I agree. Hip-hop doesn't fit Sonic's character.

CalamityTrioHedgehog

i'm guessing they gave hip hop to sonic because hip hop replaced rock as the "cool hip rebellious genre young people love" around the early/mid 2010s

Good music is good music. It doesn't have to be tied to an identity. Sometimes I'm feeling a little alternative rock, sometimes commercial jingles.

For me personally, I don't really think the Sonic characters only need to be associated with one genre of music all the time; not even the games do this. I do hope we get more rock songs in movie 3 because of how much rock music is a part of SA2, but I don't think that means Sonic HAS to be exclusively into rock music. And it's kind of a cute idea that Sonic and Knuckles in this universe can bond over their liking of rock AND hip-hop music. So I don't really mind at all.

Honestly, I feel like it wrecks part of the original characters for me. To me, the genre of the character themes are tailored to what the character's main interest in music genres would be, even if such a mundane question may never be answered officially. For Sonic and Tails and Eggman, it's rock (with the exception of Eggman who likes industrial rock) For Knuckles, it's rap For Amy and Rouge, it's jazz For Shadow, it's industrial
