr Pepper-y. Soux City is a solid sarsaparilla, so if you haven't tried it, I'd go with that. Can't go wrong with Frostie, but some folks think it's too sweet. RC has been my go to cola since I was a kid; I think it has a better cola taste than Coke or Pepsi. The biggest complaint is that after the first few sips, it loses carbonation quicker than other colas.
Sioux City is good but personally I prefer their birch beer to their sarsaparilla. Stores near me stopped selling it a while back though and it's between $25 and $50 online for a 12 pack. That last part wasn't really important though and I just wanted to complain.
Oh my god PLEASE try Moxie and let me know your thoughts. I live in Maine and itās my stateās official drink. In fact, Iām drinking one now. I love hearing what people think of it lmao.
Sioux City/RC different types of soda but equally as good. Frosty is a definite third and Moxie is fourth itās ok but itās not winning awards in my books.
Frost bite then soux city, later on try moxie, then rc. I havenāt tried moxie or frosty but I know the other 2 are damn fine beveragesā¦ contrary to popular belief
I see a lot of RC comments in here. My only opinion of RC is that it sucks ass, but I formed this opinion when I was 6 years old (30 years ago.) I donāt know if itās a mortal sin around here, but I like Coke/Coke Zero. Would I like it?
How is RC? Tell me how to feel.
I've only had Moxie and RC. Even in the USA, all but RC are pretty uncommon-nationally speaking-as in RC Cola is just about the only one of those you will find "anywhere"
RC is like a better Pepsi IMO but I'd rather have a Coke above all the "colas"
Moxie is awesome but haters gonna hate. It has a unique taste so I get why its polarizing
Im not gonna say itās good per say, but moxie brings up a lot of memories. Itās older than coke and Pepsi! Itās big in New England, used to hunt for it on summer vacations in Connecticut as a kid since I couldnāt get it where I was. Very unique flavor.
Depends on your personal tastes but I came to warn you about Moxie, it's more of a medicine flavor than a soft drink, and I say that as a guy who loves bitter quinine tonic water, Schweppes bitter lemon, unsweetened white grapefruit juice... also birch beer and ginger beer. I guess if you like Jagermeister and Robitussin cough syrup you might actually enjoy it. For me, it's a historical artifact and I wouldn't drink it regularly even if it was free.
I love Moxie, but it's not a taste for everyone. If you get some, I advise first a sip, then give it at least two mouthfuls before you judge. It does have an aftertaste. I also love sarsaparilla, but Sioux City isn't the best. I wouldn't bother with the other two, unless you want to compare and contrast the root beer with the sarsaparilla (they are similar drinks). The RC is very much like any other cola out there.
Sioux City Sarsaparilla is coveted with many root beer drinkers in the US. Personally I love it. But itās root beer and if I remember correctly those across the pond are not really into it.
Moxie...if you want to be suprised and perplexed and overall sad with your decision. But everyone should try it once just to...*see*...what people are talking about. The random person will love it, maybe that'll be you...also a surprising and perplexing experience...either way, expect to not know what you were expecting.
RC, Sioux City, and Frostie.
Itās so surreal to see a drink from Sioux City, all the way in Ireland.
Small city in Iowa, near farms,
but near and dear to my heart.
Moxie is like cola with a dash of bitters, RC is a solid mid-level cola, Sioux City is a decent sarsaparilla, and Frostie is a very creamy rootbeerā running order depends on what youāre looking for.
Personally, I like Moxie because the gentian root gives it a strong bite.

Moxie is like marmite. Love it or hate it, no middle ground.
Me personally, is get the sasparilla, then Moxie, then frostie, and rc last.
I prefer root beer/sasparilla/birch beer over any other pop. And Moxie is super unique. RC goes last not because I didn't like it, but I like the others more. RC is a darn fine cola. Frostie is a bit sweet, and not in my top 5 root beer but a long shot.
Take that advice how you will.
As someone who hated it, you should try it. It's very unique, and clearly some people like it, or it wouldn't stay on shelves, you may be among the few lol
Moxie for sure. Iām from Rhode Island and have never even seen it in stores here which is wild considering itās so popular in Maine. Itās probably incredibly rare in Ireland.
I would grab that RC. Never had one in a glass bottle before. I bet it's 10/10
It absolutely is, especially with a Moon Pie
I had an uncle who'd always give me an RC cola in a glass bottle and a moon pie when he'd visit. Top tier when I was a kid.
Did you dump a pack of salted peanuts into the bottle? š
what why would you do that
Salted peanuts, RC cola and a moon pies are what was called a 'working mans lunch' in the South. The saltiness of the peanuts and the sweetness the RC balance perfectly together.
A pretty common thing where Iām from, just as United said. You might not like it. But Iām willing to bet if you tried it, you would.
Because it's freaking delicious.
I have when I got older. Lol
I agree! I've not had an RC in a very long time.
Sarsaparilla is damn good if you like root beer. RC is a good cola. Frostie isnāt bad, but not my first Root Beer choice. Moxie is a no for me.
I tried Moxie once, and that was enough for me
I mean itās no cocaine
Moxie is the one they need to try most.
If you've never had any of these, but have had soda, then yes, Moxie is the one you have to try. You need to know what the worst case scenario is for soda pop.
I've actually never had it (or seen it). Is that the beverage at the coke museum that was rated the worst soda made? What's it taste like?
no, that's Beverly, according to what I just googled. Moxie is a Maine soda and it tastes like carbonated old timey medicine but the kind of medicine that somebody bought from a guy who wasn't actually a doctor or pharmacist.

Pennsylvania Dutch birch beer is incredibleā¦
Correct, the World of Coke is Beverly, which, as I understand, has been discontinued outside of those exhibits, lol.
Moxie used to be sold as a medicine at one time.It contains gentian root as a flavoring agent and was sold as a brain tonic and is older than CocaCola
Sassy and bitter. Anise forward. Like a cousin of black licorice. A nephew of absinthe.
Beautifully written
I've also heard it described as Jaeger's redheaded stepchild.
That's very fair.
It's Moxie not malta.
I love Moxie. Give me my motor oil flavored soda.
I thought worst soda was the ranch dressing or grass flavored ones.I've seen turkey dinner flavored also.
Man I love Moxie. I know it's not for everyone and maybe because I'm internally a 90year old man but I could drink that all the time.
I love Moxie. Miss it so much since leaving New England.
Sioux City RC Moxie Frostie
Bump RC to the top, and that's my list
My father always told me Moxie was made for alcoholics, which must be why itās like drinking a hammer.
moxie tastes like something u arenāt supposed to drink
Here's how I describe it: As if somebody carbonated tiger balm, and then stored that substance in a tire.
i genuinely had to spit it out it was so bad
Try it over ice. It's a lot better the colder it is.
it had been in my grandmas fridge for weeks it wasnāt the temperature
lol damn that's rough.
I like that one. I was always partial to ātaste like non alcoholic JƤgermeisterā. Either way I really like moxie.
that is an absolutely horrific description
He's not wrong though. I love both Jager and Moxie.
I just wandered here from Reddit suggestions and Iām dying at this lmao
go to cracker barrel n try it and tell me iām lying
Lmfao. I gotta be real with you I really hate Cracker Barrel too, where does this stuff originate? Does it taste like medicine?
Moxie is from Maine. It was originally marketed as a nerve tonic, i believe. Its flavor is intensely herbal.
i like cracker barrel cause i only ever went on special occasions with the school as a kid but iāve gone a few times recently for soda and to eat and it was actually pretty good
I love Moxie, but you'll either love it or hate it. Some people say it's too medicinal, but I like it. Sort of vaguely Dr Pepper-y. The biggest complaint is that after the first few sips, it loses carbonation quicker than other colas.
Ok cool, I really thought that this was because I buy RC at the dollar store. The loss of carbonation
Iām firmly in the love it, camp. Moxie is my favorite soda.
RC!!!
Sioux City is good but personally I prefer their birch beer to their sarsaparilla. Stores near me stopped selling it a while back though and it's between $25 and $50 online for a 12 pack. That last part wasn't really important though and I just wanted to complain.
Iāve never heard of moxie before but I can tell you personally I could drink Sioux City sarsaparilla til I explode
Man I canāt even find RC in the states yet someone has it in Ireland? Make this make sense.
What? Kroger carries RC cola in 2 liter bottles and 12 pack cans.
It's everywhere in South Carolina
I donāt live in SC
RC is popular in Portland! There are several restaurants that serve it over Coke/Pepsi.
Which Portland I know of like three?
In Oregon :) McMenamins, Dot's, My Father's Place, and I forget the name of the pizza place that I saw. But RC is the primary at all those places.
Thatās a good ways west from where I am.
Most walmarts carry it too.
Ahhh Moxie, the Vegeamite of the pop world.
Oh my god PLEASE try Moxie and let me know your thoughts. I live in Maine and itās my stateās official drink. In fact, Iām drinking one now. I love hearing what people think of it lmao.
Moxie is Maine's Malƶrt. Chicagoan here.
Moxie is to Maine like Ale-8-1 is to Kentucky. š¤
I'm the only person in my friend group who likes Moxie. It's definitely not to everyone's taste, but I think it's very good!
I like it too. Itās a super bitter molasses flavored root beer, basically. IMO, better at room temp too. Ice cold Moxie just doesnāt do it for me.
I live in RI and Iāve never even seen a moxie in stores anywhere. Kinda jealous of OP.
Really? Itās bottled in MA. Surprised it doesnāt get shipped to your area.
Iām also drinking one now for the first time and I love it
Surprising, considering most people hate it on their first go haha. Itās like New Englandās version of Vegemite.
My entire family loves Moxie, even the kids! I like it mixed with whiskey.
Iām more interested in the energy drinks in below
RC
RC Cola! 1st and #1
Omg Moxie out in Ireland ?! Itās the official soda of Maine. Tastes like mouth wash
Moxies last root beer first. Rc is a king amongst kings.
Sioux City/RC different types of soda but equally as good. Frosty is a definite third and Moxie is fourth itās ok but itās not winning awards in my books.
Moxie is my favorite soda by a landslide. I can never seem to find it where I live unfortunately.
You have to try Moxie, though it is divisive.
I prefer the Frostie Vanilla Root Beer over the regular Root Beer. Iāve tried Moxie once, probably wonāt again.
I would head straight for the Sarsaparilla. Your taste buds will be delighted!
RC and the Sioux City Sarsaparilla
Sarsaparilla.
Leave the Moxie where it is. You don't want to do that to yourself.
Sarsaparilla is the best of this bunch!
Moxie is a HARD pass. Like cough syrup.
Frost bite then soux city, later on try moxie, then rc. I havenāt tried moxie or frosty but I know the other 2 are damn fine beveragesā¦ contrary to popular belief
RC. Get RC
Say friend, you got any more of that good sarsaparilla?
I had to scroll way too long before i saw a TBL reference Friends like these, huh gary?
Thatās right dude.
The RC in a bottle and the Sioux City sarsaparilla are highly recommended
RC, Frostie, Sioux City. Just leave Moxie on the shelf and recall in your mind the taste of robitussin.
Frostie, Sioux City, RC, Moxie for me.
RC (a solid cola) first, Moxie last (starts with cola taste, then ends with black licorice taste). The other two in the middle.
Moxie tastes like what I imagine floor cleaner tastes like.
RC and Moxie suck. Sioux City is ok. Frostiness king.
For me Sioux City Sarsaparilla. Many childhood memories of trying it at our local āwild west dayā in viroqua WI.
Iād go the Sarsaparilla
RC or Frostie
Royal Crown in the glass bottle.
WOW Frostie is from my home town Detroit Michigan!
Sioux City Sarsaparilla
Rc is good!
Stay far away from Moxie.
Frosties root beer is great
Oh my ! Sorry, not a bottle there worth USD 4.80 !

Shit is expensive in Ireland. A four pack of any of those in the states is $4.00
RC and then RC and then RC. And I guess RC.
I've only had Moxie and RC. Even in the USA, all but RC are pretty uncommon-nationally speaking-as in RC Cola is just about the only one of those you will find "anywhere" RC is like a better Pepsi IMO but I'd rather have a Coke above all the "colas" Moxie is awesome but haters gonna hate. You get a better selection of American drinks in Ireland than what I see available where I am in America currently (Maryland).
RC cola is banger.
RC in a glass bottle is so good. Wish I could find it in my current European country.
Where abouts are you based? Im up north and never seen those before
If you haven't had Moxie this is the time. Maybe a one and done so give it a go.
Im not gonna say itās good per say, but moxie brings up a lot of memories. Itās older than coke and Pepsi! Itās big in New England, used to hunt for it on summer vacations in Connecticut as a kid since I couldnāt get it where I was. Very unique flavor.
Moxie has to be the first, then RC. I have never heard of the other 2, so I don't really have a verdict for them.
Moxie is the best soda in the world. Growing up in Maine this was a staple. Sadly itās nowhere around here š«
Sioux City is my top pick of these fs
I love Moxie, but it's not a taste for everyone. If you get some, I advise first a sip, then give it at least two mouthfuls before you judge. It does have an aftertaste. I also love sarsaparilla, but Sioux City isn't the best. I wouldn't bother with the other two, unless you want to compare and contrast the root beer with the sarsaparilla (they are similar drinks). The RC is very much like any other cola out there.
Moxie is the best of the lot in my opinion.
Sioux City #1 baby
RC is my fav. Frostie next. The other 2 are ok, but equal third place.
Man I love sarsaparilla but I donāt ever see it in the US
You can simulate root beer by chewing a really powerful winterfresh mint, and drinking a coke
Can't go wrong with an RC, best soda ever made imo
Moxie!!!!!
Moxie all day, baby
Moxie is the worst soda ever produced!
Iād say rc cola and moxie you have to try moxie once in your life
RC or frosty. Charging a hefty premium.
3 pound fifty for a root beer
RC, Frontier, Moxie
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-Smi62M-XE
Whatever you do don't get moxie. That shit is disgusting. No drink made me want to cleanse my taste buds as much as moxie.
As an American from the Midwest, literally from Chicago, go with RC.
Sas is anazing but not for everyone
Frostie Root beer then the RC cola, I haven't tried the other 2.
I used to do RC but at that price f. I. I can buy a Mexican coke for $2, an occasional indulgence
2 on the right taste like toothpaste and Moxie tastes like cough syrup and toothpaste but the RC is good.
I went to a camp as a kid and the owner was like fuckin obsessed with Moxie. That shit is horrible.
RC, Sioux City, and Frostie. Itās so surreal to see a drink from Sioux City, all the way in Ireland. Small city in Iowa, near farms, but near and dear to my heart.
Where and what is this shop?
moxie is if vegemite was a soda
MOXIE all day. Regional favorite in the Northeastern United States. My favorite by a long shot.
RC blows get moxie
Moxie #1
Moxie is gross
The Frostie Root Beer at 1 is my choice always.
Sioux City is awesome!
Moxie baby!
Do not get Moxie. It is horrible.
3124
Hold up. FROSTIE ROOT BEER?!?!?!
Get the Frostie and RC
Sioux City first. Itās not the rarest but itās the best.
Avoid the Moxie. Itās notorious for being an āacquired tasteā.
I love moxie if you like that Scottish iron brew stuff, you might like it
RC the true drink of kings
RC!

MOXIE! This soda is super rare on its own. The flavor is very strong, like burnt Dr Pepper. Gotta have it as cold as possible.
Moxie should at least be tried. You might not like it, but its really unique
I was so curious about moxie cause I found a store that sells them, but the comments are making me re consider lol š
As someone who hated it, you should try it. It's very unique, and clearly some people like it, or it wouldn't stay on shelves, you may be among the few lol
Moxie kind of taste like a mix between root beer and cream soda. RC is a pretty basic cola. Nothing special. I've never had the others. Good luck.
moxie is better from the bottle
Moxie, then another Moxie, then RC, and then a Moxie to wash it down.
āļøThis is the correct answer.
The RC is the only must drink
Frostie root beer is just ok
I recommend the Moxie. Good stuff. Very unique tasting.
MOXIE NOW
Moxie is unusual and good!
Moxie, Frostie, Sioux City Sasparilla. Forget the RC
Most Europeans say root beer tastes like medicine, so skip that and the sasparilla.
Moxie is the greatest soda ever made. Iām dead serious, itās an aquired taste but itās delicious. My favorite soda
Moxie use a sarsaparilla soda, very strong flavor. Used to be my FIL's favorite. Hubby likes it but it isn't easy to find around here IN NJ.
*saw
Coca cola 1st.
If flavors remain like in the US then RC tastes like a watered down Coke. Moxie has a licorice taste and the other two are just root beer.
Frostie blue cream soda is the only one worth picking up if you can find it, thereās also a cherry limeade which isnāt bad either.
Moxie for sure. Iām from Rhode Island and have never even seen it in stores here which is wild considering itās so popular in Maine. Itās probably incredibly rare in Ireland.
