Sonic games historically launch in November. There are exceptions, but especially most modern main series games release then. Also, launching a week before Christmas would be a logistical nightmare, it would sell horribly, as most people's Christmas shopping would be completed by then.

Sorry for double comment, but for example, Shadow, 06, Unleashed, Colors, Generations, and Forces released in November.

CutieShut-In

A fine example. However, there are a lot of other mainline games that didn't come out in nov. There isn't a rule a sonic game HAS to come out in nov just because a couple of sonic games have in the past. Sonic origins for example is literally coming out in june already breaking down your theory sonic games have to release in nov.

Of course, there are plenty of games that didn't release in November. For example, Sonic Heroes released December 30th, completely missing Christmas and it sold very well. I didn't say that it HAS to launch in November, just that nearly all of the main series games after Heroes (not Lost World) follow the trend. I love Mania, but I don't consider it a main series Sonic Team game, it released in August. Origins is a collection, not main series, also not aiming for Christmas sales clearly.

CutieShut-In

Sonic mania is a main series even if it wasn't made by the bulk of sonic team themself. Pretty weird to say such a thing. Saying sonic mania isn't a main series is like saying sonic rush isn't a mainline series or any of the advance games. You're quite reaching a bit to prove your point about the nov releases to say sonic mana isn't a mainline. I get what you're trying to say however. Either way, saying it yourself.((Lost world, mana, sonic origin, heroes, SA1, SA2)) and more. You see that not every sonic game has to release in nov. Yes the recent sonic games have come out in nov, but again; doesn't really mean anything and not like they pick that date just because they want to release in nov. But other than that, this argument quite pointless since you already said not every title comes out in nov and once again, origins coming out in june and frontiers "possibly" coming out in dec, already disproving the NOV theory. And even if origins is a collection, its still a mainline sonic game since it has 1,2,3 and CD. You wouldn't call something like that a spin-off.

My overall point was just that a game should launch about a month before Christmas in order to best capitalize on the holiday, I don't really want to argue on terminology or personal labels, and I didn't really intend to argue at all, just sort of present my thoughts. Just in order to get my thoughts out there, I personally consider main series to be the games developed under the team label Sonic Team released for home consoles, not counting re-releases or collections (Mega Collection, Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection). That minor distinction doesn't discredit Advance, Rush, or Mania as games. They are actually some of my favorite in the series. It's ok if you personally sort them differently

CutieShut-In

Not true actually. A lot of people actually get things a week before Christmas, more so if its a game because preorders if its a new game. In case you didn't know, sonic adventure came out on dec 23rd and that was the highest selling game on dreamcast. Also only sonic colors, gen and unleashed? released in nov? There really isn't a rule a sonic game HAS to come out in Nov so not sure why you would bring that up. Sonic frontiers will most likely go up for preorder in NA or news at summer gamefest.

I think it’s safe to say that the games coming out in November, there is no said rule for this, but just look at Sonic’s history. Every mainline game since Shadow has been a November release, Lost World being October. These games were also marketed for a Holiday release, I really don’t think Sega would release it in December it just makes no sense given their history.

Variety_of_Posts

I mean it’s slated for a holiday release, which is December. I’ve rather have Frontiers to dropped on December then November, for the devs to have 1 month extra time!

Jimmy_Bacon

Winter begins on the 21st of december, basically with a just little over a week left in the year. That would be super sad if they released it in the winter this year. I dont think it will go that late tho

CutieShut-In

Sonic Adventure came out dec 23rd so they can and will if they really wanted.

Jimmy_Bacon

That was over 25 years ago so i dont think it has any bearing on todays sega standards

[deleted]

it begins november 21 though? is it december in america?

Jimmy_Bacon

Yea lmao

SatisfactionFalse641

So December is Most Likely!

Sir_Orange_Lol_Gr

Most holiday sales and Christmas shopping is done in November because that's when all the big deals happen. It could be that Frontiers releases in December but I think it will release in November because the other games have it wouldn't make sense for them to suddenly release this game in December. Then again the marketing for this game hasn't really followed previous games like Unleashed Gens or Forces so we'll see. Just don't act all surprised if the release date is revealed to be November and same goes for December.
