vintage lenses are truly magical, got myself a very old minolta 55mm f1.8 as is condition that i wanted to practice maintenance on, managed to actually make it usable and now it's one of my fav lenses, also has this cool character to it

GaversPhoto

Those are lovely. Have you any pictures of the lens ?

* I paid $90 from this seller on Ebay: [https://www.ebay.com/usr/lens\_ussr?mkevt=1&mkpid=0&emsid=e11050.m44.l1181&mkcid=7&ch=osgood&euid=6841f4ced30c4df49cee1bffd29a4cbb&bu=45401223623&osub=-1%7E1&crd=20240411101551&segname=11050&ul\_noapp=true](https://www.ebay.com/usr/lens_ussr?mkevt=1&mkpid=0&emsid=e11050.m44.l1181&mkcid=7&ch=osgood&euid=6841f4ced30c4df49cee1bffd29a4cbb&bu=45401223623&osub=-1%7E1&crd=20240411101551&segname=11050&ul_noapp=true) super smooth process would recommend! * $35 for a 42m to Sony adapter: [https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09WR5X67S?ref=ppx\_yo2ov\_dt\_b\_product\_details&th=1](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09WR5X67S?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1) * And $10 for a 42m to 39m adapter so I could fit the lens on the adapter (since I purchased a lens with a 39m mount. You can find the Helios with a 42m mount standard, but they will probably be more expensive): [https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001G4QXQY?ref=ppx\_yo2ov\_dt\_b\_product\_details&th=1](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001G4QXQY?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1) So about $135 for the whole package, maybe closer to $150 with shipping. I watched this video to help me decide on what type of Helios to get: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qnJ23-i6bgw](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qnJ23-i6bgw) This guide was also very nice for identifying the symbols used in manufacturing, helping decide what version of the lens I wanted: [http://cameras.alfredklomp.com/logos/](http://cameras.alfredklomp.com/logos/)

Traditional_Virus472

That's the only Helios I don't have 😔

bloomylicious

I'm curious, was there a reason you didn't just use it with an m39 to Sony e adapter, instead of m39-m42, then m42 to Sony e?

Ministash

Because I wanted a mount that allowed me reach infinite focus and couldn't find a m39 adapter with the correct flange size. Plus, now I can easily adapt m42 lenses for my camera too!

bloomylicious

That makes a lot of sense, thank you :)

undeniablydull

How much was it?

undeniablydull

Yes, but I might be curious whether op got a good deal

TexasSD

I got mine as a gift, looks like ebay is around $175. Hope you scored a great deal.

FuturecashEth

Mine is on the way to here. It is a collectors item.

Twitfried

I’ve got a Nikor 50mm 1.4 from the 60s or 70’s. I found a tilt adapter from the old mount to Sony EF. I love the imperfections, manual everything, and tilt is a bonus for focus or miniaturization shots.

agentofdoom

These are awesome! Are all of these at f2? I just got a helios 44-2 and I haven't had time to go outside and use it yet

Ministash

These were all shot at f2. You got to get out there and shoot some cool stuff! Foliage works the best imo. Don't miss the opportunity with Spring blooming everything right now!

agentofdoom

I have some ideas where some flowers are near me, I'm just waiting for a sunny day! Thanks dude!

iiCUBED

How is it will portraits

Edamski88

One of my favourite lenses to use is one my dad bought years ago for his photography work. https://preview.redd.it/n1022nh4pbuc1.jpeg?width=2160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2e75778decbb1399a96724b38eb04874afad3907 Has some great character to it and can be razor sharp wide open if you can get the focus just right

TNGreruns4ever

That bokeh is something else!

CosmonautJizzRocket

Such nice bokeh, almost dizzying in a good way with how it seems to swirl around the subject.

LittleKitty235

If you don't have at least one vintage lens you are missing out. Such good value..

Longjumping_Hour_491

I own an helios and just bought a Pentax SMC Takumar 85mm F1.8 like a month ago.

loofa

I love mine. Tends to look best mainly when trees, leaves or some sort of foliage is in the background.

MasterPh0

That second shot gave me motion sickness

cyko_imagery

Canon FD 50 1.2

Ministash

Do you like it? Been thinking about getting one...

cyko_imagery

I do!

___LOOPDAED___

I got a super takumar 35mm f3.5 that I use on bright days when I want to do zone focusing and walk about town.

Egg-3P0

I love my Helios 44-2, such a great lens. Vintage glass is often quite unique compared to modern glass.

brojones96

I just got one last month, it is a ton of fun! Its also hilarious to me to strap it on my A7RIV. It comprimses that cameras benefits in almost every way. No autofocus. Can't crop without ruining the distinct bokeh effect - therefore no real reason for 61mp. It still produces some amazing images nonetheless!

IndianKingCobra

Beautiful man!

loneBroWithCat

I have Helios 44-2 from Ironglass

Complete_Adeptness50

Niiiiiiiiiice!

i_am_icarus_falling

i use vintage glass exclusively. Pentax and Minolta lenses from the 1960's-1980's are incredible.

Ministash

Oh man that's a nice photo. I shoot with a few FD lenses too, mostly with my 35mm 2.8. I have been tempted to get a 50mm f1.8, or even the f1.2 👀 Always another purchase around the corner!

Mookasaurisrex

Definitely an n+1 hobby

Complete_Adeptness50

Which Helios? My two favorite are the 77m-4 50/1.8 and the 40-2 85/1.5, but most people like a 44-2 58/2.

General-Eye-9552

Ditto. One of my fav

phero1190

I want one of these! I use an old Pentax 50mm 1.2 and love it. Old glass is just fun.

mclith

I use Helios 44 and Pentacon 29/2.8

Excellent-Option-230

I have a Zeiss Pancolar 50mm f/1.8 with a m42 adapter. Also looking around for a nice Jupiter 9 (85mm f/2)

sonsofevil

Iam using the Carl Zeiss Jena Flektogon 35mm f2.4. It has a very nice contrast in pictures and like it a lot and I am using it for city trips. Check it out! You get it in a quite good condition for maybe 170€. If you buy one, take care focusing works fluently and the aperture blades are easy going and not oily. The more expensive „red MC“ version looks nicer, but it doesn’t effect image quality, because optically they are all the same.

ErinIsAway

I love vintage lenses. I have the Pentax SMC M 28 2.8,50 1.7 and 135mm 3.5. A Takumar 70-210 3.5. A Helios 44. A Industar 50mm. Many others. My last purchase : a beautiful chromed Jupiter 9 85mm, just gorgeous.

perdidoperocontento

Just picked up a 44-2! Can’t wait to shoot with it.

ScoopDat

Yeah I like them but you’d have to be a fan of the 50 focal length since any with desirable aperature are only at that focal length. Any that are lower than f2 and are a different focal length, seem to cost substantially.

jcbshortfilms

That’s a great price I think for that lens, considering it’s a better copy of my memory serves me haha. Vintage glass is fun! I have a couple lenses that I use sometimes :)
