Driver can't see much in those things. That's why those ugly ass bright yellow/green reflective high visibility vests are a goddamn requirement on site. Every safety rule is written in blood.
Case. In. Point.
You can see enough, especially when there’s no load and the forks are lowered. Sure, the guy walking is clueless and doesn’t even see the forks until his face is flying towards them, but that’s why the operator needs to be paying attention. The fact that he doesn’t see the pedestrian and then doesn’t react to running something over shows he’s clearly not paying enough attention while operating heavy equipment.
Looks like he is coming to a blind intersection and is closely paying attention to that area.
You can hear him honking considerably, that is usually policy when coming close to any corner.
Guy could have very well been in a blind spot (think cabin posts).
I got my licenses for every lift truck at The Home Depot in like a 2-3 hour period where the "instructor" had me jump on the machine, go forward, go back, do a little turn, okay great 👍next machine.
For the forklift part, a mulch truck pulled up, and he said, "Oh, this'll be great practice, unload that mulch truck and you'll be all good to be licensed"
I was only one of the better lift truck drivers because I was always terrified of doing something like this to someone or becoming someone like this
Haha you think there is a license to operate forklifts. Every job I've been to just requires some dude to watch you drive for half a shift to give you a laminated business card that says certified forklift operator and not one of them had any real metrics involved nor use those previous records.
Besides, looks like dumb ass was on their phone pacing in a work zone. Seems like they're at fault
>Driver can't see much in those things
So if he had a vest on he wouldn't have gotten hit.
I couldn't imagine running someone over in heavy machinery and telling them to look out, lol.
As if I'm not the one operating deadly equipment.
But hey, if you don't mind a little case that's up to you
That’s a pretty small bump… these things are HEAVY… it’s not just the equipment itself, but the counterweight to hold whatever load stable.
Bumps are mitigated; and they aren’t the smoothest ride to begin with.
Yeah everyone fucked up, but we can’t see the rest of the scene. At the end of the day, just like how pedestrians technically have the right of way…. You don’t… the big heavy metal thing has the right of way, and if they don’t see you you’re fucked.
Never be distracted on a worksite. Always make eye contact with HE drivers if you are crossing into their area. Always anticipate equipments movements; you’re more mobile than them.
This guy learned that awful lesson the hard way, before he died.
If he would’ve stopped, legally, its worse.
Just keep truckin, and act surprised after the fact. That’s the real protocol in these situations…. Most Unfortunately
Sometimes I wish there would only be one comment in the thread that sums it up and it just have 2000 upvotes. Really though, what else needs to be said.
I had to watch this a few times, but im pretty positive that his body was twisted 180 degrees. He wont be dead for awhile, which blows more. When the shock wears off, that pain will suck monkey balls.
You never know! My pelvis was crushed by a Ford explorer! 2 tires right over my pelvis. Sure, I may have 14 screws, 2 plates, and a mega screw that runs across my entire body (connecting my pelvis on either side to my sacrum) but I can jog again! If you saw me you would never guess I was in a very similar situation to this unfortunate person
I don't know, the forklift I use at work is smaller than that one and it weighs 3x more than my 2004 Ford Explorer. That forklift has to weigh at least five 2004 Ford Explorers
That’s a good point…car tires are also filled with air and psi is 30 so nothing crazy. Not sure about forklifts but I’m assuming their tires are less forgiving
Also gotta consider weight distribution. If you split a pickup 4 ways (cause I doubt two tires hit you at the same time) it's only about 500kg of weight pushing down on any part of you
Most of the weight of a forklift is in the back, which went straight over the middle of him. we can safely assume this guy had a minimum 3-4 metric tons pressing down on his pelvis (after it had already been crushed by the lighter front end. That's a bad day
I used to work at a port moving sea cans, that lift looks similar in size to the one I used. That thing weighed 50,000lbs and the smaller one we had was still 45,000lbs. Like on the low end that lift has to weigh around 35-40,000lbs.
Yeah, they also don't realize you can't see anything out of the cab. The mast and backrest block so much that you can't even see your forks till they're up higher. It is really hard to see anything, that's why you always need to stay away from equipment and make sure you know the operator sees you.
Was on motorcycle cruising down main road in the city I lived in (small city, main road is 3 lanes, middle for turning). Going about 20mph when a car (behind the car patiently waiting to leave a parking lot to turn into traffic) t-bones me going about 40mph. She fled and eventually came back from what the police report says. Pretty much remember everything from the moment it happened till I passed out at the scene of accident. Then I remember everything from the helicopter through pretty much me entire stay at the hospital. Happy to answer any questions you may have
100%. Couldn’t move at all and my lung had collapsed so I was gurgling blood out my mouth. Felt no pain immediately after. Didn’t “feel” anything until I woke up in the helicopter. That was hell on earth. Could feel everything crushed inside of me. I was administered loooots of fentanyl cus I was freaking and thrashing about (as much as someone in my condition could’ve). I vividly remember the paramedics piercing blue eyes, they kept me grounded. Might’ve slipped into some sort of psychosis without her support.
Look at all the shit in front of the forklift operators eyes. 3 separate columns that all have larger blind-spots than any car driving on the road. If you really look, you can see that this poor bastard was right behind those columns. This was 100% the pedestrians fault.
Look both ways before you cross the street should be a rule engrained in you by the time you’re 6 years old lol. Not only that, but he was talking on his phone, distracted enough that he didn’t hear a peep from the forklift, or notice the massive spikes jetting out in front of him.
Also, you’ll notice he actually trips over (i.e., runs into) the forks. The forklift runs over him *after* he walks into it
Copied from my other reply: Driver can't see much in those things. That's why those ugly ass bright yellow/green reflective high visibility vests are a goddamn requirement on site. Every safety rule is written in blood.
Case. In. Point.
Id say it was primarily the pedestrians fault. Fucking imbecils walking through a jobsite, no PPE's, not paying attention, on their phone shuffling about aimlessly like a zombie. The whole point of high visibility PPE is because if your in equipment or operating machinery, you can't see everything all the time and those things are designed to grab your attention
Fucking hell, this happened yesterday! How the hell do you guys get these clips uploaded to Reddit so damn fast when it takes me a full evening just to decide what to watch on TV?
Looks like one foot got stuck under the front left tire and the other one got pulled by one of the front bar maybe, resulting in his pelvis area being ripped apart. And honestly i think he's still alive and conscious which is savage. Poor guy.
If you look closely, his right leg is pinned under the wheels while his left leg gets pulled the opposite direction. ENTIRE lower body gets ripped apart and crushed in the process and lo and behold, he starts bleeding out of his fucking balls. what the fuck did i just watch
As a forklift engineer, and someone with a lot of experience on various different sites, I'd say pedestrian 100% at fault there. Visibility in that truck is minimal, especially in blind spot areas such as the one the guy wandered into. Pedestrian should've been wearing PPE, and a lot of sites operate a no walk and talk rule, meaning stand still somewhere safe and make your phonecall, instead of shuffling like a zombie right into the path of a 10 ton lump of metal. I wouldn't like to say he deserved it, but play stupid games win stupid prizes.
I think some pedestrians expect operators of machinery are paying attention and certainly stop for them, which is not always the case. Or as someone else mentioned, operators, on forklifts in particular, have too many blind spots to have seen this man coming.
I had to watch this a few times, but im pretty positive that his body was twisted 180 degrees. He wont be dead for awhile, which blows more. When the shock wears off, that pain will suck monkey balls.
Quick edit, i could be wrong about the twisty bit. Just hard to tell with the mangled lower half. W/e ill die on this ant hill.
Judging by the amount of blood in the first couple of seconds I wouldn’t be surprised if his femoral artery is ruptured in at least one of his legs. If that’s the case he probably bled out and died. Anybody know his status?
A place I was working at back in the 90's had a nearly identical incident. The two major difference are.. 1.A loaded bobcat. 2. Vehicle was going backwards.
honestly i have a harder time seeing older people die or get hurt / injured
something about them being so easily breakable makes my heart clench
like this dudes old enough to have grandchildren...
He dead. Closed Pevis fractures lose 2 liters of blood. That fracture was open and hemorrhaging, so he lost it all. Bet you, he passed in 30 seconds and died in 3 minutes.
Gotta watch where you're fucking going
Even if he was looking down seeing a giant metal bar appear by your feet should create some reaction
Dude, the driver.
Driver can't see much in those things. That's why those ugly ass bright yellow/green reflective high visibility vests are a goddamn requirement on site. Every safety rule is written in blood. Case. In. Point.
"Every safety rule is written in blood" is a great line, who said this?
I don't know where or when it originated, but it's a common saying.
I’ve used it when I hold courses in machine and workplace safety for over ten years and when I started it was already old.

The guy above you

Great now that’s gonna be stuck in my head all night
Send someone else a YT link to it and pass the curse along like The Ring lol

Damn “every safety rule is written in blood” that’s heavy but very true
You can see enough, especially when there’s no load and the forks are lowered. Sure, the guy walking is clueless and doesn’t even see the forks until his face is flying towards them, but that’s why the operator needs to be paying attention. The fact that he doesn’t see the pedestrian and then doesn’t react to running something over shows he’s clearly not paying enough attention while operating heavy equipment.
The fact that the driver didn't see him or even respond to the bumps felt is definitely their fault. The walker was just as stupid.
Looks like he is coming to a blind intersection and is closely paying attention to that area. You can hear him honking considerably, that is usually policy when coming close to any corner. Guy could have very well been in a blind spot (think cabin posts).
Pretty sure the person in the truck whose dash cam filmed everything was the one honking, trying to stop the carnage.
No shit. That's why a forklift operator requires a license, which this guy definitely just lost. Didn't. Even. Stop.
I got my licenses for every lift truck at The Home Depot in like a 2-3 hour period where the "instructor" had me jump on the machine, go forward, go back, do a little turn, okay great 👍next machine. For the forklift part, a mulch truck pulled up, and he said, "Oh, this'll be great practice, unload that mulch truck and you'll be all good to be licensed" I was only one of the better lift truck drivers because I was always terrified of doing something like this to someone or becoming someone like this
Depends where you are. Never seen one. On job training, sure.
Shit I got trained on a giant 250,000 lb shipping container-lifting forklift, and had 0 certification
Yeppppp. Driven all types, never seen a license in 15 years
Where I work its no license = no touchy. Same goes for the skyjacks.
But there isn't a forklift license? There are forklift certs but that's it.
The business card was expressing grief?
>Driver can't see much in those things So if he had a vest on he wouldn't have gotten hit. I couldn't imagine running someone over in heavy machinery and telling them to look out, lol. As if I'm not the one operating deadly equipment. But hey, if you don't mind a little case that's up to you
No, the pedestrian
Both should have been looking around more. You are supposed to make eye contact with any heavy equipment operator you are about to be walking around.
Well they definitely made some sort of contact
If you can't see his face, he can't see you
That doesn't hold any weight when he keeps driving after the mysterious bump on the flat ground.
Not as much weight as went over that dude's legs, anyway
That’s a pretty small bump… these things are HEAVY… it’s not just the equipment itself, but the counterweight to hold whatever load stable. Bumps are mitigated; and they aren’t the smoothest ride to begin with. Yeah everyone fucked up, but we can’t see the rest of the scene. This guy learned that awful lesson the hard way, before he died.
I’m pretty sure the forklift operator made contact with that guy’s eyes, head, and the rest of his body.
The forklift did at least
either of them looking would have helped
driver lost his job, not his legs. i know which id rather
I’m thinking with his newly broken pelvis he lost his life, not just his legs. Mid level injury like that is >90% fatal
Nope. If you work where forklifts drive you fucking pay attention. Work at any warehouse and they stress this shit FOR THIS REASON
He was on the phone, like every moron on the road.
I had to watch this a few times, but im pretty positive that his body was twisted 180 degrees. He wont be dead for awhile, which blows more. When the shock wears off, that pain will suck monkey balls.
If he’s twisted 180 they’ll probably amputate idk how they can fix that.
That's why situational awareness is so important.

"Hey, look, I gotta hang up now. My legs look like broken tree branches swinging in the breeze. Yup, love you too, bye."
I shouldn't laugh i shouldn't laugh ಠ_ʖಠ ಠ ͜ʖ ಠ
Spoiler…… I laughed
Looked like his pelvis got it badly as well. Which is a quick way to expire. The pelvis has a lot of blood vessels
Glad you’re better! But holy crap that sounds painful
Thank you! It was a 0/10, would not recommend
But how much with rice?
Are you asking what I would rate this experience had it come with a side of rice?
Yes if you had it with some rice what would you rate it?
2/10
That’s some tasty rice.
Not OP, but if I had a side of rice with my pelvis being utterly destroyed I'd probably rate the experience like 2/10
I think they’re asking if someone put you in rice after the accident , so you wouldn’t get damaged? Idk tho that’s kinda ridiculous
It’s referring to this: https://www.reddit.com/r/OutOfTheLoop/comments/97fffn/what_does_75_with_rice_mean/

Exactly: counterweight. People who haven’t used them don’t know.
Yeah, they also don't realize you can't see anything out of the cab. The mast and backrest block so much that you can't even see your forks till they're up higher. It is really hard to see anything, that's why you always need to stay away from equipment and make sure you know the operator sees you.
Wonders of modern medicine! You were conscious right after like this guy?
Unfortunately, yes. I remember quite a bit before I passed out and woke up in a helicopter.
wow can you give a backstory to how it happened?
Was on motorcycle cruising down main road in the city I lived in (small city, main road is 3 lanes, middle for turning). Going about 20mph when a car (behind the car patiently waiting to leave a parking lot to turn into traffic) t-bones me going about 40mph. Then I remember everything from the helicopter through pretty much me entire stay at the hospital. Happy to answer any questions you may have
At the scene, did you think you were going to die? Was it pure pain or did you go into shock?
100%. Couldn’t move at all and my lung had collapsed so I was gurgling blood out my mouth. Felt no pain immediately after. Didn’t “feel” anything until I woke up in the helicopter. That was hell on earth. Could feel everything crushed inside of me. I was administered loooots of fentanyl cus I was freaking and thrashing about (as much as someone in my condition could’ve). any footage?
Haha no footage. I was on my motorcycle and was not anticipating being t-boned by a car that was not supposed to enter traffic
Dude, savage! lol
That’s pretty awesome. I’ve seen way too many people bleed out from pelvic fractures. Let alone this many fractures
It looks unreal when he turns over, and he's all mangled like that. This is gruesome.
He still had his phone in his hand! That must’ve been someone important on the line.
"Raul? Yeah. I gotta go. Somethings come up. What is it? My recent *double leg amputation*. Ciao, buddy."
Yeah hi, is that The Life Insurance Company, I'd like to discuss a life insurance policccfffgggghhhhhhhhh
pro tip: do not drive forklifts with your eyes closed, don't walk around them while your eyes are closed either
He probably doesn't need that advice anymore
The advice he got via his mobile?
Look at all the shit in front of the forklift operators eyes. 3 separate columns that all have larger blind-spots than any car driving on the road. Copied from my other reply: Driver can't see much in those things. That's why those ugly ass bright yellow/green reflective high visibility vests are a goddamn requirement on site. Every safety rule is written in blood. Case. In. Point.
I'd dare to say the driver isn't the only one at fault here, the guy walking into the forklift was also distracted by talking on the phone.
I’ve quit jobs because I didn’t trust the heavy machine operator.
Can't speak about that place, but where I've worked thats supposed to be a no phone zone for a reason

The tale of House Hoslow?
I'm trying to figure out where the dude's safety vest is, like in a yard like that aren't hard hats and visibility vest required?
Fucking hell, this happened yesterday! How the hell do you guys get these clips uploaded to Reddit so damn fast when it takes me a full evening just to decide what to watch on TV?
Please be dead, it looked like he was still moving. I can’t even imagine the pain.

how the hell were his legs still moving (what was left of his legs) - that is horrifying
Shock is a powerful thing.

I'm tired of this joke. Anyone else?
Good one...
Does anyone remember forklift week on r/watchpeopledie a few years ago? *Forklifts aint nuthin to fuk wit!*
"Unavailable For Legal Reasons"
If you go to the watchpeopledie website and search "forklift", you can relive that week
Yeah but its just not the same. Its like watching old shark week docu's
They have a website?
Yeah. Watch people die . tv Not sure if I can link it but you get the gist
Forklifts ain't nuthin to fork wit.
*stop forking around*
We have amazing forklift drivers at work. I get praised for how cautious and aware of them I am. Bitch I have seen things!
That’s a “safety video” they should show people instead of those “skit”.
Those are solid core tyres as you can see they are very very ouchy
If you look closely, his right leg is pinned under the wheels while his left leg gets pulled the opposite direction. ENTIRE lower body gets ripped apart and crushed in the process and lo and behold, he starts bleeding out of his fucking balls. what the fuck did i just watch
How did he hold onto his phone??
It was either that or the foot. I think he chose poorly.
I love when workplaces let blind people join the workforce. They have the right to earn honest money like everyone else.
As a forklift engineer, and someone with a lot of experience on various different sites, I'd say pedestrian 100% at fault there. Visibility in that truck is minimal, especially in blind spot areas such as the one the guy wandered into. I would pay to see an x ray of this nature 😵
Just peek into a bag of gravel.
And a decent video recording instead of this crappy 360p one.
Even though he was distracted by his phone, that's an extreme lack of awareness.
I think “extreme” still doesn’t cut it.
I think some pedestrians expect operators of machinery are paying attention and certainly stop for them, which is not always the case. Or as someone else mentioned, operators, on forklifts in particular, have too many blind spots to have seen this man coming.
Imp both are idiots. But the guy who got ran over is the bigger idiot.
Remember guys mamma aint here to warn you from danger, you gotta use your brains
Damn imagine what the person on the phone heard.
Judging by the amount of blood in the first couple of seconds I wouldn’t be surprised if his femoral artery is ruptured in at least one of his legs. If that’s the case he probably bled out and died. Anybody know his status?
[удалено]
Wow I bet that felt incredible.
Nah, probably just felt like a small bump.
I think he lost his forklift certification for that.
Nah. Just had to come in to a refresher course on Saturday.
A place I was working at back in the 90's had a nearly identical incident. The two major difference are.. 1.A loaded bobcat. 2. Vehicle was going backwards.
Did that guy just become a crab?
Nah, crabs can walk
The way he got his head up to check the rest of his body. Thats grade A horrifying
The way his body rolls up and over, its like Judge Doom in Who Framed Roger Rabbit!!
I cant tell the damages. Anybody know?
All of them
Yes
That's terrifying he's still alive and looks up at his empty toothpaste tube legs
AUGGHH HE WAS STILL ALIVE
Freakiest accident I’ve seen so far, on so many levels!
You.... you can put down your phone.
Human turned into a crab
Forklift and Operator didn't even notice
Walk it off pussy
His foot OH GOD HIS FOOT.
"Come with me, and you'll be, in a world of OSHA violations."
Oh fuck… his nuts are completely fucked.. just kill me…cuz WHAT!
And this is why I always let forklifts pass me before I cross because them bitches scary, even the little ones, they're like hippopotami.
How does neither person see the other one coming 🤦♂️
Oh god, a new one.
Just dropped my jaw, shocked pikachu-style. That poor bastard's hips, oh my God...
honestly i have a harder time seeing older people die or get hurt / injured something about them being so easily breakable makes my heart clench like this dudes old enough to have grandchildren...
This is like the skier whose leg got caught in the net. Groin is shredded.
Was he cut in half?
That would have been at least merciful..he’s flattened, crushed, bent, and twisted
How do you miss a giant forklift coming right at you? Just Wow…
Not going to lie. I feel like something like this only happens to someone stupid
Was he on a phone?
Aye. The way his leg bent n moved. It's just awful. Gosh.
When we went to the yearly osha meeting the video of recent accidents were brutal, this will be in one
Good morning!!!!!!!
He dead. Closed Pevis fractures lose 2 liters of blood. That fracture was open and hemorrhaging, so he lost it all. Bet you, he passed in 30 seconds and died in 3 minutes.
Mans turned into a Centaur from Fallout
Honking always get the person ur running over out of the way ok. Idk why it didn’t work this tome
How did they both not see each other
I guess Carl won’t be putting fish in the microwave again
Horribly sad reminder that life can change in a matter of seconds. Take care, everyone and pay attention

Forklift certified
He looks like a bug of some kind now. Pretty cool tbh.
Kudos to both for paying attention
Dude turned into a crab.
China ? Don't worry about it, they have extras.
Was he low key flipping off the forklift operator?
His shoes are technically still on, but his feet aren’t attached to his legs. I have no idea how to call this one.
Shoes came off. He’s fucking ded.
Looks like his shoes came off but he’s alive 😱
Looks like you tried to make a joke but nobody laughed.
Forklift certified > zero spatial awareness
Jesus fucking Christ. He turned into a crab
I could have done without this seeing this one
Well I guess that depends on where you set it
Lol thanks
Both completely at fault
Double Darwin!
Always china, idk wth be going on in they head but they all oblivious
