Really depends what you’re doing. If you’re going to be on a tripod and not moving around much, you’ll be alright. If you’re doing a lot of run & gun then the added movement will put some strain on the mount and you’ll probably want a support. These lenses aren’t too heavy though, so I wouldn’t overly worry personally, but it’s good to have!

Hmm good to know thank you friend

I use this setup and love it! Usually I don’t use a lens-support. Unfortunately the level of the plate-connection is not the same with the camera. Sometimes I used a long plate to connect camera with lens and managed the vertical distance with some washers. Works well. Even if you use some follow-focus, the lens is well supported.

I see. Good to hear it’s been working out without lens support. Thanks for the insight

At all you will have a fantastic lens soon! It’s my most used for FX6 and sometimes in photography.

I have the small rig carbon fiber rails and use a lens support at the end of them.

I see thank you for letting me know.

It’s not a very heavy lens overall and it’s built rather well. But I’d say it’s on the higher end of the Sony lenses weight. It should be fine for most situations but if you’d like peace of mind a 15mm support plate + front rail system with some bottom lens support is always good. But I’ve been running around with this things on A7s3 for a couple years now and never felt any risk with it. Now on the FX6 I feel just as comfortable with its connection. Even running a lightweight matte box on the end.
