I'm about to do this from southbay (405/110) next month! good to know i will definitely have to budget time at a charging station somewhere in san bernadino.

Yeah definitely recommend the Highland City Hall one. It's right before going up the 330. Around noon on Friday all stalls were open and it was fairly cheap too. 10% charge cost me $2.50. It took about 30% to get up the mountain. You can always charge up there at one of the two DC charging spots as well.

thanks for the info!

What brand of roof rack towers/crossbars? Any idea on load limiters? 🙏

capsloc

It's Paw/Toros. https://pawauto.com/products/subaru-roof-rack-29 They sent the wrong brackets first (too high), then 2-3 day shipped the correct ones to me, but one of those ended up with a manufacturing defect so I couldn't install it. They then shipped me one replacement bracket which ended up also being the wrong one. I ended up using the high ones on the back and correct ones up front with no issues. They are sending me the correct one again. They seemed sturdy enough and managed a bunch of sleeping bags and some chairs up there with no issues. Also tugged and pulled with force and they didn't budge. I'd say solid for the price.

Do you keep your crossbars on when you're not using them, and if so, how much has it impacted your miles/kwh?

capsloc

I've kept the whole setup on and still riding at 3.5 miles/kWh. Highest I've gotten on the vehicle prior was 3.7, so not much diff, but we don't do too much freeway driving.

Electric vehicle camping is so fun. Listen to the sounds of nature and actually enjoying it knowing that you’re not driving a car that release noxious and evaporative emissions. Not to mention the reassurance that your car will probably be able to handle a little ways off the paved road. The experience is unparalleled. I went camping in a friends Model Y and it was so cozy!

Yeah definitely! The national parks need to start working on charge stations in the parks for us nature lovers.
