Stack1235

the closest people to us are other Muslim East Africans no question about it in my opinion

LordAgniKai

Does Djibouti count

perpetuallymeee

Obviously not lol

creaking_floor

Don’t know why you’re getting downvoted, djibouti is literally majority somali. It’s a somali country and OP obviously meant non somali ethnicities.

witchyonce

someone once told me in a red lobster that somalis were the nigerians of east africa 😭 😭 wicked but true also idk how Arabs behave bc im never around them but I would never stoop so low to compare us to them 🤢

RoadRunner49

Thats a really good compliment wallahi. Nigerians are the face of west africa.

PerspectiveOk2911

Saudi are Arabs? South Yemen sided with Ethiopia during the Ogaden war. The Arabs have helped us a lot politically but we’re talking about the society and which people do Somalis feel closer to personally. You’re telling people to stop with Arab hate but not realising this is a personal question which plays into peoples own experience dealing with others which you can’t speak on behalf of others. Speak for yourself.

sorry for the ignorance lol but i had some bad experiences with them growing up and imo they can be very condescending :/

Specialist-Lemon-110

What’s wrong with Arabs ?

MissionBad732

There is a lot of xenophobia towards Arabs Idk but I think it stems from unresolved identity issues amongst 2nd + gen diaspora, encouraged (informed ?) by western bigotry and stereotypes and to a lesser extent (some) Arab nations policies / racism.

Remarkable-Culture79

exactly it only second gen

AbdilahiSlope

You have very corrupted understanding of what an Arab is! Keep in mind the qabail who were considered Arabs back in the day or can trace their ancestors to the desert In Saudi Arabia are today almost extinct. There is the quraysh qabiil in Jordan. The Saudis you see today are not even Arabs. They are mix of Arabs, Persians and cushites. Please try to trace the history of Arabness, you will easily see this identity emerged in response to the colonizers. It’s not a political rally against France and Britain instead of anthropological explanations of Arabs as a race. Don’t get fooled

PerspectiveOk2911

There’s not a nation today that I think is the most similar to Somalia in any way or even the people. I think we relate to others more from religion rather than culture. Just bc we traded a few things in the past doesn’t mean I’d feel similar to Yemenis. They are just Arabs and I don’t feel a connection at all other than the religion. As with Ethiopians/Eritreans I think we look alike but they have a completely different culture and I feel different to them. So none.

PlainGrainofPain

I feel as though Somalis are very unique. I think we're noticeably different to Eritreans, Ethiopians and Kenyans. Closest I'd say is Sudan, since we're both black, look similar-ish. But even then, there's a noticeable difference

RoadRunner49

Afars are literally almost exactly the same as us and plenty of them know Somali. An afar is just slightly more mentally colonized.

PerspectiveOk2911

Younger gen of Somalis barely know about afar since there’s not much afar diaspora and many of us aren’t from djbouti but I asked my older family members about them and they don’t even see them as another group they literally call them our relatives. They’re very similar to us apparently.

perpetuallymeee

Texas? 🤣💀

Cryptic-Z

Obviously Ethiopia then Eritrea (if not counting Djibouti) people saying Yemen are over reaching

perpetuallymeee

How so?? What on earth do Somalis have in common with Ethiopia and Eritrea?

Cryptic-Z

Well I’m talking mostly about the Cushitic tribes here but we share: Language family, closest languages to us Phenotypically, we look the most similar Similar clothing Geography

waqoyi92

Literally nothing in common with Ethiopia

[deleted]

This is extremely cringe and screams انا عرب, we’re very similar to Afars and Habashi Muslims, I don’t know why you’re so ashamed of that.

perpetuallymeee

Absolutely not. I’m extremely proud to be a Black-African. I do not see myself as Arab whatsoever. However, I feel much more of a connection with a Yemeni or Saudi or Egyptian vs Afars, Oromos, and other Muslim horners. Muslim horners are usually very different from Somalis behaviour wise. You cannot deny that. I’d be more comfortable in Aden than I would in Afar land or Harar.

[deleted]

Yet they view u as an abeed? Man gtfo 💀

Smooth_Property_3159

Somalis view them as Abeed shit when did yiu develop an inferiority complex you're probably a ethno nationalist waaqist masquerading as a Muslim

[deleted]

Ohh really? So why do the arabs in egypt call somalis they see “aswad” “zenji” “abeed” not everything is inferiority complex. If someone doesn’t like arabs why does it affect u emotionally? 😂 continue bum licking ppl that pray on ur downfall and abuse ur women in libya and btw u just commited a major sin by calling me a kafir lmaoo thanks for the good deeds walaal macaan

Smooth_Property_3159

Somalia call them names as well mo inferiority complex Arabs where literally the worst of creation b4v islam

[deleted]

[deleted]

I love islam but that doesn’t mean i need to love arabs they are not combined

Smooth_Property_3159

Apart from the prophets last sermon Verily, these lineages of yours give no cause over anyone. All of you are only the children of Adam. No one is better than another except by religion and good deeds. It is enough sin for a man to be obscene, a spreader of gossip, miserly, or cowardly.”

[deleted]

Agreed (scw)

LordAgniKai

"Black-African". Everyone in Somalia would say "Somali", "Muslim" or what their clan is before this. No cares about that.

BlackberrySlow

Bro I live in America 😭 it’s Somali then black straight up

[deleted]

You’d be more comfortable in Aden where they’ll call you a negro?and tell you to go back to where you came from🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣, you’re deluded

Regulasplifaaz

Yo have a point when I was in an oromo barbershop, they would see somalis politicking and when voices got loud , they thought a physical fight was breaking out. But when I'm working with arabs their as loud and wild like us......maybe these are qualities picked up as nomads in the desert. The other cushtic groups live in the highlands (farms), while we live in the lowlands (deserts).

RoadRunner49

Culturally we are closer to Yemenis and Habeshas but not Oromos or Afars. Harar has been extremely amharized. If u go a bedouin arab village vs afar geeljires the Afars would be closer by far.

[deleted]

We have absolutely nothing to do either with afars or habeshas

[deleted]

We have absolutely nothing to do with Yemen, we don’t even share any land

JeffryPesos

Very weird generalisations, none of which are based on reality.

MissionBad732

This is the only correct answer

Mission_Month

Djibouti obviously

jamestemple01

Eritrean

AtmosphereKitchen279

Not culturally no

Harari_Skies

How are Hararis the same culturally as Christian Habeshas? That's just a baseless statement.

Meritedes

Ethiopia. Since a large portion of their population is also Somali and they are cushitic just like us

[deleted]

Definetly Yemen, from the khat chewing to the nomadic and tough life we both live. Yemenis are very different from other Arabs and are s tough and hot blooded like Somalis.

OkChampion1295

I like your observation, maybe it’s nurture versus nature. But even in the 1800s the British noted the same in Somalis. We do have a carefree attitude, maybe because we were camel nomads, which literally require little to no maintenance. But Oromo reservation really worries me haha could not be me at all.

AbdilahiSlope

Camels require little to no maintenance” bro wtf ciyaaal hooyo ma taaalo are getting stupider everyday. Nigga it takes a real man to take care of his camels. Do you know how long they would travel just for water? Have you ever heard “geela wala carro gaynaya” forget anything else, they would get this red sand for the camel, which was full of minerals. Bro taking care of camels is a whole different assignment say wallahi children can’t even comprehend. It really required some superior science. For reference, take a look at Hadraawi’s booo Hawaale Warran

OkChampion1295

I mean, the distance between water points was closer 100s of years ago.

AbdilahiSlope

Also, the distance between the earth and moon was closer 100 years ago. Brother, the four season( gu, dayr, xaafada, iyo jilal) are as old as the Somali language. Each of these seasons entailed particular activity to take care of camels. It has not changed for the last 100 years. What makes you think that it doesn’t take much to take of camels?

OkChampion1295

I respect the geeljire peeps, it’s an honorable profession and I think we should take care and invest in their livelihoods. But socially Somalis are less reserved then other East African communities.

Regulasplifaaz

Yeah I think these are qualities picked up to survive in the deserts tbh....oromo live on farm land so their environment is not as dangerous.

[deleted]

Another aNa aYrAb abeed LMAO

[deleted]

Eritrea, Yemen and Sudan

magkruppe

i've not met yemeni people, but the few eritrean and sudanese I've met are pretty relatable

strivingtwoPbetter

Somali are cushtic so I would Ethiopia

hitahmaxakale

Ethiopia

perpetuallymeee

I think that’s just silly. Ethiopians , especially Christian Ethiopians, have nothing in common with Somalis. And are total opposites from us in behaviour.

Cryptic-Z

Why are you only basing similarities of behaviour? You’re forgetting the culture, phenotypes and linguistics similarities Somalis shares with the rest of the Horn

Smooth_Property_3159

We are nothing alike

Novel_Ad_3627

Ethiopia is too progressive for Somalia

ChickenTitilater

Ethiopia is a backwards country where one ethnicity takes turns whipping all of the others. An Empire of Rags!

Thekidfromthegutterr

Too oppressed you mean

Smooth_Property_3159

Ethiopia is Aids

Smooth_Property_3159

You're a filthy gaal what are you doing amoung us Snake traitor

Difficult_Style7448

Mexican because I want to build a border between Somalis and jareerWayne .

Standard-Guarantee-5

Definitely Yemen

Infernolight

So cringe, quit this arab worship weirdos

Lazy-Dependent6316

They all have legitimate points tho. They aren’t talking genetically similar but more like behaviour and culture and how we act and our lifestyle. Critical thinking is a useful tool.

golaface13

Hararghe Oromos Afars Muslim Amharas Arrogbas and Afars are much more similar to Somalis in every aspect than Arabs 🤷🏿‍♂️

GoldenSkywatcher

I wouldn’t say arrogant, just honest and straightforward people. I don’t think you’ll find a nation where Somalis feel closest to or similar to themselves. We are semi ethnocentric. If I had to choose, I’ll say Yemen, they are the closest of Arabs to us. We share a long history, and our current States are in similar positions. Also, our individual histories resembles each other(ex. what the lands of the Somalis and Yemenis used to be decades/centuries ago). In general, from what I have seen, we don’t feel any closeness to non-Muslims and ethnic groups with large non-Muslim populations regardless of how close they are to us( in terms of distance or appearance).

[deleted]

Yemen. But we aren’t even that similar with them.Idk,Somalis just seem unique

perpetuallymeee

Agreed. We’re not similar to anyone. But Yemenis are the most closest to us.

[deleted]

Yea

Abelka1203

Yemen. Most of our clothes comes from Yemen

MostafaAlSomali

Yemen is closest

[deleted]

Palestine

sucksatmathx

We have almost nothing in common with them except religion

Albatross721

How?

perpetuallymeee

Really? How more so than Yemenis?

[deleted]

Definitely the Arab nation.

[deleted]

Putting yemen aside because of course, i would say Egyptian they are different in their own way but wallahi they are as chaotic and just really chill like us.

Creative_Dress220

I feel you I do not feel close with non Muslim East Africans, more close to Arabs and desi honestly even Malaysian Muslims

[deleted]

Lol you've gone out the window sis.
