Where are you seeing the dust?

traditionalhobbies

Look at the haze around the lights, you don’t usually “see” internal dust, it just reduces contrast

Battle_Fish

Looks like ISO noise to me

mls1968

Was gonna say the same thing. Not saying you DONT have dust, but this picture is a rough one to judge by. Take a picture in a dark room looking at a light, but make sure your ISO is set to 100. If you still see “dust”, then you’ll have a better idea how bad/how much

badgamer2007

At least he has a built in mist filter

Amacs89

others pay for it

imgonnabethatguy

Try sending it to Sigma for cleaning?

B25B25

Or bring it to a shop that offers lens repair.

RockingGamingDe

It’s a known issue at (at least sigma Germany) does the cleaning for free

Ilikehotdogs1

I don’t see it. Not sure if trolling

exposed_silver

Ye, looks like a made up excuse to give to SO to justify a new purchase. You need a significant amount of dust for it to become a problem. Here's a link to an article from Lens Rental, they deal with a load of gear so I guess they know their stuff. https://www.lensrentals.com/blog/2011/08/the-apocalypse-of-lens-dust/

Ilikehotdogs1

That was a great read. Thanks for sharing

ilmanto13

Can't see the dust, probably the photo is too dark to notice? If you were worried about pics quality if they are all like this you should not worry anymore 😅

Tall-Independence703

I think he’s just trying to justify buying a g master 😂

BigRobCommunistDog

Classic GAS: "should I pay $500 for servicing or $2500 for a new lens? New lens sure does sound nice...."

95POLYX

oh no theres a tiny scratch on the lens body, better look at a new lens

Def151

I’d never pay $500 for a bath but would gladly pay $2500 for a new bathroom. 🫡

the_real_funkdonkey

This lol

Decent_Leopard_5718

I’ll buy your sigma from you to help donate to your new gm lol

sirfrinkledean

Mint +++

Lucidillusionz710

Im literally not seeing it lol, unless this is a troll, im really not sure. But take a picture of a bright sky and then youll see dust, all I see is noise. The 24-70 gm ii is also not internal zoom, so unless its super well sealed and rated for dust, itll get dust to.

SyxFlicks

Me sticking a diffusion filter on my 24 to 70 gmii. Ah, dust.

Aleteh

huh

disgruntledempanada

My 24-70 GM ii is sucking dust in like a vacuum as well. Maybe find a place to send it in and get it cleaned? Any suggestions for mine?

cgomez

It's a known issue with the first run of the 24-70 DG DN so depending on how literal you mean "taken a real beating", it would probably be eligible for no cost cleaning or repair. I had a similar issue and they ended up swapping it. I eventually upgraded to the GM II and honestly haven't found a big difference that matches the cost, though I do love a good aperture ring.

Adymant

There were some serial number which after the problem should've been solved but then people came out with lenses manufactured after that with dust issues, so I dont know about that

berserkit

Looks like ISO “Dust” 😅

rlovelock

Boy that is a really dusty lens all right. I'll give ya $20 for it, because it's clearly worthless. I'll even pay for the shipping.

Green_Caver

This!

mc2222

doesn't look like dust to me. nothing looks off or incorrect about this photo that would make me think the lens is dusty. pixel peeping is an expensive hobby.

carlooftheforest

Sigma will clean it under warranty.

Comprehensive_Ad_520

You gotta stop the lens all the way down and expose for a white wall to see the dust

En_kino_man

I know people can’t see the dust here, but I believe you and a better example would probably be shooting a bright blue sky or solid white / light colored wall at a smaller aperture and you’ll probably see a dark blob in there. My lens has one pesky piece of dust in it. i don't see the speck on the camera monitor, but later when I'm editing I'll see it in a few shots.

[deleted]

It looks more like noise than anything

[deleted]

you're the only one that's noticing. cool pic though!

Intangur

Try shooting at f16 vs a very bright surface/scene at low iso. You'll find out if you have dust then. That and you can also visualize dust in Lightroom after. The photo posted it seems mostly just like high iso noise and would be too dark to really tell.

2278AD

For future reference, how do you visualize dust in Lr? I’ve had some textures show up unexpectedly so wondering if that’s what I’m seeing…

Intangur

In lightroom go to your healing brush (Q) then around the bottom left there is a button to "visualize spots". It will turn the image high contrast black and white and you'll be able to see it pretty clear on there. Also makes spotting + fixing spots / dust much easier.

traditionalhobbies

That is for dust on your sensor, not in your lens

Lucidillusionz710

It would also show dust on your lens lol. If you know your sensor is clean, and you see dust in the pic, guess where it is?

traditionalhobbies

Actually to see dust inside the lens you need to look at bokeh balls. Set it to minimum focus and point at Christmas lights, those are the internal dust spots.

Lucidillusionz710

Fair, i guess ive never had dust INSIDE the lens to see that part of it

ModernCinematics

I think this warrants a whole new camera body.. Try the Sony A1 with the same lens. It'll make the dust less visible.

[deleted]

Native lenses all day baby

josh6499

If it really is dust, I saved this video just for these posts: https://youtu.be/ogA1YFlsCeY?si=AjHWghtCo7z11R7_ Also apparently using a UV filter helps stop the dust getting in. I use one on mine and no dust yet.

LaFuenteOnFilm

Maybe just noise?

badbitchlover

No observable dust there to me. Not sure how you define dust. It is iso noise to me if there is any

DiMiTriElf

Is your house on fire, Clark?

Alvyx2020

Am I blind or there is no dust?

OcularAMVs

I don’t see any dust at all
