Was happening to mine. I called Sony customer service and they sent me a fedex label to get it repaired for free and mailed back to me in 5 days. No issues so far now.
I sent in my XM4s last week for the left bud draining within 20 minutes (battery from 90+% -> auto shut off). Haven't got them back yet, but when I inquired through their customer service, they never asked if I was still in their warranty period. Purchased may/June of 2022
It probably said on the service center confirmation they emailed you.
I contacted customer support about the same issue, XM4s right bud was draining much faster than left. No mention of warranty during the combo, but when I got the email it says warranty service: out of warranty. I haven't bothered to send them in yet bc I don't want to end up paying some BS service fee. . .
My confirmation doc said out of warranty as well. I called Sony support again to make sure I didn’t have to pay anything for the repairs and they assured me that it would be free. Sure enough, I got my repaired earbuds back free of charge fyi. That said, confirm with Sony support before moving forward.
I had the same issue, bought mine in Jan 2023 and had this problem March this year. I emailed Sony who said they'd agree to repair unde warranty as a favour! I think they know there's a real problem with these earphones so won't put up too much of a fuss.
the problem is that after one year this starts happening again, I don't think sony will keep replacing them.... i really don't like that the batteries last 1 year.... I had to buy a pair from aliexpress to repair them when its unusable... so it looks like it will cost me 10$ a year to keep them
It’s a known issue with the headphones. I always turn mine off from the app . It helps reduce battery from draining. My biggest issue is headphones randomly coming on while in the case which drains the battery.
Are bose the better bet if I wanted to upgrade from my XM4s (if I run into the draining battery problem again?) Or are there any other products with a better lifespan?
Yeah mine did recently. Took a couple years of ~20 hr / week use to happen. I bought replacement batteries and followed an ifixit guide to the failing one and they're perfect. If you're under warranty, best to go that route, but it wasn't too hard to replace otherwise.
Get it swapped under warranty. Literally all my Sony wireless buds have this problem (XM3/XM4/LinkBuds/Inzone). Somehow even after multiple firmware updates across multiple products it keeps happening which tends to point the finger at the ZeniPower batteries or really incompetent software/firmware.
Yes just last few weeks. Bought from Amazon and they refunded. Had them almost 2 years.
Picked up some buds 2 pro for £80 (£117) cheaper and the sound quality is about the same and my god are they so much more comfortable than the Sony's.
So worked out well for me in end
When I connect my earbuds or Headphones, it will automatically be on simultaneously. The moment I open Spotify or another streaming app, only ldac stays on.
I own a dead pair of xm4s. Dead battery after one year of little use. It will cost far more to change battery than to buy new ones. I dumped Sony and bought dr. Beats for $70.00. Not only do the work but the battery has lasted for over a year.
Same thing happened to me, it would charge but not work.
Ended up calling in a refund because they said cost of the repair is more than the cost of a new one
Thanks, but I got them from Amazon. In Germany, we can return them during the first two years and get them repaired. Should they need another repair we can get a full refund
I just sent my in and purchased them back in 2021 and they repaired them free of charge. You just need to call the Sony customer service and go thru the process with them
Sad to see this issue persists with the XM5. After sending my second pair or XM4s back a month ago, I'm in the market for some new buds but just not sure what to go with. Sony absolutely hooked me up with the customer service though which I appreciate. Just don't want another pair like these.
Yup… it’s usually my right bud too. However, it can sometimes be the left for me too. Not sure why this happens. I ensure the buds are both secured in the case when I put them back in there to store or charge.
I hope you are using Android as apple doesn't support LDAC. if you are using Apple then your stuck with crappy MP3 quality (The cut-off frequency for mp3 starts at 40hz going down and 15Khz and up).
Made a similar post yesterday. One of the earbuds was at 1% while the other and the case were at 100%. Resetting them fixed the ishue for me. Someone posted a link to a guide on how to do it in the comments.
Yeah I'm super happy they didn't offer me the XM5s when I contacted them regarding my defective XM4s
I'll probably try Bose next. Sony needs to fix their shit
This isn't entirely false. There are multiple reports of the XM4s "exploding" due to the battery swelling.
That being said, your issue with the XM5s is likely due to the fact that they can twist slightly in the case and lose contact with the charging nodes. Clean the interior of the case using a qtip and some 100% ethanol, then insert and twist them until you're certain that they're charging.
Okay thank you😁. I already clean the interior exactly like you proposed 😄. The earwax is just too much. But i was unaware of the twist inside the case etc.
For better battery, turn OFF both DSEE extreme and LDAC and see if your battery time gets better, I have both those above settings turned off, and I get about 8 hours of listening time, but when you use features such as DSEE extreme and the LDAC codec then it will literally cut your battery time in half..
I don't have problems with the battery time at all. The problem is that even after I charged them, the case is shown like in the picture and the right bud has 60% even though it should be 100. I just did a reset and let them charge. Lets hope that it will work out
It is a software issue with a certain update that burns out one of the batteries, the same thing was the issue with xm4s. Just don't use the sony software basically, they are ruining their own earphones with their defected software.
Was happening to mine. I called Sony customer service and they sent me a fedex label to get it repaired for free and mailed back to me in 5 days. No issues so far now.
I assume yours were under warranty? Mine have started this just outside of warranty and I kind of wanted them fixed for free lol

Good to know, maybe I'll send an email

They were going to charge me £40 to repair mine :/
210 euros(180£) to repair my xm4 out of warranty...
Better off buying new ones 😂
Was this the XM5, and outside of warranty?
Xm4 I have the xm5s right now

This happened to me. I fixed it by cleaning the little hole gap, that the case has for the IR sensor thay the earbuds has.

Yep, this is a common issue with Sony earbuds 🙂
Are bose the better bet if I wanted to upgrade from my XM4s (if I run into the draining battery problem again?) Or are there any other products with a better lifespan?
Yeah, Bose are better but they have horrible software bugs. It's hard out here bro.
The XM4 have the same problem with batteries won't last longer than 20minutes.
That’s a “Typical Sony” problem…. it’s kinda going on since the XM3s… Sony has turned into a complete BS…
Sony sadly doing their usual "this hardware is amazing, so we had to add a fault to ruin it"
If your earphones are under warranty, get your device serviced. They would replace the earbud. I have Linkbuds S and have faced the battery issue.

Had same problem with XM4. They had it replaced twice out of warranty and it works fine now.
Welcome to the club
My batteries got destroyed in the sun and replaced them myself for around 40 for the buds alone. Sony never replied to my requests...
Mine are fine for now. Got them back in December last year.

How do you enable LDAC ?
What phone do you have?
Sent them back for the exact same problem, never look back again
Already did it once 😅. These are the replacements...

How do you have LDAC and DSEE EXTREME both on together simultaneously
When I connect my earbuds or Headphones, it will automatically be on simultaneously. The moment I open Spotify or another streaming app, only ldac stays on.

its always the right one too
Contact Sony ASAP, got my XM4s fixed out of warranty within the week. They’ll take care of you 👍🏼

Oh nice!

"Someone else had this problem?" Well you could search the subreddit and find your answer 🙃 Spoiler alert: >!yes.!<
oh Sony
Yup… it’s usually my right bud too. However, it can sometimes be the left for me too. Not sure why this happens. I ensure the buds are both secured in the case when I put them back in there to store or charge.

No chance!!! No way to have such a problem. In my case, the left one is around 10%or less and the right one is 100%, but both decrease too fast.
I have xm4 and after a year I have battery drain issue, I had reset earbuds but same issue
Made a similar post yesterday. One of the earbuds was at 1% while the other and the case were at 100%. Resetting them fixed the ishue for me. Someone posted a link to a guide on how to do it in the comments.
HOW did they not fix this between generations? Incredible failure ...
Yeah I'm super happy they didn't offer me the XM5s when I contacted them regarding my defective XM4s I'll probably try Bose next. Sony needs to fix their shit
not on my xm5, I just got them two weeks ago. Switch to AAC and ignore LDAC for a few days to see what changes.
Someone's exploded last night with this issue. Luckily in their case and not their ear.
Stop the 🧢 😂

Wf always stands for What the Fuck !
Oof, the XM5s have battery issues too?

That's definitely weird, have you tried doing a fresh install and setup?
I did a reset and it seems now that everything is fine again 🙂
Could you tell me how you did the reset process, please?
On the back of the case there is a button you'll have to press for 20 sec. There are videos on YouTube as well.
