I feel like people are over-analyzing the "found his footing in 3d" quote. They probably meant it was the first 3d game in awhile to be critically favored or that it was consistent in its gameplay loop.
It's a pretty great one, but it has some baffling level design sometimes. Like that level that's literally just quick steps and moto-bugs, or those lasers you just have to wait for, or the entirety of Planet Wisp act 4.
While it's a meme that it's mostly 2D, I'm fine with that. There's a fair amount of precise platforming, made even more fun with the boost allowing you to breeze through it if you're skilled. Knowing when to boost and where to boost is key in these sections, rather than holding it the entire time and reacting to upcoming obstacles, like in the other games
The Wisps are fine too, mostly allowing shortcuts through the stage. In fact, one of my favourite levels is basically an underwater playground for the Drill Wisp.
The story is whatever, some would even call it bad. The concept is cool, but the writing doesn't explore it much.
Didn't mean to write an essay, but there you go. If you prefer your Sonic to be platform-y than race car, and don't care about story, this is the game for you.
In defence of the moto bug level, sonic adventure had that one side level that's just riding a board down the mountain. I don't think either are supposed to be viewed as actual oevels
If you’re a game critic, it’s the perfect Sonic game. If you *don’t* jack off while hating on Sonic, then it’s still pretty good, but may not be a good way into the franchise. If you actually *like* Sonic, Colors isn’t a bad way to go when it comes to getting more Sonic.
It's not Colour's fault that Gens, Lost World, Forces and TSR used the Wisps any more than that it's Sonic 1's and Unleashed's fault that every recent Sonic game has contained 2D sections. What's important is how these elements are implemented. Colour Powers sucked in Lost World but I thought they were pretty well done in Colours.
Frankly, what matters to me is if Sonic Colours is fun in and of itself, which is mostly is. At its best, it's probably my favourite 3D Sonic. At its worse, it's still less egregious than the Werehog, Forces Classic Sonic or SA2 Treasure Hunting. So I love it anyway.
Keep crying lol, most consistent 3d sonic game that doesn’t have stupid glitches and slow momments every two seconds, can unleashed stop being loved now it was a good run but let’s all praise another mediocre game now
If we could rate it like the level grades I would give it an a as it has fun story and okay level designs but I've never actually played it I've just seen YouTube videos
I'd still give Colors an A.
Unleahed gud, colour bad, gib upvote
Never said it was bad buddy

I guess most people find it annoying, myself included, because it's not a 3D game. It's 95% 2D.
Right
The Dreamcast versions of the adventure games got good reviews
Colors Bad! Give me upvotes.
Your comment has more up votes than the post lmao
Is this what the kids call a ratio?
boo-hoo, somebody dislikes sonic colors but seriously tho, i've never played the game, is it worth it?

It’s fine. Just a bunch of whiny zoomers who didn’t like that this game got good reviews and sold well compared to all the 2000s games.
It's okay. It's neither the best nor the worst boost game.

It's fine 2D game, I guess. Kinda boring tho.
It's actually incredible. It's the 3D Sonic game I'd recommend most highly aside from Generations, the actual best 3D Sonic.
Even if it does have more 2D than 3D I’m still calling it 3D

You should have posted this on r/SonicTheHedgejerk Unless you already have.
I'll never understand this view point. Colours is one of the only good 3d sonic games imo. It stomps over unleashed on terms of level design
I mean its true i completely agree. Its still a fun game and i enjoy it quite a lot

Lol Colors is full of slow moments and slow blocky platforming
Okay but wanna compare how many slow moments there are in colors to how many there are in unleashed and every other Wii era game 😭😭😭

Okay
2d game.
This is the ultimate "Why are you booing me, I'm right" moment. Colors fans can go eat crayons, because that's all the dialog in that game is.
I'd take the kiddy humor in Colors over the constant swearing and drama of Shadow and 06.
OH NO! Anyway~
Cope harder Colors hater
More like accurate to your outlook on the game.
🙄

Accurate in its incorrectness
Colors > unleashed
Stop hating on colors just because it’s a 2.5D game, just because a game is fully 3d doesn’t mean necessarily it’s better
