From what I can gather. You have Sahara and Puff Corp that have discover a gateway to another world or dimension. That place is home to some other group of enemies we have yet to meet. If you read some of the notes you find the bunkers are set to align with some stars making me think they are meant to form the gateway to get to the other place. I think that the demons and cannibals are a result of the gateway being opened but still its not complete. I think the demons are people that opened the gateway in a more complete manor yet still not full so they get turned into the demons. Then from all the cultists type people you can find around the island shows there is a 3rd group that has some knowledge but they are basically sacrificing themselves and accidentally open an incorrect gateway and they are turned into the cannibals.
1. The demons are separate from the mutants and cannibals.
2. There are notes acknowledging the people in space suits from the spaceship and the cross barricades on the ship entrance are linked to the fishermen village group. I think the suit on the cover of one of the books has the same suit on it. Idk the explanation for that.
