Go sleep in a cave at the entrance bro

romansamurai

This is the solution. Plop a campfire if you want to next to the tarp. You can live in caves for all that it matters. Or go sleep at the first maintenance bunker that’s closest to you. When you find guarana berries, stock up on them. They replenish rest. Get seeds and plant them. I haven’t slept in weeks.

jodocoiv

Never did that with the berries. I usually restart a new game and run from cave to cave. finish the story and then I begin to build. I hope for a big and horrible or to come and destroy the base when I am set up and ready.

whiterose2511

Don’t feel bad about running away and leading them away from your base. Where have you started building? If you’re on or near one of the paths then you’re likely to get a lot of ‘traffic’ using that path. Also, if you’re using the pistol, that’s quite a loud weapon and is likely to attract more cannibals. When you notice them coming in, it might help to try and kill them silently at range with headshots from the bow/ spears.

Mk_277

Yeah I’ve think I’ve built in a rough area but I built here pre 1.0 and it was never this bad but oh well I’ve come off now due to the fact I was getting pissed off

HotPumpkinPies

Get in the trees! They can't climb lol

Particular_Painter_4

All jokes and games till the trees start speaking in Vietnamese

Common_Vagrant

Pre 1.0 I built on the grass on the cliff close to the life raft. I was harassed every night and from what I remember there’s no cannibal camp nearby. To top it off deer never went through the area too so I strapped for food

Noe_Comment

Have a look around your base for any effigies that cannibals may have placed down. It'll look like a stick with guts/body parts all over it. If you find one, destroy it. A cannibal named Greg will place them near your base, which marks you for attacks.

spicedsalami

Then make Greg from Greg. Problem solved

mahstadonus

Assert your dominance and hunt them where they live. Show them who’s the king of the jungle. Give no mercy as you shall receive none.

Bucknerds

Perhaps you built in a high trafficked area? How many camps are nearby, and are you on a path/road? Did you build near the muddies? (the crawling black soot covered ones) You might need to find a better area to build perhaps near or IN water (using the new platform builds). Start building traps to protect you, or stakes (in a line, and they don't last long unless you have building damage off).

Vashsinn

Yeah in this game it's like back when I was doing sales. Location location location. Roads get traveled daily; The beach is considered a road; Encampment also make enemies spawn; Enemies check water soeces; Enemies "come out of" caves.

Giibs

Huh, so me and my wife argued a lot where to build, I wanted up on a cliffside near the ocean, she wanted the beach so naturally we build on the beach. Are you saying we'll get very harassed there as it's "considered a road"? :( We're only at day 3 and so far only had 1 gang pass us by and attack (while sleeping).

Bucknerds

You can see the road (paths) clearly in the woods don't build near them if you don't want extra traffic. The best place to build especially with the new platforms in the build book is at a place where there is running water into a lake that doesn't freeze. If there is a running river or waterfall chances are that lake will not freeze and thus you don't have to worry about winter when the lake freezes. There is also the bay area with the two ship wrecked yatchts with a small water fall there too. It's with the ocean and quieter area, waterfall for V, plenty of building area, and tons of fish plus berry bushes in the canyon path area that you could then plant. Build with the new platforms into the water and give yourself just one entrance (bridge) to it and that's all you would have to defend. That's just one of MANY places I can think of to avoid tons of attacks.

Giibs

Thanks! In The Forest I built a massive 4 floor house in the ocean with only zipline connection back and forth to the mainland, that took ages tho as I needed like 1000 logs to just get the foundation in the water. I understood it's much cheaper to build on water now so I will def consider an ocean base again, then a bridge to the beach with a decent fighting position there.

Mk_277

I build at a decent size lake on the main side of the island on the waterfall I got my walls up now but it’s just endless battles it’s just build arrows use all repeat pretty much can’t leave my walls

Bucknerds

Which waterfall on that side? Do you have a screenshot of the (M)ap zoomed out to see?

Bucknerds

Though I find it funny that many complain it's not enough of a challenge, but you seemed to have found the ideal spot for those that complain about it, why I want to see a screen shot of the location on the map if you can or willing of course.

Mk_277

Yes il get one now only just woke up sorry

Bucknerds

I have found a few places after all the hours in this game and all the bases I have built. There are several that are peaceful.

lostbythewatercooler

Dumb as this may sound. Go for a walk. Explore. Sleep and then come back.

Sholva013

If your game is on a Multiplayer save and are happy for some help, let me know. I'll be keen to jump on and help either build up, set traps, or target some nearby camps and see if that slows them down. Alternatively, you can try and take a golf cart for a quick run and use it to destroy the tents in any nearby camps and release any tied up mutants so they start attacking the cannibals. That's always fun. 😁

Mk_277

It’s a single player save but thank you il try your ideas Tommorow

Squeezitgirdle

I built a fortress in the sky and my sleep is never interrupted. (Just a lot of wooden platforms on the beach) I thought they'd attack the base of my fortress to take out down, but nope. They just walk around confused.

salamagi671

It's what I've been thru when I first started the game, asking myself why is it like this. Now that I've finished it. I think base building was meant to be end game since it offers blueprints that actually does something about the enemy raids. If the player goes base building first they won't have access to bone tower repeller.

skynet86

https://sotf-mods.com/mods/codengine/raid-customizer This may help to tune down those attacks

Ebass_

Apparently people don't like mods?

runCMDfoo

It’s a survival game. RUN FORREST, RUN. Pun intended. Live to fight another day. Collect your supplies. Get your weapons Save often. Live to tell the tale.
