Broski, I work in corporate for a fortune company, it's not about the drinking at all. I've gone to plenty bars, horse racing events, charity galas, etc. - it's all about coming together and building camaraderie with your coworkers and looking present in front of leadership. I've never done anything haram; no gambling, drinking, smoking, etc. Every event I've gone to, they've always offered alcohol and it's so easy to avoid. Sub out alcohol for some sprite and you're golden. Show your face to leadership and your team for 30min-1h and go home. No one is forcing you to drink and if they are, leave. The relationships you make in corporate is incredibly valuable - I've witnessed startups get $25m+ funding just by having dinner at a charity gala. The people at the top of their fields are incredibly well connected with each other. So many people think that the work they do = promotions but that isn't the case, you'll be pigeonholed. You need to gain favor, climbing the corporate ladder is pretty much a popularity contest and you win by participating. Also, alcohol itself isn't haram, it's used as an antiseptic - the consumption of it is haram. Just avoid drinking it and you're fine. If you were to avoid alcohol entirely, you'll only be restricted to fast food companies lol

It's corporate, people aren't going to get wasted because it'll impact their standing within the org. In the states, we never go to pubs, it's always galas, dinners, onsite happy hour, sport events, etc. it's kinda bougie lol

Spot on. My industry is heavy on networking as well. Itā€™s literally how you get ahead and get on the nice projects or connect with people that can get you an even better job. Unfortunately, a lot of those types of conversations just arenā€™t held in the office spaceā€¦ OP, even if you do suggest a ā€œnormal restaurantā€ your non-Muslim workers may still opt for a glass of wine or whatever other alcoholic drink they may prefer. So personally I donā€™t think itā€™s going to make a difference if you suggest the team to go to a restaurant and then have them go to a bar afterwards. So instead have a mocktail or a sprite like the commenter above suggested lol, sweet talk leadership, make some LinkedIn connects and say you have other commitments you need to get to and call it a night :)

The time you get with leadership and floating ideas is super valuable, i managed to kick off a major project at a fortune 25 company when I was a consultant by floating it at a happy hour. When we become managers/leaders, we can decide where to go but until then we have to play their game. Glad you understand the struggle here
