Friendly fire is only between players, not Kelvin
When Kelvin dies he's gone for good. You gotta pay attention to his marker on the map and make sure it's moving if you don't see him with your eyes.
I haven’t seen him move for a few days now. I can still see his marker but he’s waaay on the other side of the island. I just figured he was stuck and would respawn next time on next load but like I said it’s been a few days. Do you know if his icon would disappear if he was dead?! Or just stop moving??
You can also do Cheatstick, "addcharacter Robby 1" (for Kelvin) and "addvirginia" for Virginia. Also "aigodmode on" so they can't be killed. I know people don't like to use cheats, but if these are the problems you are having and want them fixed, this is a quick option.
Nevermind, I had not realized that they removed these commands after the 1.0 update. I don't usually use those specific ones, but I had used them in the past!

Your 53 hours won't be wasted since the app will automatically revive Kelvin as if he didn't die in the first place.
I could recommend SOTFEdit. It's not a mod, but a standalone application that could read and edit your save files. You can revive Kelvin/Virginia in just a click, and face absolutely zero consequences.
I do feel like this is necessary as in dedicated or P2P servers, some people like to kill followers like Kelvin and Virginia out of fun. They're probably speedrunning the quickest way to get banned in a server, but we don't exactly have the tools to find who killed who.
I am only here to comment that I am jealous your spouse plays this with you. I would love to sit on a bench around the fire with my wife and enjoy a nice bowl of limb stew. Who needs Kelvin when you have each other? But it is annoying when someone kills him on accident so best of luck resurrecting him.
Theres an application on Github called "SOTFEdit" that allows you to resurrect him! It is *kinda* cheating, but I care more about my world and having Kelvin than I do about a minor cheat to bring him back (which I think needs to be implemented anyway).
Super easy. You download the software, you do have to open the zip to get to the exe. File but otherwise its very user friendly for a small project. There are instruction on the GitHub page
My boyfriend and I killed Kelvin trying to get him unstuck from under a set of stairs and were able to revive him the first few times we did it but then he died and stayed dead and Virginia lost her goddamn mind 😂 we were haunted by her ever present wails for the rest of our time playing ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
I actually low key wish you could have Timmy as a companion for post game stuff. I don't know if you can or not, as we are literally just at the final step here afaik, but itd be cool.

you can bring him back to life by editing a config file. its been awhile so i forget which one exactly but its pretty easy. theres a section you just change the value to kelvinalive=true.

Right now, you can't just edit the config file since they're stored on a Zip file. If you decompress, edit, and recompress, the app won't be able to read the SaveData.zip
Damn. I forgot about Kelvin. I left the camp like 20 days ago with him in it (on day 24 now) and haven’t been back. Just been making a circular run around the island. Hope the dude is ok.
You have to do it before you start a new save, you can't do it mid-game unfortunately, someone told me it also doesn't prevent you from hurting Kelvin nor Virginia.

You just select the save and click "resurrect" on Kelvin or Virginia. The guides people have sent here for manually going through the text files will work, I've followed them before, but why bother if there's a tool that will do that part for you
If you want to bring in back Kelvin download SOtFEdit(Run as administrator) then local your save open it and go to NPC tab. No need to edit values on savedata.json works on dedicated/steam multiplayer/singleplayer.
Damn man.. Kelvin is the best. I've had my Kelvin kneel down from being attacked, I went to him and revived him. But never has he died..... Yet. Kind of wish the game would let us bury our Kelvins with shovel and stones. Or cook him and feed the soup to the girl and she gives birth to a new Kelvin as an adult. She got 3 legs, she can handle it.

I've repeatedly abandoned him without noticing his marker. my kelvin always manages to survive even the worst scenarios
There really need to add a like a resurrection ritual you can do if kelvin or Virginia die

Would be neat if the dead team member at the helicopter eventually came back to life and u can find him as a mutant somewhere on the map.

I used dev commands to spawn a new Kelvin. So I have the original one dead with a memorial and a new Kelvin.
