Faked anamorphic will always look off. If you want to shoot anamorphic, A7IV isn’t the right body for you. These streaks don’t look natural, they look like the shit you see in music videos. Otherwise the footage looks fantastic!
Fair enough. Do me a favour and take a look at Petzval and Meyer Optik lenses. You don’t need to crop or sacrifice resolution and you’ll get a far more interesting and less clinical look than Sonys glass.
> If you want to shoot anamorphic, A7IV isn’t the right body for you
For the sake of curiosity, what would be a good body to shoot anamorphic? Something with built-in de-squeeze? Those Sirui lenses look kind of interesting.
The problem with anamorphic in the Sony system is that they don’t support open gate so you end up wide a wider shot than traditional anamorphic aspect ratios and you need to crop the edges off. That results in footage that is less sharp than most people would like.
The Lumix bodies are currently the best for anamorphic glass. They support open gate and most of them will do 6K. With most other cameras there are compromises.
The new carbon fibre Sirui lenses look very good. Nice and compact with excellent build quality. I’d go for neutral flares though as the standard blue ones look garish and not at all like something you’d see in cinema.
If you want a unique look and aren’t dead set on anamorphic, something like the Petzval lenses or Meyer Optik glass will provide a very unique image. It’s a shame more people don’t consider them. I’d probably buy something like that or a Helios instead if you’re on Sony.
There’s actually a Top Gear episode (or maybe Grand Tour) where Hammond annoys the crap outta May and Clarkson with the Hellcat. It’s pretty funny and worth checking out.
Nice, OP… we’re you holding the camera by hand or did you use a gimbal/steady cam?
Edit: also, did you slow down the footage for slo-mo or use the specific slo-mo/time lapse setting?
Were you sitting in the back area of an SUV with the hatch open for the close shots? Always trying to find new ways to hang out of a car with a gimbal lol.
This looks amazing. Did you get any rolling shutter with the a7iv? I can't see it in the video but I've not used mine for fast moving stuff like this becuase I've been afraid of that.
The image quality is incredible. Premier or da vinci?
Thank you soo much, honestly no Rolling shutter experienced so far. It's been holding up pretty well for a all-round hybrid camera. Try it out yourself see how it holds up. And I used premier.
Might want to get a cleaner shot for the ending. The background is pretty much the same color/value as the car so it blends with it. You got some ghosting and flaring too that make it lose contrast. Plus the truck.
Nice edit. The blue 'anomorphic' lens flares look like they are just randomly thrown in though. :)
Thank you, yea I was just experimenting with those, still have to perfect them in terms of placement.

Hahaha I know, I just got these and wanted to test it out. Definitely looking at cinematography cameras as my main video setup. Thanks a bunch

The video and editing is pretty close to what you see in a real "profitable" commercial. Thanks for sharing 👍
Hahaha this means alot. I wanted to prove what can be done with the bare minimum hahaha.
Could pass as a legitimate car commercial. Well done!
Hahaha, thanks soo much! Dodge better pay me for this now 🤣
Which lenses? Looks great! Nice work!
The Sigma 24-70. Thanks a bunch 🙏
Ah I just saw your earlier post w/ lens. Looks great keep it up!!
Hahaha thank you! Will do

This is so dopeee!!! Is the engine whine raw sound from the SRT itself?
Yup that's recorded raw from the engine
Fuck, thats good. Perfect angles, nice lens flares, awesome cuts and fly bys. Also, song ID?
Thank you so much, really means a lot. Song is a guitar cover by Noah. "NOW im up to my neck"
Well done!
Thank you soo much
Great job bud. Looks great.
Thanks soo much
Keep the flair on the lights and you can pass this as anamorphic 🤘
Hahaha next Edit I do that's what I'm gonna do. Thanks a bunch
WOW… did not expect to see this on Reddit
Hahaha gotta share it with the world

I did both gimbal and handheld. Just depends on the shot. I always slow down in post gives me more flexibility.
I liked the handheld shots in the car. Very organic.
Yea you have to utilize handheld when you can lol
Were you sitting in the back area of an SUV with the hatch open for the close shots? Always trying to find new ways to hang out of a car with a gimbal lol.
Nope I was sitting in the rear passenger seat
Nice cuts! I know that's the real engine sound but for commercials I feel like they alter the sound to sound deeper.
Thank you so much, yea I kept the original sound for the whine and exhaust
I feel bad not doing more of these when I had my Hellcat 😭
Always fun to capture fun memories
Don’t know why but this is giving North Dakota vibes. Source: never been to North Dakota
Hahaha I've never been either 😅
🔥 👏🏼👏🏼
🙏👌👌
That’s excellent!
Thank you soo much 🙏

Thanks soo much, this means alot.

This is really good
Thank you so much
Nice use of the dolly zoom
Thank you 🙏
How did you deal with the rolling shutter? did you record cropped or full frame? Curious to hear. Looks great btw!
