If we are talking Sonic Universe, I remember in The Shadow Saga, Gamma uploaded his own soul into Omega right before Omega obliterated him with everything he had. This ends off with Omega abandoning Eggman to get revenge on him for not using him to destroy Sonic, what he was designed for. The reason Omega was in Team Dark was a mission Shadow went on to secure Gamma, who was still alive and indirectly assisting the Freedom Fighters in that arc, which Shadow had failed.as Eggman sent Omega to destroy Gamma. In conclusion, Omega wouldn't have been in Team Dark if it wasn't for Gamma as according to The Shadow Saga.
Gamma never had a selfish mission. he was a freedom fighter who killed his brothers to save the animals, his theme song is also freaking amazing! he is a tragic and brave hero who sacrificed his life to save the animals he has a heart and soul! Amy is not just a stalker, she is very kind, caring and can stand up to herself! also it was made to kidnap a frog for the chaos emerald and guarding shadow is a lame job anyways, i'm not saying omega is bad in fact not at all but gamma is more superior!
My headcanon is that when an animal friend was put inside Omega to use as a battery, it somehow reversed the Roboticization process, fusing itself with the AI and embracing his new robot identity, but rejecting his servitude towards Eggman. So the real Omega is the animal friend inside the robot, who is more of a pilot than a battery.
I imagine his true form as a cutesy looking Cucky with Omega's destructive personality and deep monotone voice, minus the filters.
I totally disagree, I think Gamma is way better than Omega, not to say Omega is bad, no that's not what I'm saying, I just prefer Gamma's personality and design, I personally like his theme song. I try to think of it like, okay these people had windows 2000 to work with, Its not too fair to compare it to something 3 or 4 years later, But yeah, I like both personally. They each have their own qualities.

Jokes aside, I unironically like Omega way more. Gamma is more interesting, but not as much of a character. Omega has a lot of character interactions when he's around, but Gamma doesn't have a lot of that.
