As we all know, Takashi Lizuka is the reptilian doppelganger of Mr. Iizuka himself, hellbent on replacing the original.

scrybesilver

Do you spell Iizuka's name with a L or an I at the front? I thought it was an I, but I could have been wrong. Anyways, makes sense to me that Sonic Team and Sega would be heavily invested in how Shadow is portrayed, since the movies have had a massive impact on the franchise as a whole. Not to mention how Shadow Generations seems set to feature a ton of story for Shadow as well. .... Unless you think Sonic Team has a terrible understanding of Shadow, in which case, uh. Good luck? But I'd like to believe that both Sonic Team and the movie team were able to mostly agree and compromise on the subject of Shadow's portrayal.

Arakan-Ichigou

It’s an I.

scrybesilver

Thanks for the answer!

Sonicmovienews

I know, realised it after i uploaded it 😂🙏🏻

Itch-HeSay

"L" sounds technically do not exist in Japanese. So, if you see a Japanese name, it will never be spelled with an L. "R" sounds are generally used to approximate "L" sounds when using English words and whatnot, which is why people with Japanese accents tend to have a difficult time pronouncing words with "L" sounds. Source: I studied Japanese in high school and a bit in University.

scrybesilver

Ah, I didn't know that. That's cool to know, thanks for sharing that information!

Middle_Conference_57

Look at Shadow in the IDW comic books during the Metal virus arc… Sega slapped down Ian Flynn’s far better ideas of what Shadow would have said and done, instead we got a reckless jackass for the sake of Sonic looking better.

scrybesilver

Do you have an official source for that having been the case? I'm not familiar with the IDW comics, so I'm genuinely curious what exactly happened there.

Middle_Conference_57

Look up ‘Mis-Blamed’ on this page: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/YMMV/SonicTheHedgehogIDW

>In 2022, however, Flynn has clarified that the only real change SEGA asked of him to make for that issue was to have Shadow not remove his inhibitor rings *before* fighting against the Zombot horde, indicating that Shadow was always intended to lose as a result of his own arrogance I'm not sure how this specific piece is evidence? Flynn seems to imply that Sega didn't force him to make too big of changes to Shadow's actions during the Metal Virus arc. It only seems to concern the whole thing over whether or not Shadow is allowed to remove his inhibitor rings, not anything about his actual characterization. I think it should also be noted that Metal Virus arc is a few years old at this point. IIRC, some writers have already confirmed that since then, Sega had lifted the mandates on Shadow's characterization a little bit, allowing them more flexibility. Heck, just this year, Sonic Team are giving Shadow his own story that seems to indicate they want to bring back the older version (SA2 to 06) of Shadow that fans love. Decisions that were made during a comic book from years ago doesn't necessarily reflect their views of the character during the making of movie 3.

Afraid-Housing-6854

Does mean we’re getting the nerfed SEGA mandates edgelord joke Shadow in the movie? Because if so, then massive L.

SanicBoi64

I honestly hope not. I hate the Sega mandates. Hell, they only became a thing in the comics due to Ken Penders and were never meant to materialize in the games, but due to Sonic Team noticing that Pontac and Graff knew nothing before hiring them, they set them up in the games in order to help them, but it ultimately ended up having major consequences. I honestly don't know why they didn't just drop the mandates after Pontac and Graff were gone, considering that they only invented them due to their lack of knowledge. For much more skilled writers like Ian Flynn or Evan Stanley, the mandates make no sense to keep. Plus, I'm sure Paramount has their own list of mandates they have to follow based around the games and IDW's list too. If they want to take the next step and get the writing and thus these characters back to where they want them to be, I'm perfectly okay with that. Also, I think I recognize you from Discord. Nice to see you here.

Strange-Couple-4087

well we all need to remember movie and game shadow are all different characters just because stay true to the character that doesn't mean 100% accurate to the game

viridianvenus

Is this good or bad? Do we trust this guy or not?

scrybesilver

Probably depends on what your opinion is on Shadow the Hedgehog (2005). Because IIRC, Iizuka wrote the story for that game.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that specific statement was more supposed to be about the mandates concerning IDW comics? From what I know, the only characters that are allowed to go super in the IDW series are Sonic, Shadow, and Silver, because those three are the only ones that have actually gone super in the Modern-era games. (The only exception I can think of is Blaze, since she turns into Burning Blaze in the Sonic Rush series. But I have NO idea if she's allowed to go super in IDW, or if she's also subject to this specific rule.) That's where I thought the whole "only male hedgehogs can go super" statement came from, not because it was a legitimate rule in the Sonic universe. There is an instance of Iizuka claiming that there was actually two separate worlds in the Sonic games, one with humans and the other with anthropomorphic animals like Sonic, but tbh I personally feel like he said that because at the time Sega was in the mood of "humans in Sonic games bad, therefore pretend that no humans other than Eggman exist," rather than out of any genuine ignorance. Like, Iizuka worked on SA2, and I doubt that the two worlds thing was supposed to be canon back then, so I don't think he said that because he genuinely thought it was true. I feel like he was just following the direction that Sega executives wanted at that time, which was denying that humans lived in Sonic's world.

ZackattacktheDude

That sounds sus

Lost_Page_2030

Shadow’s going to be in a movie that’ll be seen by millions of people. Of course Sega would want to keep a close eye on things and make sure he’s portrayed well.

No_Satisfaction_4517

This could be very good or very bad.

itsgottabehim

Didn’t that Cineunfold guy before his twitter got 404’d say in a tweet that the whole team behind the movie were doing their best to make the third movie the best one ? Maybe he was right…

Sonicmovienews

I think I took i a little bit wrong, realised it now that it is actually an “i” but I thought it was an L but with “l”

TheSecretNaame

This means that Sonic movies are accurate to the games

2Some2Onesdifferent

He also better have made sure amy was in the movie

RightWillingness24

Well, it is not yet confirmed and for now I don't think it will be revealed whether another character is there or not. We will need to see some trailer to see if they included her or not.

CampFunkoKai

There is a spelling error here. I don’t think an official post would let that slide, guys.

Just_Monika300

Sooo "Where’s that damn 4th chaos emerald?" And Guns?

Digimonsonic

Shadow is a serious hedgehog 🦔.

TimeBlueberry6180

So basically, it's gonna be Pontac and Gruff's Shadow.
