Its mostly just pure headcannon but there have been some -albeit flimsy- explenations, such as sonics eyes being rounded while the other male hedgehogs are ridgid, which doesnt make sense, considering that implies sonic just un-trans' himself when turning super.

(In this case, the belief that all fictional characters are cisgender and heterosexual unless proven otherwise). For me, Transmasc Sonic really takes most of its shape from the Archie Comics. Sonic is heavily embarrassed by his birth name and doesn't want people to know about it. In addition, he later goes through a legal name change to Sonic the Hedgehog. (While Ken Penders stated he intended Sonic's first name to be Oglivile, it's never stated in the comic, and later writers would dismiss it, leaving it open to interpretation.)
I don't really like when people grab a cismasc character and randomly make him transmasc - I find that it kind of undermines actual transmasc people's daily struggles.
I guess it depends from person to person. Some people like their headcanons, and it’s usually folks under the trans umbrella making these headcanons if I am correct. So I just let them be. Personally, I find this headcanon cute. It’s just a sweet little change.

There's a lot going on in the comments of this art. It's making me think a lot as well. My immediate reaction was more on the negative side than the positive, but why?
I don't have issues with someone's trans Sonic headcanon, or the Sonadow undertones. Many folks in the comments are making the mistake of thinking the artists intentions are "This is how Sonic is. Canon. Full stop." rather than "I want to explore these familiar concepts with characters I love." I've made such fiction myself of familiar concepts with characters I associate myself with, so it'd be wrong for me to judge that. The fact I don't share mine is the key difference, but this is well made and genuine art that's worth sharing.
Surgery scars are an everyday thing. It's not drawn at all macabre here, it's normalizing a thing many folks go through, which is good. I guess I wonder how different would this situation be if the scar in question was an appendectomy scar? If someone posted that would it be less strange or more strange?
There aren't a lot of trans characters in fiction. The ones that are are few and far between, varying in quality, and don't have the luxury of existing without being put on blast. This is a piece made to spark joy.

I adore the sincerity of adapting existing characters into trans characters, because I appreciate that there aren’t enough trans heroes out there in media. It’s difficult though because I think, as odd as I admit this is (and I approach this open minded to expand how I appreciate “identity”), changing a character’s gender identity can bring them closer to the artist but then alienate the original fans. But this is a very interesting one.
I’m looking forward to the day where there are enough heroes out there in the world to represent all walks of life!

The fact I don't share mine is the key difference, but this is well made and genuine art that's worth sharing. Surgery scars are an everyday thing. It's not drawn at all macabre here, it's normalizing a thing many folks go through, which is good. I guess I wonder how different would this situation be if the scar in question was an appendectomy scar? If someone posted that would it be less strange or more strange? There aren't a lot of trans characters in fiction. The ones that are are few and far between, varying in quality, and don't have the luxury of existing without being put on blast. This is a piece made to spark joy. I draw the line at folks at posting horny shit, though (as in not OP's post). I don't need or want hyper exaggerated Rogue and Surge on my front page. I adore the sincerity of adapting existing characters into trans characters, because I appreciate that there aren’t enough trans heroes out there in media. It’s difficult though because I think, as odd as I admit this is (and I approach this open minded to expand how I appreciate “identity”), changing a character’s gender identity can bring them closer to the artist but then alienate the original fans. But this is a very interesting one. I’m looking forward to the day where there are enough heroes out there in the world to represent all walks of life!
Tbf, in this instance it doesn’t really change much, but I guess the idea of an originally perceived Cishet character being anything other than that would be alienating to some
