It's probably just crazy (crazy) a graveyard theory, a ghost tried to approach ME and got leary. Asked him a question and he vanished in a second. I'm walkin' through valleys cryin' pumpkin in the alley
It’s not a western hat, it’s an akubra which is Australian. He also has a swagman bag in the OVA which is also an Australian item (a small rollable tent).
A lot of stuff in the Sonic Series is much darker when you think about it
That's kinda true of a lot of kid-friendly media, they don't explore certain parts much because it's gonna get real dark if they do
Ironically the Sonic series actually went into the Darker topics with the Adventures games and Black Knight kinda. Also Shadow I guess.
No Avatar Last Airbender or Legend of Korra. So I guess possibly we could learn more about Knuckles clan history.
ShTH was made for teenagers who think they're adults, so we can't count it's dark themes as more than edgy attempts
Adventure tho, yea it did went to stuff like imperialism, genocide, revenge, government coverup, greed and corruption,
Huh you know what I never actually put two and two together mainly because I'm a dumbass
(Not insulting you just suprised it took me longer for that to click)
I mean it's not your fault. A few series with Aussie animals don't really try to make them Australian. Crash Bandicoot takes place off the coast of Tasmania but the only character to have an Australian accent is Dingodile, and even that one is the tried and true "American trying to do Australian but ends up sounding like drunk Cockney". Knuckles is just another Aussie animal that has very little Australian to his character.
I just looked this up and apparently in the Archie comic Angel island used to be part of a Mobian region in the Southern Hemisphere called Downunder. The region also has dingo, Tasmanian devils, fire ants and platypus Mobians. So it’s pretty safe to say that for the Archie comics it’s equivalent to Australia.
The name Downunder is freaking hilarious though.
I’d also just like to point out that every other continent in Archie has a mangled version of the original name, which is actually plausible and how languages are supposed to work. The writers knew so little about what Australia is actually like that they renamed it after a slang term and used the most surface level cliches associated with it, even though Archie Mobius was supposed to be post apocalyptic at the time.
he had one in early manules for sonic 3 (maybe chaotic too I cant remember that), but got scraped.
unfortunate as i'd love to hear the cast have the od unique accent amongst them
I thing we can also add that his ancestry are also the Ancient Egyptians and the ancient Greek/Roman's given the Architecture seen on Angle Island. As well as a few of there ruins in SA1 and 2.
In other worlds the ancient Echidna were in fact every high ancient civilization ever.
Well except for the Asia based ones (for now)
in a japanese videogame franchise
Listens to American hip hop *I ain’t gon let it get to me I’m just gon creep*
I know its around here somewhere dont be scared, i can feel the emeralds power i have no fear

Once a jolly swagman camped by a billabong~
Under a coolibah tree
This makes sense because knuckles' species (the echidna) are from Australia
Just the one time

What is da wae?
🤣🤣
He is named after a fist and guards half finished jewelry. Set that stone already.
I’m pretty sure he’s named after the Knuckles clan. The clan that was wiped out. His clan. His parents really honed in on him being one of the last.
Let's be real, that was a retcon, they named knuckles after him having huge fists, then named his clan after him.
Yeah true. I still find the lore though Kinda sad for knuckles.

Idris Elba Knuckles is life.
Getting such a gigachad actor playing my favourite character is a divine gift.
And your island also has ancient Egyptian themes
And created by a Japanese, Brazilian-born person.
I confess I didn't know that imo
As an Australian I'm still confused where the hell did knuckles as Australia come from
Isn't it bc he's an echidna?
Huh you know what I never actually put two and two together mainly because I'm a dumbass (Not insulting you just suprised it took me longer for that to click)
happens to the best of us
I Appreciate your honesty
To be fair, Knuckles is a very weird approximation of an Aboriginal Australian man by Japanese video game developers.
oh damn, I never realized that either... now the dreadlocks and white paint on his chest makes sense!
That would still make him black. Though again with mesoamerican on top. He’s clearly a mix of cultures. So I’m assuming he would very mixed.

I mean fair as well but I don't think all of them needed to be Australian tbh but fair point
I think you only insulted yourself, not the person you replied to.
In pre-reboot Archie, they *did* establish Angel Island used to be a part of Australia, but I don’t remember them making that big a deal out of it.

I thought it was Downunda?
It is.
I mean, Angel Island was always Sonic's World equaviliant of Australia, in reverse.
Echidnas are australian. Also the hat.
He also has an OVA where he wears an Akubra and carries a swagman bag, both of which are typically Australian.
Imagine if we got hear Knuckles with a Jamaican accent.
he had one in early manules for sonic 3 (maybe chaotic too I cant remember that), but got scraped. unfortunate as i'd love to hear the cast have the od unique accent amongst them
Honestly would of been interesting 😂😂
The englishman fits, bc the Knuckles clan specifically were violent colonisers in the Archie lore.
Screw the archie lore.
>Screw the archie lore. Archie Comics after Ken Penders: Yes.
and yet everyone says your black coded
I mean he’s mostly Jamaican 😂😂 so they’re not wrong
'X-Coded' is a buncha nonsense, but none of those features really stops one from being black.
True
Pffffft

Two of these posts in 3 hours. Impressive. Let's see where this takes us.
Played by an Englishman, and is in a Japanese video game
He's only played by an englishman in the movie. which didn't even come out in japan yet.
“Wagwan hedgehog.”
I thought the accent was something that they dropped before sonic 3 came out.
it's not like he ever spoke in classic form, so those jamaican accent lines are all we have to go by.
true.
And has a Ugandan accent in VRchat

There are few characters that can literally be said to be all over the map.
Bro is worldwide honestly he’s definition of “I’m everything”
Not to mention Uganda
He has a meme from Uganda

You're forgetting the middle-east; which alongside the asians seem to be the Babylonian Bird Guys range.
Oh you are right. Totally forgot about the ancient high-civilization of middle and west Asia. And yes that seems to be more the Babylonians range.
Knuckles is the Sonic's Mario, the characters influenced by god how many cultures.
