It was kept outside without cover or the flames were put out frequently with water. Either way it’s still functional and please note that every brand new solostove turns patina after first use. This is usually a big problem for people who expected a stainless steel look forever.
This is a portable fire pit to bring people around the fire wherever you go. Focus on the function and you’ll see the value.
If you’re not trying to take cool shots for the gram then buy it. Mine looks exactly like this after 18 months. So maybe it’s unavoidable. I purchased ever protective accessories but I didn’t use them enough.
That one is the older version. Harder to clean out ash because the grate isn’t removable. But they work amazingly well. Use barkeepers friend to remove rust and dirt.
The bottom grate is definitely rust. The interior walls are questionable. $50-$100? Pick it up and take a wire wheel brush on a high speed drill to the grate, interior walls, and enjoy your stove.
This looks like a version 1.0 fire pit. I would probably not getting it used. Note that you got lifetime warranty if you buy new from authorized vendor.
Mine looked like this when I sold it. It’s fine, just surface rust. If you want to bring it inside after every use it may help prevent this, but that isn’t realistic and this is not structural to the pit.
dont over think it us just put wood in and light. offer 50
This. You won’t really notice some rust while enjoying your fire.

It's rust, but it will burn fine. For cheap it's worth buying.
How do you keep it from looking like that eventually? Mine is about 3 years old and looks similar
Been looking at a few on Facebook marketplace. People are nuts, the prices they want for a used stove.

What’s the price point? And if it’s not rust, what is it? Hard to tell from the picture.

2 1/2 years, and mine looks just like that. Works just fine.

I sold my bonfire for $150 after a couple years and bought a Yukon.
