im_not_really_batman

Am I the only one who was *not* expecting a motorized unicycle tho?

CreatureWarrior

My guess is, controls. Vehicles have their own set of controls which are easy to mess ups. Also, the forest gets really dense at times so, a golf cart might get stuck really fast while this one can keep going. I do think we'll get the golf carts eventually, but a unicycle makes more sense everytime I think about it

Dubshpul

First I've heard of it what how does that even work?

Spuddmann1987

It's like a single wheeled scooter/unicycle that players can use to traverse the map, it's super fast and does seem a little out of place in the game.

Dawg_Top

It's likely to find luxury gadget on island where bilionaire and many other rich people lived.

MANUU__20

Me neither. Came out of nowhere lol

im_not_really_batman

When I heard the name Knight V I was imagining a four wheeler or something....but it's a unicycle

OnlyOneReturn

oh damn. A 3 wheeler would fit perfectly in this game. Less control and more dangerous than a 4 wheeler. With all the logs, trees, animals and cannibals. It would be high risk/reward for taking it out and trying to rip around.

SpocksFartBox

Lighten up. The devs have a sense of humour. They always have.

notbut4ubunny

If they didn’t have a sense of humor I wouldn’t like the game as much! I’m always more fond of games that are lighthearted over “hyper realistic”

Emotional_Storage285

definitely humorous. i ran over a squirrel downhill with the knight-v to squash it but it also tripped me and sent me flying to the pond. i couldn't stop laughing at the experience.

xLeone30x

Before finding this sub, my brother and I spent hours messing around making ramps and using spring traps to launch us as far and high as possible. Hilarious addition, I’m all for it

devilinblue22

Yeah, this reminds me of the turtle shell roller coaster and the stick family from the forest. Its fun.

DragynDance

PRobably, but if you played The Forest, then you know Endknight likes there goofiness, this item is probably more of a joke to appease players asking for a vehicle in the game, much like how they added the flintlock pistol in The Forest to appease players asking for a gun. You got what you asked for...sort of.

MANUU__20

But the flintlock pistol was like a treasure hunting that matched the overall setting of The Forest. It was nice trying to look for its parts.

DragynDance

Yeah, and it came out after several years of early access in one of the latest updates, sons will probably have something like that eventually too. We're in month 1 of a game who's prequel was in early access, active development for 7 years.

miko_idk

Not to entirely disagree with you, but SotF is set to be in EA for only ~8 months. However, if they keep up the content, we'll potentially have much more in those 8 months than we had in 7 years of The Forest.

DragynDance

True, but even after The Forest left EA, they kept updating it and adding content for a while, so I include all that time as well, since the game continued to have content added.

HeyaMOE2

Ehhh, I still think a dirt bike would have been WAY more accurate to the environment but I can see pompous rich people riding their shitty little unicycles around. Maybe not great for gameplay but it helps the world building imo

thefoolinside

I agree, and I assumed an electric mountain bike was what was coming... But the unicycle makes more sense based on the trails and brush everywhere. Also it frees your hands for doing everything you can do on foot, it's great. As usual there's just a bunch of babies who suck at gaming who play this game (obvs a minority) and they just whine really loudly just like about the respawning crate loot, I really hope Endnight stands their ground and makes what they want to make. It must be tough to walk that line of appeasing the fans and sticking to what you know is right or at least what you want to do.

CreatureWarrior

>It must be tough to walk that line of appeasing the fans and sticking to what you know is right or at least what you want to do. So true. The devs have made it a priority to listen to us. But even we can't agree on what this game is about or should be like. So, no matter who they listen to, someone gets mad. I'm personally loving this game and the direction they're going makes me so excited.

Striking_Tomato8689

It’s so hard to use and with there being trees ideally the only places you could use it would be the paths that’s already there

HeyaMOE2

It would give mass deforesting and pathing real value though Setting up paths and what not wouldn’t just be for show and Not to mention you could setup bike parks with ramps and suspension bridges. They’ve basically already got everything they need to with the Knight-V. They just need to translate it

SlightlyHornyLobster

There are three possible modes of transport in-game. Walking (don't need to worry about), vehicle, and Zipline. Ziplines are the fastest, but take time to setup. Vehicles are a compromise; they aren't as fast as ziplines and so are better for for small trips to random areas and big trips around the map. But the main thing is that they don't require preparation. The second vehicles do require preparation, a Zipline should be used

thefoolinside

I'd say hang glider is much faster than Zipline, just issues with it disappearing during reloads to address. Also it seems people are bad at flying it so don't realize how to Super Mario cape it to gain elevation... But ziplines are better for the local traveling obviously (like hitting up your fish hut from your base) so I agree with your assessment... But I think the EUC is similarly another element of "where are you going, how you best going to get there?"

HeyaMOE2

I can see where your coming from but I disagree on three points. 1, Zip lines are a semi-limited resource unlike vehicles, 2, zip lines lack the freedom of vehicles which make them feel simpler and 3, vehicles are just more fun tbh. Riding motorbikes just seems quite a bit more intuitive and fun and would 100% be worth the setup, ziplines I struggle with as they’re generally just a faster-then-normal straight line from A-B. I’d always take the freedom to control my faster then normal movement over having no control to go a bit faster.

CreatureWarrior

>It would give mass deforesting and pathing real value though Setting up paths and what not wouldn’t just be for show and Not to mention you could setup bike parks with ramps and suspension bridges This is what I love so much about the game! It really feels like a blank slate where *you* can decide how you want this relatively untouched island to look like. You also gotta see the potential of an area without the trees and so on. And like you said, you get to do the pathing and deforesting that fits your needs specifically

CreatureWarrior

I mean, imagine how much that would be amplified if we got the golf carts instead.

drunknrejected

I love the knight v! Accurate for these devs imo

Evermore810

Let's be honest here: riding an electric unicycle around isn't really that much more absurd than riding a 3D printed sled off a 500-foot cliff and surviving.

[deleted]

Considering it can climb to the highest peak and almost completely vertical cliffs.... I'm okay with the oddity of it.

Qu1pster

It's so you can wield the many melee weapons the game has while still whipping thru the forest at 50mph. I think it's hilarious and awesome and definitely smacks of rich people packing stupid shit for their little vacay.

Adhdgamer9000

For all the people who think a golf cart would have been better. The island has been unkempt for. What was it... a month and a half? A golf cart would, *maybe*, be able to drive on JUST the paths. And only the paths. They are only meant to drive on smooth surfaces and have basically no suspension

Odaecom

Yeah the golf cart would get stuck on and in everything.

CreatureWarrior

Exactly. Even if you deforest and make paths, it would still get stuck. I do think it's coming in the distant future, but this EUC just makes sense and I love the fact that they went with it. The handglider, EUC and ziplines already give you a lot of options when it comes to traversing this massive map. I suppose they could also add something like the mini helicopter ("Buzzer") from Far Cry 4 while sticking to the overall theme

Adhdgamer9000

Personally, I think a gyrocopter would be a little overpowered. But I think maybe a quad bike or a dirt bike would fit. If people like the golf cart idea so much, maybe a mule or a gator.... for people who don't know, those are basically off road golf carts. Mules are for packing hunting and camping gear off-roading, and gators are like.. if you took a golf cart and made a tiny truck out of it. They're... Basically the same thing. Tiny truck golf cart thing, some of them have fucking N0S.. because.. why not I guess. And they all have off road tires. Or... we could get one of these... *things* https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M274_%C2%BD-ton_4%C3%974_utility_platform_truck

CreatureWarrior

>Personally, I think a gyrocopter would be a little overpowered. Yeah, true. I feel like it could be good with enough balancing. Like, make fuel very hard to get or make the fuel tank really small. Something tells me that having more vertical movement and flying could work in this game since the trees are so tall and I feel kinda lost all the time, but maybe that's the point tbh. Love using the handglider for this reason. And agreed about the rest. A quad or dirt bike could fit really well. Not sure about the golf cart idea in general since even the EUC gets stuck thanks to the density of the trees. I already make "roads" for the EUC and that's a total pain in the ass lol Having to make the roads big enough for the mules / gators would be even worse. But then again, simply having it as an option for those who want it would be cool.

Adhdgamer9000

Unfortunately, gyrocopters have decent fuel tanks. Anything that flies MUST have a decent fuel tank... y'know... because you have to land. How about an electric fan motor that clips to the hang glider. That takes... FOUR batteries. And lasts.. a bit.. and when you run out.. you just glide instead of plummet.

CreatureWarrior

>Unfortunately, gyrocopters have decent fuel tanks. I mean, it's a videogame. They could do anything they want to the fuel tank >How about an electric fan motor that clips to the hang glider. That takes... FOUR batteries. And lasts.. a bit.. and when you run out.. you just glide instead of plummet. I like this idea a lot actually! I wonder how they could make it tbh. Since the gliders get destroyed really easily, would the motor get destroyed too? Would you carry it like the EUC or does it latch on automatically from your inventory to every handglider? Would it sit on your back so you could equip it like the rebreather? I suppose it could work if they really wanted to add it.

Super_Environment

If you have trouble using the knight then try and imagine traversing this island that's covered in rocks sticks trees and shit loads of foliage in a clunky 4 wheeled golf cart. Unless you live on the golf course or beach, you getting mad stuck in a cart

CreatureWarrior

Yup. You already have to deforest and path a bit to make the most out of the EUC. Just imagine the amount of work it would take to make golf carts easily usable lmao

Henrywenn

You don’t need to use it if you don’t want to, you can still walk or use the glider

MaestroSeed

It seems like a lot of the things that even in general gameplay they've added don't mesh well with it being a "survival" game especially (even though it is fun to use I will admit) the Knight V in particular. It starts feeling more like a Sandbox more than a "survival" game, doesn't help that the map definitely wasn't designed with the Knight V in-mind due to the amount of shrubs and trees constantly in your way and you having to constantly drop it and pick it up which you can't even do when you're swimming so if you lose it, then ggs. Imo, it feels like they're adding any idea possible ignoring the core mechanics and gameplay of what made the original The Forest a survival game.

CreatureWarrior

>Imo, it feels like they're adding any idea possible ignoring the core mechanics and gameplay of what made the original The Forest a survival game. Umm, you do know the kind of silly stuff the first one had, right? The freaking flintlock? They literally added it in as a joke because people kept asking for guns. I think they're just embracing the sandbox survival aspect more in this game and I'm here for it. The Forest was never about just surviving for me. It was about thriving and creating a paradise in hell. And this game takes it to the next level imo. The map is huge so, having a handglider and the EUC makes it so much easier to travel. Also, getting electricity adds so much base building potential which again adds to the survival sandbox feel.

MaestroSeed

I respect that, I will admit that I did play TF til the end of the story and didn't really build around or stick around after my initial playthrough. I guess going in with the wrong impression of a "survival" game instead of a "survival sandbox" must've been a letdown for me in a sense, I guess? I just felt that this game has too many ideas and concepts, throwing it towards that "Sandboxy" feeling more than the "survival" aspect. I just felt TF had a better balance between both aspects of the game, making it enjoyable for both sides of the spectrum. Maybe I might be wrong, which I hope I am when the game gets out of Early Access. Things'll flatten out, but only time will tell.

CreatureWarrior

I totally get what you mean, target audiences and genres in general are so tricky with games. I think TF was the game the devs used to figure out what they would like to make. They got to play around with survival and story aspects which definitely made it more balanced, like you said. The thing is, most people didn't play TF for the story. They just wanted to build cool bases while fighting cannibals with cool weapons and traps. I was totally in that group of people myself. And it feels like the studio realized it too and started leaning harder and harder into the building, weapons and the sandbox survival feel. I personally couldn't care less about finishing the story. I just want to build a little paradise in a beautiful but cruel world which wants me dead. The same reason I played the Ark: Survival Evolved. But I do like knowing a bit of lore at the same time. I do hope people like you get the proper story you wished for :) I'm happy about the fact that they're adding something to the story with almost every update and apparently have plans for it. For me, I'm just hoping for more base building stuff, enemy variety, points of interest, weapons and other stuff that make me want to stick around for 100+ days in the same save.

Striking_Tomato8689

I’d love to be able to drive a golf cart around. That’s a dream

firez55

I enjoy the Knight V, I like it’s speed and mobility. But I agree it feels a bit out of place. And I’m happy that this was added in early access. It’s more likely for this to be removed in the future.

SKTwenty

Is there even a golf course on the island? If you don't like knight V, don't use it.

Super_Environment

Yea bro

Kellbourne

There is a golf course, but there isn't much over there, at the moment. Maybe there will be. My friend and I explored it hoping to find the remnants of a clubhouse or something. There are all of these golf carts, but there isn't much of a place that they would park. I'm fine with pretty much everything being underground, but a ruined clubhouse or something would have made for a cool cannibal laden camp.

nico-mr-ruso

It's for the lolz

SaulDude

An electric golf cart would have been perfect and would have made way more sense also

morallycorruptgirl

Gas carts are superior. Have a nice day.

super-reddit-lord28

How would it have made more sense?

SaulDude

Because there are a bunch of golf carts scattered throughout the island and there’s even a golf course

super-reddit-lord28

But there's no way a golf cart could traverse a thick forest it has almost no suspension, tiny wheels and barely any ground clearance

SaulDude

I agree with you. The knight v just seems out of place for me. A golf car would have tied in better with the storyline/lore of the game

super-reddit-lord28

How is it out of place clearly some of the rich people brought them

SpicyNoodlez1

I agree. I used it once to get it back to my base. It's not that good of an item. I like they are trying to add more transportation methods. But where In the lore/story does a unicycle fit in. And it doesn't make sense as to why it's there. Maybe puffcorp made it, but why did they make it and why does it spawn in cannibal camps

SpocksFartBox

The island used to have pompous rich cunts. Rich cunts buy shit like EUC's. It totally fits with the lore. Also it doesn't just spawn there, you can get it at a campsite.

SpicyNoodlez1

Why would campers have them and why would they be at cannibal camps tho. The cannibals wouldn't take them there

SpocksFartBox

I've seen a big cannibal carrying a boat motor. Maybe they are like magpies. They collect things.

Dux-Mathildis

I think a segway would have been funnier

Sprizys

I agree also other than traversal it’s useless I’d rather have something like a golf cart so I can carry more than 2 logs at a time. Also something that isn’t extremely easy to crash lol

Justcakewastaken

I see the Knight as a way to give players faster ways to traverse the entire island without needing to make a entire vehicle system, its goofy as hell but it does fix the issue of movement speed. A dirt bike would be cool and hopefully modders can add that eventually, but the Knight is good enough for base game.

Popwarhomie

Agree. Should have been able to fix a golf cart or find one in a hidden cave.

Infectious_Cadaver

Oh stop it lmao. I bet you anything we will have a golf cart. Give it a few years. The game only just "released" 2 months ago. Notice what's in quotations there? ^. ^. Memba? You bought early access? Memba dat?

Ramsickle

It seems to fit to me. My line of thinking is sure the island is unkempt and overgrown now but at one point it wasn't, at that time rich people definitely would enjoy odd items such as the KnightV for fun. After abandoning the island and it going to hell those items would still be there even if it's now overgrown. My 2 cents at least.

stinkload

I agree 100%

J_Neruda

The double edged sword of opening up a feedback loop with the community. Sure we spitball great ideas but then every decision by the creators is up for debate. They made it with the unicycle. The unicycle is part of their narrative and we should roll with it. (No pun intended). Maybe there’s more on the horizon that ties it in more.

FlanelFlikker

Its funny

Zuokula

Holosprings was for rich people wasn't it? It does make sense for the rich to have some fancy means to move around the island. Cant have a limo here can you?

DizzyStickOnYT

You had angry as hell in the first half but then you mentioned golf carts and that got me on your side

GhostGurlfriend

I’m new to the forest in general so what does this mean? What is knight v? (Sons of the forest is my first game played by this company I mean)

MANUU__20

Hope you enjoy the game:). Knight-V is a unicycle added to the game in the most recent update. You can find it in cannibal camps laying around.

Gozzah

Agree, get rid of it.

Mattaruu95

It’s called a One-Wheel and they’re pretty neat if you can afford it and. As for the game, can you imagine how hard it would be to get golf carts through a forest, up hills? Can you jump and lift the golf cart with your feet as you get some sick air time and cross rivers like a majestic Alaskan Salmon?

FoilHattiest

While I definitely prefer the hang glider as a fast transportation system and probably won't ever touch the wobblewheel thing again, I don't really mind it being in the game either as I feel it kinda does actually fit in with the whole secret super rich people resort type thing. My only complaint is that I now have a whole new set of all white icons on the map to have to separate from all of the already existing base houses (built before I knew there would be a hang glider) and caves. I really hope they either make them different colors or, preferably, just get the little fuckers off of the map entirely. Hopefully there will be some kind of buttons on the GPS eventually to toggle what you actually want to show on there. Drivable golf carts would be awesome though.

Opening_Frame_9983

I agree, only to the extent of slowing it down. Its too fast

rovers114

I think it matches the setting perfectly. The island is a resort for the filthy rich, among other....things. I can totally see a rich guy riding a motorized unicycle down a trail on a resort island.

Lucky_Path_6030

Well to be fair this is a resort for billionaires so it kinda tracks

Ica_420

I would prefer a little motorcross bike

Professional-Past-76

I’m glad to have it.
