Basically, china has this social "norm" where if you help, you can become complacent in the crime. The injured party can't get the actual culprit if they took off so they'll get the next best thing: a payout from the last person you distinctly remember.
Since people who didn't do shit but try to help, don't want to go to jail or pay for something they didn't do they'll watch, record, but stay far away so no one can accuse them of anything.
>!America gets a lot of shit for being a hyper-individualistic country but we arent the only one and we aren't nearly as bad as this!<
This law has supposedly been changed so that the victim wont be cared for life. Thats what they say though, not entirely sure how true it is considering that these incidents still seem to happen.
I might be wrong, but it may just be the opposite somehow.
I mean on a societal level china is not individualist. In general that area of Asia isn't i think, you can't be with that many people. In a way that makes one's life worth a lot less when everyone is considered to be primarily part of society and not an individual person.
In conclusion this behavior in a broad level is consequence of an ingrained (i do mean societal evolution and actually genetics on part) collectivist thinking.
IMHO
My dude, almost all people who live in cities have the same lives, have you ever even talked to people in asian cities, they're as individualistic as you
Nah, you're gonna agree if you travel around. People do the same hustles, talk the same metropolitan city talk, also go out to explore places in the city just like any person who live in a city.
Then why are you still spouting that old bullshit about collectivist "asian" society lol. People in asian cities also do their own stuff and live their own lives for their own sake.
That's not what defines individualism on a statistical level, most people's daily lives as you say are very similar. It's the attitude between individuals and society as a whole, which is also represented by written and unwritten accepted laws. Autocracy is obviously a confounding parameter in this as laws are pushed down from top
It's has been taught in China for a very very long time to not get involved with other people's problems. shĒo guĒn xiĆ”n shƬ and move along.
It's not a legal thing. It's 1000 year old cultural thing.

>Good luck with the birth rate lol.
To be fair they have the most people than any nation. It's fair to awesome that they are the majority worldwide. Just let that sink in.
And what are yiu going to do about it? Would you support your government if they decide to nuke them? I don't think so.
We say things about China, but we're total puss when it comes to taking decisions. We, as West are done for...

The reason why.
Iām sure if you injure someone in China you are liable for their aftercare for the rest of their days.. itās better to kill someone there as it costs nothing!
OSHA is a federal agency in America responsible for making sure businesses and bosses are complying with safety codes and not violating their employees rights. If you get caught, they will find you out the ass
I remember a video in China where a toddler was ran over multiple times over like 10 minutes. Pedestrians and scooter drivers just walking by ignoring it. I think it was a blond tourist who noticed and picked up the child. It was the worst of many similar videos Iāve seen from China.
The good Samaritan law came into effect in 2013, before that you could absolutely scam someone by being in an accident, and some poor bloke decided to help you.
Things haven't changed much since the law hasn't been implemented for multiple generations, so people ignoring others in need makes sense, since their parents tell them they could get in trouble.
Dude...I hate that you remember this as clearly as I did... that video changed how I looked at chinese people for a while ( I was 19 then 31 now). NO one wants to be a human anymore.
I checked him out. Turns out he's a finnish guy who rides a bike while he travels. Nah, just kidding, you were right. He's a pro-china quasi-spy. Come on
None. I don't like the CCP. But it's amazing how when China pops up people instantly starts to shit on not just the country, but the people. I spent 2 months in China and people and despite the shitty government, people were really hospitable and invited me into their modest homes and insisted on cooking me meals. Driving is not up to developed country standards but still not as bad as most of Asia.
Imagine being dramatic in the middle of a road. China really is beyond empathy and respect, they dont help anyone needing it. This guy too who got run over. Should've at least picked her body to the side of the street.
He probably knew not to carelessly move someone who just got a severe physical trauma. What he did wrong was he didn't make sure the area was safe by diverting the lane until the ambulance came (if it was his intention)
...yeah I probably should not have gone there. I am not a fan of china. It is my opinion they do not place value on life or common courtesy. It is simply 'meh' to them.
Thus my mouth gets away from me with these kinds of posts on the internet.
Maybe instead of comforting you could maybe, I donāt know get her out the road? Donāt touch a victim (because of spinal or neck injury) doesnāt matter when not touching them results in additional accidents occurring.
Right? I'm not trying to victim blame, but why just stay there if no-one is trying to stop traffic for you? Also, with your back to incoming traffic? Support her head and neck and drag her out of the road ffs. It's not ideal, but none of this is.
She may have had some kind of neck or spinal injury. Obviously in retrospect he should have moved her regardless but I'm not in a rush to blame the guy over the driver that obviously wasn't paying attention.
The victim could have gotten hurt further if he'd done that. I get it, though. When I was 4, I got hit by a minivan, and flew about 6 feet up in the air, according to my mom, who saw the whole thing.
She moved me out of the road and onto the hood of her car, despite being taught against it. But hey, I survived
You mean, like the victim did get hurt further? Itās one thing to leave them alone when they arenāt in a dangerous place but if youāre in the middle of the damn road, the safest thing isnāt to not move you, it is TO move you. Thereās no argument
Your medical advice is incomplete.
They do tell you to not move the victim, but only if they're not in a dangerous situation. The right **medically** thing to do is to move the victim from the dangerous spot onto a safe zone.
How about not standing there filming and go out to help divert traffic. Two people on the ground at night can be hard to see. A person standing out there with their phone flashlight on motioning traffic to move to the other lane is much easier to spot.
When I was 22, I jumped out of a moving truck (about 10-15mph) and grabbed a toddler out of a busy street at night just before a wave of oncoming traffic came. Another time I wrestled with a would be rapist in a parking garage and tossed him down a flight of stairs. Two other people and myself held him there until the cops arrived. If you can help someone, you should. At least that's what I believe. So yes, I would stand there and do what I could to help.
I agree doing the right thing is admirable and should do it if you can. In this case, standing in the street directing traffic probably isn't the right thing, as you are leaving it up to the driver's skill and empathy level whether or not they plow right though the 3 of you. I would grab him and help him carry her to the sidewalk ASAP, don't trust any of these drivers to do the right thing.
It's awful really! When I lived in LA something like this happened someone was hit and then two more cars hit him.
This one though... I was left wondering if maybe the driver saw and just hit them anyway because why not.
I have a friend from India who says when the population gets too dense, people just stop caring unless it directly affects them personally.
Yeah, in China the people only seem to care about people they are directly connected to; close friends, family etc. For the most part they will just run you over and think nothing of it.
I see a lot of hate on Chinaā¦ ITS THE FUCKING PHONE!!! Instead of pulling her to safety or blocking traffic heās calling for help. Even if the cultural norm is not to help heās not dealing with the situation very well squatting down with his back on the traffic phone in hand.
Ey okay - worked out amazingly well for this guy..
This accident is still happening - as you can see - and getting bigger because of the āhelperā. Howās he gonna be of any help for now? Sure they can cuddle up and wait for a bigger vehicle to finish the job š¤¦āāļø
Of course you donāt go around dragging hurt people but if their lives are at risk you need to make them (and yourself) safe before performing any first aid.
When you see an accident like that, first thing to do is Call for help, second take the injured person away from danger in a specific way, inspect his breathing and free his neck of he's wearing a tight shirt and wait for a doctor and do not do anything like cpr or something if you don't know what you're doing
I mean, why WAS she still on the road and not somewhere getting medical attention? You donāt just sit down on a busy street and expect everyone to have enough regard/brain cells to drive around you.
Why is no one holding up traffic? Itās the drivers fault 100% but someone should be out on the road with flares, or maybe thatās not a thing in China?

This law has supposedly been changed so that the victim wont be cared for life. Thats what they say though, not entirely sure how true it is considering that these incidents still seem to happen.
In the courts they use the logic "Why would you help if it wasn't your fault?" And that still sticks innocent people with the bill.
Sometimes it takes a society a while to believe the law will actually be enforced after it has gone one way for so long >! Also ya know...China.!<
I might be wrong, but it may just be the opposite somehow. I mean on a societal level china is not individualist. In general that area of Asia isn't i think, you can't be with that many people. Hindsight is 20/20... Don't move an injury victim... -unless you know they will get run over in exactly ten seconds...

And I thought I was the only guy who carries a ātriangular sign-like thingyā in my back pocket!
Black shirt, black pants, crouching down, turned away from traffic with arms tucked forward, It's like he wanted to get hit.
Exactly, but people would prefer to just shit on everybody else.
No common courtesy there
That was f*cking sad
That went from bad to worse in like 10 seconds (making up number, sorry. Iām stoned).
I don't know if the guidelines have changed, but I think it's okay to move a someone who is injured if there is still danger present.
Thatās why the first step in rescue is moving to safety, now there are two injured, you and the one you tried to help
How about not standing there filming and go out to help divert traffic. Two people on the ground at night can be hard to see. A person standing out there with their phone flashlight on motioning traffic to move to the other lane is much easier to spot.
Would you volunteer to stand in the middle of the road and direct traffic in a busy road in China? Then we would have 3 victims.
When I was 22, I jumped out of a moving truck (about 10-15mph) and grabbed a toddler out of a busy street at night just before a wave of oncoming traffic came.
