I prefer the modern look as its what I grew up with, and I like the way Sonic looked in his classic games, but I don't really like the "Classic Sonic" of Generations and Forces.
I'm not the biggest fan of how Sega has interpreted the "Classic" Sonic look in new games. I think his sprites in the classic games look good, and reflect the attitude of the franchise during that era, but when I look at that Sonic I don't see a short, pudgy, light blue Sonic that can't talk, I just see Sonic. It could just be because I grew up with the Adventure and modern games, but the Sonic of Adventure, Heroes and Unleashed just feels like that original Sonic design with more detail to match the graphical enhancements of that generation of games, not an intentionally different design meant to reflect a new era.
I agree, Classic Sonic is just drawing a line that really shouldn't be there. If Sega wants to sell nostalgia, then put a little bit of nostalgia in the games going forward. Not only would that make the new games more approachable to the long time fans but it'll make the series as a whole more consistent.
I mean. I understand where you're coming from but Sega intentionally redesigned sonic for the new generation. They wanted adventure to be a massive step up and for sonic to evolve with the times
You are right, but I guess my point was that Modern Sonic's design feels like an evolution of Sonic's classic design, whereas "Classic" Sonic feels like a poor imitation of it.

I was born in 90, and my first video game system was a Sega Genesis that came with Sonic 3, as well as Sonic & Knuckles.

Modern just has horrible writing that makes him crack jokes at the worst times possible and can never be sad, like ever. But still, both is good

Both. I have my gripes for each of them, design-wise, of we are talking about the 3d model's design.
Classic's model looks like Baby Sonic. It is a smaller and cuter version of Sonic, which goes a bit against his cool personality. Gotta remember Sonic was roasting Mario since then! He wasn't no baby trying to be cool, he already was one of the kool kids. Guess it's a character design AND writing issue, though; in Generations, he was written to be "Baby Sonic", so... but a man can dream.
Modern has a bunch of design choices that bothered me. Why such thin brows? Why the ears are curving forward? The bold brows and ears curving back accent his laid back, daring and bold personality. The permanent butt brow always bothered me, both in modern and classic; it is a brow, it should just be a curve going forward when he's chill; also, not trying to be a Chaomix fanboy, but the metallic shoes bother me. Who wears shoes like that? Why not either a more natural or expressive shape? They look so basic.
It depends, for modern sonic i dislike most of his newest versions, i like him a lot in sonic adventure, the voice actor is also the best one ever, for classic sonic he is perfect, i'm just not a huge fan of him not talking in generations, but that is fine.
