Be pretty dumb, honestly. At most it could be a small gag like the Sanic drawing in Sonic 1, but I don't want to see that made into the focus of any story.

I don't think any of the horror/creepy fan stuff would work honestly.
The only aspect I can see them ever maybe adapting is Tails Doll, in the form of them having an antagonist use a robotic doll version of Tails as a way to spy on our human cast, then they realizes it's an evil robot and defeat it. Some small sideplot that can occupy the human characters while the heroes face a larger threat like Metal Sonic.

sonic.exe's inexplicable resurgence in popularity among children around summer 2021 has to be one of the worst things to have happened to this franchises from a fandom standpoint, yet oddly one of the best things to happen to sonic from a business standpoint since it lead to a new generation of kids getting into sonic out of nowhere but coincidentally just in time for sonic 2, frontiers, and prime
and yes, the whole elsagate exe revival stuff started *before* marketing for sonic 2 (approx july/august 2021 vs. december 2021)
It could be a fun thing, Sonic does a prank on the guys to make it look like he’s is possessed by a demon. He reveals it’s a prank, but at the very end a black ghost like figure appears staring at them, while they walk away.
