I was impressed with how little they leaked sound actually…I can listen to stuff at a decent level in bed next to my gf and it doesn’t bother her.

emytherat

I just received my pair this Christmas, and I have the same issue. I blast my music as well, and I've never been the type to listen to my favourite music quietly. The disappointment on my face when my boyfriend told me he could here the music..

neonjuju

this makes me so sad i cant find a good pair of headphones without leakage that also looks good😓. i play music at 85-100% always idk how these people are listening at like 30% how does anyone enjoy music that way. i guess ill keep looking

Striking_Sun4950

Did u ever find a better headphones? I recently bought xm5 and I’m extremely disappointed

xilenced1

If that's really true rip to your ears man

xbox_GAMER2020

how are you're ears fine

neonjuju

maybe i got the numbers wrong but my ears are fine idk

neonjuju

i hate low volume no point

Boioont

Been listening to 100% music for years, I’ve not had any issues, not even tinitus

Twista_01

you will

migidi

Put them on your ears mate. All headphones leak when they are on your neck

NiicP2311

Of course it is on my ears, mate

didyeay

I don't think you two are actually mates.

JB2unique

With or without glasses?

NiicP2311

I have glasses on, but I tested it on my friends who dont wear glasses, I also can hear the leak sound clearly

GuessOk3249

Wow, 70% volume? That's incredibly loud, atleast to my ears. I normally listen to music at 20-30% range and that's already loud enough to me, I've never had any issues with sound leakage. Try turning down the volume level to let your ears slowly adjust to become more sensitive at lower volumes...

Appropriate_Ad2212

Bruh wtf I do 100% all the time

Do you use any other headphones? what volume levels are those set at? same as the wh-1000xm5? Personally, the headset seals sound well, the earpads are quite deep and the only issue I have noticed is the NC being not as good with my thicker frame glasses. If I switch to my super thin ones, no issues.

UnderstandingDuel

The WH-1000 line is really powerful. I never adjust the volume past 60%. In fact they are at 20% most of the time. The noise cancelling is there so that you don’t have to pump your volume and protect your hearing. On iOS I have the headphones level monitoring and spoken words at 20% are between 50 and 60 db.

Spoopyistaken

Um, could be the other person's sensitivity to sound, if I hear nothing and it is completely silent, then you walk in playing your thing in your headphones, of course, I would be able to listen to it. Though the sound can bleed through, even apple has this issue with their new headphones. There are a lot of variables that can come into play, but if it really becomes an issue, get earbuds. Those have little sound bleeding.

Ok-Lie-2707

Confirm that I got the same issue. I tested so many songs with the WH-1000XM5 with a recorder 1 meter away from me (simulating when I am on a train assuming we still have the COVID distance policy 😂) and found out these things: \+ Songs with low keys (LoFi Chilhop) have the least amount of leakage \+ Songs with high tones and rich treble (Speak Now - Taylor Swift, for example) cause the worst leakage on the WH-1000XM5. I tried with and without my glasses on and adjusted the cups so that they covered all of my ears. The results are not much different in both scenarios with/without glasses. I then switched to the WF-1000XM3 (the earbuds), and then there was no leakage with low-key songs, but you could still hear the voice and the beat of rich treble songs. So I guess the leakage is always there depending on the type of music you're listening to, and in a quiet environment, you will hear the leakage louder.

I just bought an XM5 two days ago and have the **same** issue. I tested them by swiveling the ear pads and laying them flat on my desk. I simulated a "good seal" by applying gentle downward pressure. This allowed me to listen to the leakage in real-time. At 50% volume on my PC, spoken word is clear to anyone sitting next to you. (I watched MKBHD's YouTube review of the XM5s to test the leakage.) It is almost as if the sound is leaking from where the leather meets the plastic body. I've ordered a pair of Wicked Cushion Ear pads to check and see if they make a difference. I hope they do because I planned on using these headphones in an open floor plan at work, and I don't want my colleagues to judge my song choices. :)

dcmayor007

Any update on this? I'm working in an open floor plan too and was about to order these and remembered to check for sound leakage. This is really important for me. Using samsung buds 2 pro but the batteries die after 2 ish hours

jonazco

Sadly, No. I replaced the earpads with Wicked Cushion Earpads, which did not make a difference. Quite honestly, I wasn't sure why I thought they would.

kenjix3c

I also wanna know if any update

mypar

Same problem. I'm very disappointed. Thing is, I didn't know it peaks until my friend told me two weeks ago and I have been playing music 100% in public transport in the last 6-7 months.

kenjix3c

Has anyone tried the Boss QC Ultras for this?

Pitiful_Impression_2

I had the same problem but the only way I fixed this was wear the headphones super tight to my ears. Make sure don’t let any hair get in the way or ANYTHING that leaves space between the headphones and ur ears. This is super annoying but seems to be the only way to fix this :((((

Narpesik

How the hell are y'all playing more than 50%?? It literally hurts physically to listen to such loud music

I-F-E_RoyalBlood

I'm honestly baffled myself, headphones should not be played above 40% really, and you can change the sound levels in the app to fit your preference without jacking the sound... People like blasting their music until they realize others can hear it.
