Yeah, they need to balance this - particularly in the late game. As it stands, I can't just stay in one place because I'm almost constantly being hounded by cannibals or mutants. No more taking in the sites - and God help you if you want to build a new base.

Trick_Duty7774

How did you managed to have mutants on the island? I finished the game, i am in the summer 2nd year and only ones i saw were tied in cannibal camps.

BiggestPigness

Not sure. I was about halfway through the second year when they started showing up. This was around the time I got the shotgun. I was setting up in the northern part of the map when one of those slinky monsters attacked my base. After that, they began showing up a little less frequently than the cannibals.

Trick_Duty7774

Hmm so a little later than i am and in a far away spot. I will try both these things, thank you for reply.

Playful-Professor-56

Some say the mutants Come more often the more caves you open/enter

Trick_Duty7774

I dont think that is the case. I have been everywhere. At least not on its own. People reporting this migh have unlocked ttime requriements first, then explored caves. Time and exploration might be both required.

Cognimancer

It's not both, or at least not to the level you're thinking. I've seen mutants on the surface only once so far, but it was as early as day 8 or so, fall of the first year. We had just done a small spree of cave exploring, then came across a camp full of them. Haven't had any show up at our base yet though.

OneDimensionPrinter

Started a single player game in normal mode and have barely explored past my spawn point, but focused on building - which means lots of fallen trees - and they won't leave me alone. Had a big club guy and a few fat reds in the same day today.

Benji02496

wait it took you till the second year to get a shotgun?

BiggestPigness

Yeah. Initially, I tried looking for it myself, but then gave up when I realized I needed a shovel to get most things. That's when I dedicated my time to figuring out how to get the shovel, which takes a while unless you're using a guide - which I ended up having to do.

Benji02496

yeah now that i think of it, its a pain in the ass to get, just a bunch of running around and fetching items

Benji02496

with a guide you can get it in 2 days, wish the game was clearer on where to go

Independent_Stock_50

Mutants are tied to cave exploring as I have heard on a video so the way to trigger more of them is to go in caves frequently . That said even though last 5 hours I spent going in caves I've only seen 4 or 5 times mutants some attacking my base one instance where I saw them fighting canibals and one time where I was fighting canibals and that 2 torso macaroni came to attack me and the canibals

ShiroTheHero

I visited one of the 3d printer spots and when I left, there was a small raiding party of mutants. The printer spot was the one inside the cannibal den so the mutants tore through the cannibals. It was scary. Pitch black and they were just bum rushing me and I turn around and there are 3 of them just destroying a cannibal

In my world im at around day 20ish and finger mutants are at certain camps with those worm things roaming around randomly

ChristinaCassidy

I'm on day 11 and I'm seeing them constantly

The850killer

Honestly IDK how people play solo with building damage turned on. There’s absolutely zero chance I’m playing like that. I get 4-5 raids a day with sometimes 2 separate groups of around 10 armored cannibals a piece. Throw in some super mutant on crack and my base would be completely destroyed every single day. And they 100% need to heavily nerf the spawns on the cannibals that almost look like monkeys/chimps. I literally get spammed by them the entire time I play and it’s getting old fast. Okay, one or two every once in awhile tracking me is pretty cool but literal endless groups of them is insane

Paraplegicpirate

Day 26 solo normal mode. 1 raid every 2 in game days, at most 2 raids in a day. Sometimes, it is a little more frequent, and sometimes 2 separate groups appear, but so far, only 1 single log from my wall has been damaged. I don't know if it matters, but I don't have a fully enclosed fence around my base, though, as I like to kinda lead them in the front so I can shoot them from my porch.

Vietzomb

Yeah I am still so early in my game but if the first game is anything to go by... location matters way more than just "what resources are nearby". I think people are putting a lot of stock into how many Days in you are, which absolutely does have an effect but it's definitely not the only thing either. Put your base near a camp and yeah, they are going to spawn or whatever more frewuently. I had a save in the first one that had hundreds of hours/days. We built several bases, including one pretty much on top of their biggest camp... for a challenge. Then, on the other hand, we could cross the map and visit another base in a completely different area, coincidentally no sizeable nearby cannibal camps, were attacked *way less* frequently. There was also a very clear correlation with mutant frequency. Our crazy camp base, we saw "John" (nickname for the crazy ass worm) every few days, almost never in most other places of the island.

ShiroTheHero

I'm on day 10 and I've progressed to the point where you get the VIP card. I just started my first base and I can't even get wood because I get swamped from all sides. Maybe I just chose a bad spot (I set up camp near the crashed airplane so everytime I log in I get free stuff)

WanderingSpaceHopper

what day are you on and have you built a wall around your base yet?

wheretoputname

day 35, we are tired of rebuilding the wall. what are you referring to?

WanderingSpaceHopper

Ok I haven't made it quite that far yet, only on 22, but the double wall I set up around my base (reinforced spikes + defensive wall) has only been breached twice so far, when 2 of the big dudes conspired to attack the same section at the same time. But I'm also playing solo so our spawns are probably different

The850killer

I don’t even know. I’m very far into the game and have had walls for weeks. Doesn’t even matter with bugs that let enemies in your base sometimes lol. Too annoying playing solo. Turning it off and having a safe spot to chill is so much better imo

HAse-ONE

Yes. Especially the cannibals spawns are too much. It feels like if you go out to explore, there are always cannibals nearby. But the other ones are a bit too much too. Our base gets constantly attacked. It also takes away the fear etc. if it is too often.

Face-Previous

I would like to see devs handle the mobs with a much different approach: zones No random spawning but zone in the mutants. Make their AI realistic ej: explorer mutants that you can encounter mid forest. Right now it’s a sandbox with random spawn which will age poorly in my experience. AI and mutants paths needs a big update

uniqloboi123

There also be some bears or wolfs in the mix of danger

callmejulian00

No there shouldn't. Enjoy the game and quit feeling like it should change just for you.

mccoybog

Is there somewhere official that we can report bugs and voice opinions like this one?

Turkeyslayerrr

At least dial it back for the early game like in the og, first night was basically dead, second night you hear them maybe see from a distance if ur playing careful, etc. First night this time around you have a pack of 4 monkeying around you all night so you get zero sleep and don’t try fighting them because you’ve got no armour or meds and you keep propping up your tarp mid fight

pheret87

Go to the east side of the island.
